Absolutely superb!
The cottage was exquisite, and I was truly gobsmacked when I walked around the corner of the main house and saw it. What a credit to Val, Ron and Michael for having such a magical cottage to rent. Loads of character, immaculate and everything you could ever wish for. My pot of tea and fresh cup cakes upon arrival was a godsend, as it was almost dark and I had been travelling all day. Both Val and Ron made me feel so welcome, and the garden was a sight to behold. Location was perfect, with an easy stroll to Bowness and the lake. I can’t recommend this property highly enough. Good transport links, with shops and restaurants close by. A little sanctuary and I will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

A quiet oasis in a beautiful garden.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Floss Cottage. Located in the owners beautiful back garden the cottage was a quiet oasis in Windermere during the busy bank holiday week. It offered everything we needed for our stay.

The Floss
we have just returned from a magical holiday at the Floss. The owners, Val and Ron, together with all their family could not have been more friendly or helpful. The cottage was extremely comfortable and well appointed and in a brilliant location: close to everything the lovely Lake District has to offer but in a very peaceful location. Although a car is convenient it is by no means essential as the whole area is serviced by easily accessible buses. We would happily and highly recommend the Floss.

Beautiful but not so good with communication
Property was excellent, clean and central to all areas. We arrived and unfortunately the owner didn’t communicated with his parents that we were arriving. Agreed to delay check in time for 2 hours so this would allow time for them to get the place cleaned and ready for us. The property was ready and the couple apologised. The lady provided us with lovely cupcakes.

The property was beautiful and perfect for a couple. Easy walk to everything. But the very best part of our stay was time we were able to spend chatting with our hosts, Val and Ron. Just delightful!!!

Perfect location, amazing place for 2
My partner's Dad gave her the first Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons book well before she could read. So, since I was headed to England for a friend's retirement, it was natural to head to the Lakes District, where I found this complete gem of a place. It is in Windermere, which suited us perfectly. It is up the hill from the busier Bowness on Windermere, but just a five minute walk from the train station where you can connect to buses to get anywhere you want to go. Having seen the driving there, please take the buses. This cottage is in back of a house on a quiet street. The house and cottage are set in an amazing garden. The cottage was fresh and spotless, the interior build was very thoughtful and high quality. The only caveat is that if you have mobility issues, there are stairs to get from the entry down to the kitchen/bath and up to the sleeping loft. Incredibly comfortable and well stocked, there were 4 cupcakes waiting for us on arrival. We could not have done any better for setting, location, and comfort. Five stars all around.

Magnificent property brilliant place
The cottage in magnificent grounds was the best we’ve stayed at. The quality of the cottage was first class and there was an abundance of quality in every area in f the cottage. Lovely gardens nice sized lounge with dining table. Quality kitchen with every available gaget of quality. Beautiful bathroom with bath jacuzzi and powerful shower. Lovely mezzanine bedroom with all necessary accessories and a lovely large bed. Outside with lovely views of the extensive garden was a private table and chairs. Immediately outside street and raking meant we parked the car and left it safely for the duration of our holiday as there was excellent bus services with bus stops both ways at the end of the quiet tree lined street to places like Windermere, Bo’ness, Grassmere and Ambleside. A 15 min walk down to Bo’ness got you to plenty of activities including boat rides to Ambleside and the southern points on Windermere. In Windermere town there were several lovely cafe /bars during the day and several lovely eaters at night with a number of pubs dotted around the town. Windermere town is just a 10 mint stroll from the property and is a great place to eat and drink. Our favourite was the ‘Tapios’ restaurant serving Mediterranean tapas and a fab selection of wines and beers. Thee was also a lovely Italian and a French restaurant along with Tilly’s and several others. The cottage is very central for everything and the owners were fantastic helping with anything you needed. Lovely lovely couple.

Amazing
An amazing find, a beautiful little cottage in spectacular garden of a beautiful house. With Ron and Val being gracious hosts we loved our stay here. The place was cozy, well thought out and immaculate in its decorative styling and features. We loved it here and is a great find if you need access to the lakes. We are paddle boarders and as a base it was perfect, also a few minutes walk into the centre of Windermere was ideal. We will definitely be back and already recommended it to loads of people wanting a place to stay in the lakes.

Best ever
This cottage is the most delightful and charming place we have ever stayed. The setting - the beautiful garden - is lovely. The hosts are wonderful - we were given tea and delicious little cakes that made us feel so welcome. Every detail of the cottage is special - the little lights that show the way down the stairs, the cheerful colors that greeted us each morning, the skylight that filled the bedroom with light, and my favorite of all - the mood light in the bathtub. What a wonderful place to spend a wonderful week. Everything was provided for our comfortable stay, and the cottage was perfectly clean. Everything was even better than our highest hopes.

Astounding details in this freestanding cottage behind the main house. Lots of clever touches. Full kitchen with all appliances, excellent shower/bath. Proprietors are next door and couldn't be nicer. Great location only a 5-min walk to town. Parking available out front. Very highly recommended!

The Floss
We had a lovely welcome, from our golden hosts, Ron and Val in a quiet and delightful garden. What a fantastic location to visit the Lake District. We did not have to drive as we had the buses up at the railway station to take us everywhere we wanted to go. Yummy cakes on arrival at The Floss and milk in the fridge for a drink and rest before unpacking. Truly a home from home! THANK YOU SO MUCH, Vrbo, Michael, Val and Ron.

Beautiful cottage in stunning gardens
The Floss really is a perfect little getaway. Beautifully clean, very comfortable with the added bonus of a stunning garden to sit and enjoy after a long days walking. The welcome cakes were an unexpected treat and absolutely scrummy. Perfectly located so that you can explore both Bowness and Windermere, along with some very nice restaurants, and also great links to public transport if required. And of course plenty of great walks on the doorstep to keep you busy.

The Floss is perfect for a couple—so thoughtfully furnished and lovely, with all of the necessities provided. The gardens maintained by Val and Ron, the owners of the large house in front, are spectacular. They were friendly and helpful. And the short walk into restaurants and pubs was so handy. We are Ron and Val
I have lived in Windermere all my life and Val, my wife is just about local, moving here when she was a teenager!
We ran a local florist business in the village for about 30 years and now I spend most of my time, either in the garden or fulfilling my role as of Chairman for the Heathwaite Junior Football Club and member of the Taverners Cricket Club. Val is very happy to be retired!

Why they chose this property

We bought the house in 1981 as both Val and me fell in love with it. The house is beautiful Lakeland slate with a large bay window letting in loads of light to the front room. The garden was huge and covered in a mass of rhododendron buses, flower beds and trees. In the grounds was an out building, again in Lakeland stone and a large bay window, which much later became The Floss.
The house is so quiet and private even though being right in the heart of Windermere with easy access to the village or a short walk to the Lake.
The house was a great place to bring up our children, is enjoyed by the grandchildren and Flossy the family dog loved playing out in the garden all her life. Our daughters dog Scarlett spends plenty of time in it too chasing her much loved ball!

What makes this property unique

The benefits of staying here are vast. The gardens have become even more spectacular over the last few years, ever since retiring I enjoy many an hour digging, weeding and planting in all weathers!
The amount of land surrounding the house and cottage is fantastic. There are very few houses like ours in the village which have the benefit of being so central and having the space and peace away from it all.
The slate seating area adjacent to the cottage is a great vantage point for enjoying the garden, reading a good book or chatting with friends and family. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a Pims in the summer sun (weather permitting, it is the Lake District!)
