France rurale à son meilleur
We have just returned from a fabulous 5 day break at La Grange. Its years since we last visited France and we were certainly not disappointed with our choice of accomodation or location. Hilary and Dave have created a beautiful gite - a true home from home with everything you could possibly need, in a peaceful rural setting with lovely views. We were very lucky to have fantastic weather for the whole 5 days and would recommend trips out to Chenonceau, Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau and the brilliant Zoo Parc de Beauval (which is worth every penny). We would have no hesitation in recommending La Grange and we hope to return next year. P.S. Hilary - I've spent all morning on Leggett!!

PERFECT
La Grange - what a GEM. Having holidayed in France many times our party all agreed this is the best so far - location, house (absolutely immaculate), Hilary & David (they do their best to ensure you have a wonderful holiday) + the weather (something that can't be controlled!) all perfect. When we arrived (directions excellent) we were greeted as friends, by the time we left, we were. Hilary & David are never intrusive but always friendly. They have thought of everything, nothing is too much trouble for them. Yes you are far from the shops etc but that is normal in France do not let this deter you from booking. Do your research & plan ahead then shopping is a doddle. The location of La Grange means your are within 1 hour (1 place is just 20 minutes) from some beautiful sites. Hilary & David we wish you every success for the years to come -you deserve it. I'm sure we will return (I hope so). Many thanks for your hospitality.

Best self catering accommodation ever
My wife Jean and I together with our friends Alan and Tina stayed at La Grange for our holiday in the Loire. We were met on arrival by Hilary and Dave who proudly (and quite rightly so) showed us over the property. This is quite simply the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Their renovation of the property is stunning and the views are beautiful. The owners live next door and without being at all intrusive they advised us on local shops, markets and restaurants. We would thoroughly recommend this property, 10/10. Thanks Hilary and Dave very much indeed.

Charming home-from-home in a peaceful hamlet
We enjoyed our week in Hilary and David's very comfortable and well-furnished home in the French countryside. The house is part of a small hamlet which was quiet and tucked away and the views were wonderful from the back of the house. Hilary and David are lovely hosts and looked after us well. Hope to be able to go back sometime.

Just Perfect, Relaxing and Stunning
Our stay at 'La Grange' was simply perfect. The location is beautiful allowing for the 'away from it all' feeling while in comfortable driving distance to a plethora of attractions. David and Hilary were utterly spectacular hosts and even invited us to share a bottle of wine and some cheese in true french fashion. The actual house is beautifully decorated, the kitchen in particular allowed us to indulge in experimenting with the local cuisine. The backyard is the excellent place to daydream, read a book and sip some wine and we found ourselves outside frequently. We could not recommend this property enough to any and all prospective holidayers. We would go back in a heartbeat and would like to thank David and Hilary for an amazing stay and great company.

TRANQUIL, WONDERFUL ACCOMMODATION
La Grange is in a great countryside location, the view from the back verandah is amazing! Every comfort has been thought of and Dave and Hilary are so helpful and friendly! When we arrived late afternoon - the fridge was stocked with basics and there was fresh bread and two bottles of local wine waiting for us! We had some wonderful walks in the area and found some great restaurants in villages no more than 6 km away. We also cooked some meals in the very well equipped kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and the peace and quiet of the area helped us get a fantastic night's sleep! I would love to stay here again (though France is a long way from Australia) and would spend more time just sitting outside on the back verandah enjoying the fantastic view of green fields and trees. Highly recommended!

La Grange
Lovely property , well maintained and spacious, very well equipped with everything you need including WiFi . The owners Hilary and David were great hosts and fantastic company. Its especially good if you want a nice relaxing holiday, the garden and outlook were lovely, many local walks and chateaux to visit if you want to. A swimming pool would have got it 5 stars! Highly recommended.

A fantastic location in the Loire
We have rent this charming house for one week. It was beyond expectations ! The rooms are decorated with style, the kitchen is well equipped, the towels are the softest we've ever had. There are nice gardens in front and the back of the house, overviewing the beautifull environment. The owners are very helpfull but are also very discreet. We have enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you very much Hilary and David for your hospitality !

Nice house, nice setting
This property is a well-equipped and well-renovated barn with excellent living spaces on the ground floor (kitchen-dining and living rooms). Upstairs is not so good, with one of the bedrooms being much larger and brighter than the other and with its own ensuite bathroom. Neither of the bathrooms is big enough for comfort, with nowhere convenient to put things down and a shower that is too cramped. All in all I'd say that the property is more suitable for a family with 2-3 children than for two couples. The owners, who live close by, are very friendly and helpful if called upon but not at all intrusive. Top marks to them! A word of caution, though, to those (like us) who don't want to have to drive a long way to do their grocery shopping (or even get a pint of milk): this property, despite its plus-points, is truly out in the wilds, so you'd need to be aware of that in advance and to be prepared for a great deal of driving. It would be ideal, however, for people who are looking for a very quiet holiday with lots of reading and walking. The setting and the views are really lovely.

Holiday barn
Hi we stayed here at Christmas for nearly 10 days. We were 4 adults and a 2.5 yr old. Hilary and Dave were amazing hosts. I must say I never stayed somewhere so welcome and an absolutely beautiful place. They even put a beautiful Christmas tree for us with presents and everything. The bedrooms were big and comfortable with en suites and an additional shower WC downstairs. They recommended some amazing places to eat locally. Away from the cities yet close to everything. I bet summer must be spectacular with sunflower fields. The temperature was 14 degrees C on Christmas Day. The place is immaculate with wood fires keeping you warm and cosy. Lovely walks near by and we did not want to leave!! Definitely recommend this place and also try and buy a place nearby there. You are near Chinon and Saumur. Best hols!!!!!

Visit to perfection!
We stayed at la Grange for the 1st week of September 2012. The accommodation was absolutely perfect. We could not believe the attention to detail and the cleanliness of the house. It is like being in a photo shoot for a house design magazine. At the back of the house are a couple of decks to chase the sun or shade, whatever your choice. We had a field of sunflowers at the bottom of the garden which was stunning to look at whenever passing a window. We left the curtains open at night and slept under the stars. There is so much to do and see within 20 minutes of La Grange, with barely a car in sight. The local restaurants were incredibly good value and of a very high standard. David and Hilary have made a small piece of paradise in a perfect spot. We will be back

Beautifully converted barn overlooking farmland
A wonderful location in a small hamlet with plenty of towns, markets etc of interest within easy driving distance. Friendly, welcoming, helpful owners Hilary and Dave are next door if required, but privacy is respected. The barn has been beautifully converted and is extremely well equipped. Gardens at the front and rear cater for all times of day, with lovely views over the directly adjoining farmland at the rear.

Perfect Getaway
I spent a great deal of time trying to find the "right place" for our holiday in the Loir. We have rented gites many times before in France, and through our experiences have had practice of what to look out for. Is it private, clean, comfortable and nice surroundings? Are there interesting things to see and do? The barn in Chaumussay not only ticked all the boxes, but exceeded our expectations! The barn has character, but remains bright and CLEAN (so many gites are very dusty). It is well equipped, and very comfortable. The view from the deck is lovely, and we spent every evening enjoying wine and the view. You feel very much in the country, but yet are close to many local amenities. We spent many days cycling and exploring the local area, where there is so much to discover. The owners, Hillary and David, have all the holiday information you will need in their information pack, and lots more for you to browse through. Recommended restaurants, local maps, supermarkets, sites, markets, ect. are all included, saving you the time of having to do it all yourself! David and Hillary are very helpful and welcoming, but at the same time respect your privacy. We had a wonderful holiday, and would love to return. This place has all the ingredients for a great holiday.

La Grange Fantastic
There is only one word I can think of to sum up our holiday at 'La Grange' FANTASTIC! We also made the mistake of only staying one week, one week is just not long enough, so we intend to go back again in October. Hilary and Dave have converted their cottage to a very high standard and of course it has the all important English touch added to it. For the past eight years we have been going on holiday to France staying in a house or cottage 'La Grange is the best of the best. Even our Golden Retriever gave his sign of satisfaction and was greeted by Hilary and Dave with open arms. I personally have problems with sleeping but this was the first time in many years that I was able to have a good nights sleep, waking up in the mornings feeling fresh and full of energy and ready to tour the beautiful area of Loire et Indre, returning in the evening eating our meal on the terrace, looking out into the surrounding fields and forest watching the French sunset and toping it all by relaxing in the very comfortable living room watching one of the many English TV programs. And then knowing you are going to have a good nights sleep in a charming bedroom with a very comfortable bed. What could a person want more! Hilary and Dave you gave us a great holiday, but there is one thing you could do for us when we come back, could you please install a soap dish in the shower cells?

An oasis for stressed souls
What a beautiful place we found in the heart of France where pittoresque hamlets and forgotten castles and an idyllic landscape are reminders of a European hot spot in the Middle Age and Renaissance era. Here it is where Hilary and David – our adorable hosts – converted an old barn with love and dedication into a luxurious and impressive lodge that makes your stay relaxing without no wishes left. Behind the 200 years old walls you find a vast kitchen and dining area state-of-the-art, a careful decorated living room with flat screen TV, two beautiful bedrooms in the upper floor for six persons in total who can share three bathrooms. If weather conditions shouldn't be that good you may use one of the two open fireplaces. In each corner of the barn you notice and feel the work of two idealists with a sense for the nice details who seem to have fulfilled their dream. Outside you profit from a garden in the front and a terrace in the back. Hilary's and David's barn is the ideal starting point for trips towards the castles of the Loire and offers the perfect combination of sight-seeing and remote holidays to recharge your batteries. That works to 100 per cent: mobile and internet connection are poor. We enjoyed every minute in and around the barn, we want to recommend it strongly and thank Hilary and David for their friendliness and being such nice hosts!

Outstanding holiday home
Highly recommended! One of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed at in France. It's beautifully furnished, it's got a lovely garden which is well tended, a big decked terrace with a view, plenty of loungers and outdoor tables and chairs, comfortable beds, plenty of nice bathrooms, a big living room with proper furniture, a huuuuuge kitchen, it's very clean, and it has very generous and caring owners. What more could you want? It's hard to think of any downsides to mention, and with such lovely owners I feel bad even trying! But in the interests of an independent and rounded review, there isn't a dishwasher and until the little Judas tree grows you are reliant on a parasol or the shade of the house if you want to get out of the sun. You will have a few cats and chickens visiting you, and obviously there is no pool, but for a lot of people both of those will be upsides! So to sum up....my advice is book it NOW before someone else grabs it first!

The most Idyllic picturesque Holiday Home
My husband and I spent two amazing weeks there after his return from a year in Afghanistan. It was just what we and especially he needed. Perfect sunny weather, stunning scenery, and just lots to do. If we didn't spend the days cycling or running through the beautiful countryside, we would venture out sightseeing (thanks to the vast knowledge of Hilary and David we were never at a loss of things to do). We would both go back in a heartbeat and look forward to seeing the most hospitable and friendly owners Hilary and David again. La Grange is a stunning renovation that you can tell has been a labor of love. We cant wait to go back and have another perfect holiday.

Dream vacation in the French countryside
visiting the Loire valley with young children is easier to do when you have a real home away from home. La Grange is exactly that. It is clean, new, spacious and comfortable with beautiful bedrooms, very well equipped kitchen, fun living room and the best yard for a lazy afternoon. It is set among fields and forests where we took great walks with our children. The location is perfect for visiting Touraine and the charming owners know everything about the surroundings and are eager to share their knowledge. We loved cooking at home and eating on the outer deck but we also loved the restaurant at nearby Chambon called "Le Vieux Fournil", we couldn't believe how good the food was in this tiny village. I would recommend this property to families that like to spend quality time in the countryside but still want to enjoy some of the sights and attractions of the Loire. The property has files with info on EVERYTHING around. Our best days were looking up the location of the daily market, buying all the goodies we wanted and walking up to the local Chateau, for a royal picnic.

A lovely, lovely place
We stayed a week in mid August, and though the weather was merely OK, the hospitality of David and Hilary was extra special - and the house they pulled together, through much hard work and dedication, an extraordinary home for their guests - the hamlet and the surrounding area is lovely for walks - and there is so much to do in the area, that you will wish you had booked for two weeks. We (family of 2 adults+two rather energetic boys of 7 and 3) found the house a wonderful place to stay - we would - and do - recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful holiday home in rural France
We are a family of five plus our small dog and have recently returned from a fantastic week in La Grange. Hilary and David are rightly proud of their beautiful home which they have renovated from scratch into a lovely house. We have three teenagers but there was plenty of room for us all to spread out in the spacious, comfortable house and also to soak up the sun on one of the many loungers whilst enjoying the view from the pretty terrace. The house was spotlessly clean and Hilary and David welcomed us like old friends with plenty of helpful information about the local area and attractions. We visited the busy Sunday market in Descartes, spent a day in the nearby beautiful village of Angles and swam from the river beach at Lessigny - very popular with us all including our dog Millie! I would not hesitate to recommend La Grange to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday in a beautiful house.

Beautiful barn in a very pretty quiet hamlet
We have just returned from a lovely relaxing holiday at La Grange. The barn is really pretty and spotlessly clean, Dave and Hilary were really helpful and very welcoming. The barn backs onto farm land and the rear terrace has a lovely view, not at all overlooked. At the front is a very quiet lane and our boys enjoyed riding their bikes around the lanes as there is next to no traffic. We borrowed the bikes in the barn and could all go out together, the short ride to Chaumussay is very pretty. Our boys loved the river at Lesigney, there is a beach area and also currents for older children to swim in. We visited futuroscope which is about 45mins away, the boys loved this. We also went canoeing at Descartes; they dropped us up the river for a 2 hour canoe back to Descartes which was really great, you can do a whole day if you want. We have had a great week and would be very happy to recommend this property to family and friends.

A Home from Home in Idyllic Rural France
We stayed at La Grange in summer 2009 and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The property is amazing and has been renovated to the highest standard. We are veterans of holidays in France and what was so nice about La Grange was that it really was a home from home with those extra luxuries that you do not normally find in holiday homes. The location is perfect - idylically peaceful and rural and we found it a very relaxing holiday. There are some really interesting places to visit. We enjoyed visiting the market at Loule and several other towns, villages and chateaux in the area. We will definitely be returning because there is so much more to see.
