We had a wonderful holiday at this house in Bessac. The house was very charming and well equipped with plenty of room for us and we appreciated to have the two nicely designed bathrooms . We loved the pool and the garden and made good use of the outside sitting area where we enjoyed all our meals, played cricket and boule. The place is peaceful and calm, but never the less many things to do for families within the next 30 miles (horse riding, visiting castles, enjoy a ride with the kayak on the river, tree climbing park, etc). Many thanks to Linda and Adam for this perfect place to have a relaxing holiday.

Chez Poitier, Bessac
We were looking for a relaxing family holiday this year. Came across Chez Poitier in a the small commune of Bessac. Photos looked perfect for what we wanted and a quick look on Google Earth confirmed that it really was in a league of its own for tranquility...so we booked. Linda and her son Adam were most helpful in this process and I can not thank them enough, quickly answering any questions or worries I had.
To say that we were impressed would be an understatement! We loved it as soon as we arrived and we were greeted by Linda and Bill, who were waiting at the property for us.
Location: Amazing views to the French countryside in a really quiet setting. The only neighbour was at least two fields away behind the house. No properties were overlooking us. Zero traffic to be heard and only the occasional tractor! Just perfect!
Inside: The house was very well equipped with everything we needed and exceptionally clean. Although there were only four of us, all the beds had been made up before arrival, so our two children could pick a room to call their own for the week. The kitchen was large and spacious, as was the living and dining areas. All kept cool with tiled floors and plenty of windows. Very light and airy rooms. A selection of DVDs provided allowed for some cosy evenings on the sofa. 2 double bedrooms and a twin bedroom downstairs with a further double bedroom upstairs (with en suite) and an additional twin bedroom next door meant the feeling of space was definitely there.
Outside: A private pool area with decking surround meant for secluded sunbathing. Kids loved it! At night, the lighting around the pool area allowed for evening dips under the stars (light pollution was not a factor)! Also an outdoor dining area was provided for a more refreshing dining experience. With large, secure grounds for the kids to run around in, they were never short of opportunities to burn off excess energy!
Locally: We found the Carrefour Contact in Blanzac (10 minute drive away) had most of the essentials that we needed during our stay, although we did stop off enroute for the majority of supplies. Plenty of big supermarkets to choose from in Angouleme.
Overall: Would recommend a stay here without a question! The area is perfect for a quiet, relaxing getaway; the property felt very homely and tastefully decorated; the owners have done a brilliant job. Many thanks to Linda, Bill Adam and Simon for making our stay a memorable one!

Lovely property in amazingly peaceful location
This property is situated in an amazing location with wonderful views and an absolute bargain.
The UK owners were helpful and living close by which was a great help when we had a couple of questions as they came round almost immediately (not that we had any issues of any significance).
Inside there is loads of living space, the bedrooms are plenty spacious, the kitchen is well appointed. The WiFi was able to cope with the 5 children that we had who were using it when taking a break from the lovely pool.
The only gripe we had was that only one of the bathrooms (the main one downstairs) had a stand up shower, which was a separate unit to the bath. Presumably due to the sloping roof the en-suite shower was a hand held unit that you had to sit in the bath to use. Either everyone shares the downstairs one or some sit down upstairs. We didn't have an issue with the nine of us that were there at any time however.
Nearest supermarket is a 10 minute drive away in the small town of Blanca which also has a local boulangerie, tabac and small store. Some 10 minutes further away there is a Super U in the town of Montmoreau.
Plenty things to do within an hours drive of the property too for those wanting to explore the surrounding area which is beautiful.
Ultimately though this property is well appointed, clean and freshly decorated and fantastic value for money and i would recommend it to anyone.

Bessac Villa
I highly recommend this beautiful house. It has been renovated to a very high standard. All rooms are spacious and well equipped. The house was extremely clean on arrival. The owners were very helpful, and responded quickly to any questions we had.
The views are fantastic in all directions (especially the fields of sunflowers), and the peace and quiet were amazing. On our first day at the house we saw one tractor drive by and two small planes flew over. That was it - so tranquil. Within half an hour, there were a great range of swimming lakes, the Charente river (fab for swimming), Angouleme and Cognac, so plenty to do.
The swimming pool was fun for the children to play in. The pool alarm was very effective!
I'm really missing the house, having been home for a few days now. It is a very special location.

Chez Poirier - A gem in Bessac
Sometimes booking accomodation on line can be a bit of a gamble but our arrival at Chez Poirier felt like we'd hit the jackpot. The property was in excellent condition and the views over the rolling french countryside were fantastic. Our party of four adults and four boys were easily catered for. Upon entering the property there is an impressive large entrance hall with an overlooking first floor landing. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms one overlooking the front and the other at the back with a modern en suite and with magnificent views of the countryside and fields and fields of sunflowers. Downstairs there are three further good sized bedrooms and a large bathroom with bath and walk in shower. There is also a large lounge diner and modern kitchen. Outside in the large unoverlooked garden there is a large covered dining area and a modern gas bar-b-que. The pool, whilst not particularly large, is new and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, particularly on the very hot days. The pool has its own built in lighting as does the decking around it so night time dips were even more fun. There is free wi-fi available as well as Sky tv. We found the property to be of a very high standard and the owners were very friendly and helpful. The nearest supermarket is 5km away and has everything you'll need.
We had a great time at Chez Poirier and at night we sat outside sipping the local wine, watching the stars and listening to the crickets. There is no light pollution here so the sky at night is fantastic. If you like peace and quiet, good accomodation and the French countryside you will love Chez Poirier. I would certainly recommend it.

Hi, My name is Linda Smith, My Husband William and I have lived in the Charente region of France now for over 14 years. We live locally approximately 10 minutes away.
Why they chose this property
We originally bought Chez Poirier based purely on its location. The amount of work and effort required to renovate this old barn was far out weighed by its peaceful and private location and amazing views.
