About the host
Hosted by Tom Hart

Montargen is the French home of Jill & Tom Hart, former owners of the award-winning Eildon Holiday Cottages in Melrose, Scotland. The success of these Category 1 accessible cottages in the Scottish Borders encouraged them to open Montargen for the benefit of their many friends and guests who expressed the desire for similar facilities abroad, and others who may not yet have sampled the level of ambience and standards provided. The two gites have been developed with the same thought to accessibility as the cottages in Scotland, meaning all members of the family, regardless of mobility, can enjoy a holiday together with equal satisfaction.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the charm of the 13th century architecture, both at Montargen (the property) and the Quercy area, with its 'bastides' (fortified hilltop towns and villages) built by the occupying English when Aquitaine was part of English-owned territory after the Norman conquest. The local micro climate is mild in the winter and hot in the summer, but rarely loses its verdant quality. The local food is exceptional, in both quality and value. Even the most modest of eateries will serve up delightful cuisine as a matter of pride. On the other hand, one can live on French bread, cheese and wine for little cost and its still a lifestyle unrivalled.
