Un petit château parfait dans le sud-ouest France

Dear VRBO – We discovered the house in Monsac via a personal connection and, subsequently, thru VRBO. It came highly recommended, but that recommendation hardly prepared us for the heavenly place we found. Breathless, speechless and a little wet in the eyes upon arrival…warm, welcoming and wonderfully comfortable. The property looks beautiful in the photos, and indeed it IS beautiful. From the clearly historic core of the house to the newer additions, the home shows excellent care and is very well maintained. An interior great room with seating and a grand dining table anchors the property – French doors (yeah, French doors in France) open onto a lovely patio with a shady arbor, a wide well-trimmed lawn and a magical view across a giant meadow. One afternoon a pair of red deer came bounding across the yard… The kitchen is small but efficient, well-stocked with more than the basics of cooking equipment – my husband, our chef, prepared some remarkable meals. It doesn’t hurt that many lovely, local markets are very close at hand so outstanding fresh fish and meats, spring vegetables, cheese, charcuterie, breads, not to mention delightful pates and wines from local farms/vineyards are also easily acquired. There’s a market in a nearby village nearly every day. We did not lack for dishes, glassware, flatware or serveware. Plenty of wine glasses ;-). Two bedrooms, two bathrooms – modern and well-appointed. The heaters work well – slightly disappointed that it just didn’t make sense to build a fire in the wood stove/grand fireplace. We combed the region – visited chateaux, castles, wandered thru medieval villages, canoed on the Dordogne, and spent a remarkable day viewing some of the world’s most ancient and spectacular artworks near Les Eyzies. Found lovely, small restaurants – and appreciated the thoughtful and right-on recommendations provided by the owner. The house was a perfect home base, and it was sweet indeed to return every night to peaceful Monsac after a day’s adventures. Nous vous remercions.

French country cottage

The cottage is nicely restored and sits in the middle of farmland. Lots of trees and attractive views. The village of Monsac is charming but absolutely devoid of any kind of services. To us, part of the attraction of French living is getting up in the morning and taking a walk to buy fresh bread, croissants, etc. Here we had to drive quite some kilometres to do this. Likewise, eating out really meant driving at least to Issigeac, some 15-20 minutes away. The Relais de Ancienne Gare in Issigeac is excellent; good food, nice people and good quality/price ratio. We found the cottage very dark inside, necessitating lights on all day. It was also surprisingly cold; we had to put heating on a few time - in lateJune in southern France! We used the downstairs bedroom, which definitely needs a new bed, or at least a new mattress. The upstairs bedroom is poorly lit and we worried about nocturnal visits to the loo in the dark on down unfamiliar stairs. The downstairs WC is so small as to be almost unusable. We used the toilet and shower room in the utility are. The main bathroom is fine. Wifi access is excellent and surprisingly fast. A few small niggles; the switch on the electric kettle gave up after a couple of days, the doors to the terrace could do with a couple of hooks and eyes to hold them open in windy conditions (often), the shower did not drain properly, the shower tap could come off when adjusting the volume (dangerous if set to hottest position when starting to shower). Faults were reported to the caretaker.

We want to come back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Monsac!! It was absolutely beautiful and everything went well. Our only regret was that we weren't able to stay for longer. Hopefully we will be able to go back again in a year or two for a longer visit! > Thank you very much for allowing us the opportunity to share your home!! >

The Epitome of French Country Charm and Comfort

You will be absolutely captivated by this property and find it hard to tear yourself away from the idyllic patio overlooking the fields, especially in the evening with a bottle of wine on the table! The house is very comfortable with all the amenities you need. It was so beautiful, we actually preferred to stay in and cook in the well-equipped kitchen in order to enjoy another perfect, long twilight over the valley! The beds are comfortable and the quiet of the countryside very conducive to relaxation and a good night's sleep! Monsac is a picturesque village, well situated to venture out to explore this fascinating region. A vacation in Dordogne can provide many opportunities for sightseeing, exploration of prehistoric sites, canoeing and hiking, and not to forget, the superb gastronomy! The Sunday market in neighboring Issigeac is one of the highlights of our trip, with the fresh local food among the best I've ever had! We're already planning a return trip next summer. This is my idea of paradise!

A Taste of France

I was lucky enough to spend several days in Monsac which immediately exposed a problem in my holiday planning, not long enough in this house. I even considered cancelling our next stay in Sarlat. This house is a home from the first minute you step inside. So comfortable and peaceful with everything as it should be. Located on the edge of Monsac with the idyllic town a short stroll away but enough space to take in the wonderful countryside. We enjoyed fabulous walks through this countryside and followed this up with excellent food and wine in he nearby towns. The highlight however was returning to our french country home to enjoy its warmth and something I can't explain but even the food we prepared there tasted better. I look forward to spending many more days here in the near future.

I had a fantastic stay in Monsac. I went with a group of 4 adults and we all loved the place. Found some excellent walks through tracks, quiet country roads and even along some grande randonnée paths to the beautiful town of Beaumont which is nearby. Monsac is a very beautiful, peaceful village for those looking to getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. The house was just as nice as the photos. Un trés bon vacance!

Monsac is the best

Classic French farmhouse set in beautiful farmland. The village of Monsac seems to be caught at a moment in time and just adds to the appeal. Beautifully appointed with a lovely garden this is a place to relax and enjoy the best of southern France. i spent a week there and i did not want to leave. i heavily recommend this place

Family group stay in summer

The house is Monsac is ideally situated for a private family holiday. The house itself it beautiful and the setting even more so. I will never forget the field of sunflowers below the house shining all day long. The house is, if anything, more beautiful than the photos. There is lots to do around the area with local swimming pools or swimming/boating in the lake below the local chateau. It is a good house to be either supremely lazy or very industrious if you want to see vineyards or other sights. There are various local markets nearly every day in nearby locations. Anybody who gets to stay here will consider themselves lucky.
