We had a lovely time in this cottage over Christmas! The cottage is cosy but with everything you need. Contact with the host was fantastic. And the cottage was all decorated for Christmas so that was a lil cherry on top!
Lovely property set in a great location.
In a super setting and with other villages close by this makes this a really good choice to explore the Dales.
The cottage is warm , cosy and very comfortable and in a clean condition.
With paths all over the place if you a walker it’s a great spot. Our host Sue was very communicative through our stay which was Helpful. Certainly one of the best cottages we have stayed at and we hope to return !
We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage which is so well equipped and so well situated. The area is wonderful we were close to so many fantastic places for walking. The options for food and drink are endless.
I really can’t say anything negative at all about our stay in the amazing Yorkshire Dales.
Dear Sue,
12 days we had the pleasure to stay in Ghyllcroft Cottage. We felt very mucht " at home" in this very well decorated house with the nice interior.
We enjoyed every day walk directly from the house but also the trips to Malham, Ingleton or Bolton Abbey, Simon’s seat and the whole beautiful Wharfedale.
Thank you for the wonderful days

The cottage is just lovely. Comfortable, clean and quiet. It is a perfect place from which to explore the Dales.
Lovely walks right from your doorstep.
We would highly recommend
The cottage was clean and comfortable with lovely views.
Lovely walks are right on the doorstep along the River Wharfe which was perfect for our dogs.
We enjoyed eating at both The Old School Tea Rooms and The Clarendon Hotel. Both excellent!!
Really just had a lovely few days and would definitely recommend.
Cozy, comfortable, cute and convenient! Some of the best trails and pubs in all the Dales right outside the door. The hike up the Hebden Gill to the moor was a highlight. The cake, crisps and wine were a nice touch. Book a table at the Clarendon and the Craven Arms in Appletreewick. Walk Dales Way over the suspension bridge to Burnsall. And hike Pen y Gent if you can!
The location and the cottage were idyllic with a cute babbling brook running along side the road. So many scenic walks to do from the cottage and along the River Wharfe, including a wonderful waterfall trail at Ingleton, a bit further away. Lovely local pubs and enjoyed The Old School Tea Rooms 5 minutes away.Sue was very helpful in the booking process and answered all our queries before we went.
Lovely cottage in a beautiful, quiet location. Stayed for a week with our smallish dog. Cottage is very clean, well equipped and full of charm. Double bed was very comfortable. Everything works as it should, including TV, wifi and mobile signal. The owners have put much thought into the property including a welcome pack for guests. Front patio gets the sun for most of the day (in June) and has a pretty little garden. Well, you know when you're out walking and come across a pretty row of stone cottages and wonder what it'd be like to stay in one - well, now you can!!! As a bonus there are lots of great walks directly from the front door. Nature is on the doorstep and it's a paradise for birds and wildlife. We saw a barn owl hunting at dusk around the cottage on a couple of evenings. Parking no problem in Main Street a couple of mins walk away. Had a very happy week there.
Lovely little cottage hidden away at the end of a bucolic lane. So quiet and comfortable. Susan and Martin were great hosts - very helpful and communicative. Highly recommend if you want to visit the Dales!
A cosy cottage situated at the end of a lane. Great for hiking and exploring the area. Very welcoming and helpful host.
All necessary equipment there. As it is a genuine cottage space might be an issue for some. Just look at the pictures.
Ideal for lovers of the Dales.
Well equipped cottage nicely decorated. The contactless but warm welcoming from our hosts made us feel at home immediately. The information book provided by the hosts left no questions open. Walking, exploring, fishing, sightseeing can be found at least within 30 minutes drive. Although there is no parking close to the cottage it was always possible to find space within short distance. This cottage is highly recommended.
The cottage is well adapted. Warm, cosy and was a pleasure to stay in during some horrendous weather. The facilities are exactly as described and expected. The location is great for exploring. We found ourselves wondering up above the cottage in the hills and found it to be breathtaking, especially when the tops where white with a little snow. Local area has what you need. The pub was inviting and keep their beer very well. A perfect little hideaway in the Dales.
The cosy fabulous cottage was exceptional in all ways - the decor, cleanliness, position just everything was brilliant. Will definitely be returning and recommend unreservedly 😊
We had a lovely 2-week stay at Ghyll Croft. The house was spotless and Sue and Martin had gone above and beyond to ensure that everything was clean and safe with regard to COVID, without compromising on comfort. The cottage is well-placed for lots of lovely walks, and Grassington is just a short drive (or a long walk!) away. We were unlucky with the weather during our stay, but the clever remote-controlled gas fire made sure that we were always warm in the cottage! Overall, we had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
what a great find. the location is excellent. the cottage is comfortable and cozy. Everything one needs is here. lovely location, very friendly neighbours. You feel like you are part of the community over the period we stayed. Sue and Martin could not have been more helpful. looking forwards to returning.
A week in Ghyllcroft Cottage gave us the full Yorkshire Dales experience we wanted. Quiet, very well equipped and comfortable the cottage was ideally located for lots of local walks and very friendly pubs. If you want a quiet walking week in the Dales this is it!
Beautiful, cosy, quiet and spotlessly clean cottage. Equipped with everything you could possible need. Excellent communications from Sue. Folders full of information and recommended walks and maps. Well tended front patio garden - buddleia covered in butterflies in August. Lots of great but fairly easy walks from the doorstep - up to Mossy Moor Reservoir and the old mine workings, along the River Wharfe to Burnsall (nice "Riverside Café" by the car park), Grassington and Linton Falls. In the village the Old School House Café in Main Street is an essential visit - we had pre walk breakfast and afternoon tea a number of times. Clarendon Hotel/Pub just around the corner for a friendly welcome, evening beer and meal. We will look forward to returning.
We enjoyed our stay in Hebden, only a short walk to the suspension bridge over the river Wharfe with walks in all directions.
The Old School House Café is an excellent place with great food

A lovely, spacious cottage in a great location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
We really enjoyed our stay at Ghyllcroft Cottage. It is a lovely, charming cottage which had everything we needed for a 3 night stay - We would have loved to have stayed longer.
We also enjoyed the outside space, which as well as being private, it is a great space to watch the outdoor world go by - it is also a wonderful suntrap!
The location of the cottage is second to none with walks in every direction straight from the door, and a pub, restaurant and cafe around the corner.
We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a break/holiday in this lovely location.
Thanks to Sue and Martin for the great communication, and an unexpected but much appreciated welcome pack of snacks and wine. We hope to return again in the future!

Wonderful Christmas week
What a wonderful Christmas week the four of us enjoyed at the cottage. It’s so comfortable, well equipped and tastefully furnished - and positioned in God’s only countryside with such amazing walks from the doorstep.
The stay took the best part in a year of planning, reading every review which were so complimentary. But you only believe when you see it - and Ghyllcroft is even better than what we’d seen online, making for a relaxing and fun family week.
Our journey there in the final ten miles or so was tortuous on a foggy night, so we were mighty relieved to arrive in Hebden. When we stepped into the cottage we were met with a beautifully decorated real Christmas tree and subtle touches of holly - plus a very welcome hamper. The mince pies Sue left we enjoyed long after our stay.
We are serial holiday cottage renters, and no where has matched the extraordinary array of maps and guidebooks, providing inspirational ideas. It is also the first with an internet linked freeview TV, providing excellent evening viewing.
The cottage is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished without being ornate, matching the 19th century structure. The beds are such that you just don’t want to get up in the morning because they are so comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of coffee mugs and glasses and equipment that doesn’t need a degree to operate.
The lounge and dining areas is spacious so that each of the four of us could have our own space for any quiet time although we didn’t need too many of those. The cottage is easy to warm. There's plenty of windows, each with their own special view. The kitchen outlooks across the hills but sad as it may seem I’d happily look for ages at the spring gushing out on its way to the Beck.
The walking opportunities are amazing and one that I really enjoyed took me along the Beck (where there's a terrific waterfall) and then looping uphill and back past Moss Reservoir. It may be only 3.5 miles but you’ll know you’ve done a walk!
Our holiday was also made special by a marvellous Christmas Day lunch and various visits to the highly welcoming Clarendon Hotel where Lionel is a terrific host. The five-minute walk down from the pub is an absolute delight with the hills in the background.
All in all the cottage and the village is one where you can feel really at home and relaxed - and we’ll always cherish the memories of our week.
Thanks Sue and Martin for all the help and advice before hand.

About the host
Hosted by Susan McLoughlin
I (Martin) grew up lower down the Wharfe valley but moved south to study, met Sue and settled for over 30 years to work and raise our family. We bought the cottage in 2012, primarily as a place to stay when visiting relatives in the area but with the intention also to let the cottage out for holidays. Having moved to Yorkshire in 2016 we are now able to do odd jobs, enjoy the cottage/area more frequently and chat with the neighbours.
Why they chose this property
We had holidayed for years in the area with our children and as a child I (Martin), camped many times in upper Wharfedale with my family, so we knew the area very well. It was the ideal property in the ideal place, with a great local pub, walking from the door and beautiful surroundings.
As soon as we saw the cottage, we fell in love with it. And when we walked through the front door it just wowed us!
What makes this property unique
The wonderful views, character, peaceful but not isolated location made the cottage so appealing. It is a lovely place and we were very lucky to find it.
