Family celebration holiday
The property was everything it said it would be. Myself, husband & family had a wonderful relaxing week. We celebrated my 60th birthday, at a local restaurant Black beach cafe which was great! The beach is within walking distance so it was perfect for everyone. Porthmadog has a lovely harbour, with plenty of shops. We also visited Porthmeirion which was beautiful (just 10mins)) drive away!

Lovely cottage in excellent location
Great location with a short walk to one of my favourite beaches in Wales, and a good location for visiting all over North Wales. Cottage is lovely with all the appliances you need, and also great for relaxing. The hot tub was a nice bonus.

Comfortable but not ‘ luxurious ‘
We found everything to be as described. Hot tub and kitchen perfect. Thankfully noticed on the arrival instructions there would be no towels provided due to Covid (when there are bedsheets and pillow cases why ??). Master bedroom had a horrible discoloured damp corner and stained walls due to a previous leak, which was quite unsightly. The property owners were efficient and helpful but not overly so . Bring your own dishwasher tabs as only one provided ditto washing up liquid , soap toilet roll etc . Overall a very pleasant stay . Lovely location close to beach and lots to explore in local area . Small gripes didn’t spoil holiday but thought it only fair to warn future visitors …

Great location minutes from the beach
Great location, minutes away from Black Rock sands. A small supermarket is close by for essentials. There is a lovely , newly refurbished family pub just along the road to the beach adding to the local amenities. The house is beautifully presented and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The 2 bath/shower rooms are a great bonus , especially with teenage children. Our favourite feature was the hot tub and is great for relaxing in at the end of the day.

Lovely summerhouse and outdoor dining facilities. Fabulous hot tub but were unable to use due to Covid restrictions. Will certainly book for another stay.

Fabulous cottage
Spent a superb weekend here for my best friend's 60th surprise birthday weekend. Stunning cottage with lovely decor, top quality furniture and fittings but home from home ethos. Great location with easy access to beautiful beaches and scenic walking country. The icing on the cake - the lovely hot tub in the private patio to chill out and watch the stars. A credit to the owners- thank you

Everything you need in wonderful location
We had a lovely relaxing stay in Y Don which was most welcome after all the long walks each day. To come back and relax in front of the log burner or chill out in the hot tub was perfect. Very well equipped and lovely comfy bed! We will be back.

Happy Holidays
Y Don is fabulous property with excellent facilities, very well presented and a homely feel. It benefits from a superb location which is 5 minutes flat walk to Black Rock Sands beach. Latter is dog friendly and takes cars as well which we find useful for elderly relatives not able to manage the walk. There has been a great deal of thought given to this property in terms of layout, equipment and functionality. Good quality appliances, plenty of crockery etc and high spec bathrooms/ kitchen add to the positive impression. It lends itself to families/couples and as it is all on one level with no steps , it is suitable for less mobile individuals. From our perspective , the pet friendly option was part of the attraction and What is not emphasised is how secure the rear of the property /patio area is, with lockable, full height pedestrian gate and no escape under fences or gates for our inquisitive Jack Russell terriers. The hot tub is an excellent addition to outside facilities and no doubt the summer house with TV etc is a welcome option for larger groups. In the interest of a balanced review : would agree with other reviews that the main bed was a bit uncomfortable but that is more a matter of preference for a hard mattress, than a failing. Second bedroom has much better bed and would be easier to keep cool in hot weather but it does not have a wardrobe, which is the only downside. There is motion detector lighting in porch and hall. Very handy in porch but a bit intrusive sometimes in the hall area , with bright light going into bedrooms. The porch light also came on when one of the dogs barked so think we probably didn't help much with the energy consumption during our week ! Sorry Wendy. Central heating very efficient and exterior lighting was good. Overall, it is very difficult to find anything negative with this accommodation and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Book now ! we will definitely look to rent again

Beautiful Cottage
Y Don is beautiful Cottage, The owners Wendy & Martin have thought of everything when renovating this property. We had a very relaxing stay between Christmas and New year. The management team were extremely helpful, nothing was to much trouble. I would definitely recommend this Cottage.

Wonderful Holiday
We had a wonderful 5 day break at Y Don and wish it could have been longer. Y Don more than met our expectations. There was everything you could wish for, and more. Everything was extremely clean & well maintained. The bedrooms were comfortable & quiet. A cot and highchair were provided for the 10 month old in our party. The bathroom, with shower, and en suite shower room, off the master bedroom, were lovely and clean The open plan kitchen, dining room & lounge were ideal. The kitchen was exceptionally well stocked. We made good use of the utility room but didn't use the summer house. I can imagine if you have teenagers in your party, it would be ideal. The hot tub was wonderful, clean, easy to use and so relaxing. The location of Y Don was excellent. The beach was a short walk away but you could drive on and, as I have restricted mobility, this was ideal. The spar shop and fish & chip shop were close by and there was a choice of three supermarkets in nearby Porthmadog. Wendy was lovely to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful stay and hope to be back soon.

Great place to stay
Lovely cottage in ideal location. Extremely clean with up to date facilities and decor. Beds are soft- not too good for bad backs and patio doors in ensuite bedroom are nice but not good for ventilation at night. It is nice to have summer house as additional room. The hot tub and BBQ are kept exceptionally clean. The patio gets the sun most of the day. Could do with having use of parasol for outdoor table. The beach is just down the road 5 minutes walk. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here and would recommend

Snowdonia at its best
We have been taking self catering holidays for almost 40 years, and this one is in the top three, in fact its location puts it at number 1. The property was very well equipped over and above the necessities, was comfortable, homely and spotlessly clean. Having access to the barbeque and hot tub was an added bonus given the exceptional weather we had for the whole week - 22-24 degrees and very warm evenings. Y Don is ideally situated for exploring Snowdonia national park and the beautiful coastline around the peninsula and to the south of Porthmadog. We enjoyed the journey on the Ffestiniog railway, Portmerion and exploring the pretty villages in the national park and around the coast. The nearby beach is ideal for beach games and walking. As the weather was so good, we didn't eat out, but relaxed in the quiet back garden and enjoyed barbeques. On the last night we had fish and chips from the nearby fish shop -very good quality. I would have no hesitation in recommending Y Don, in fact I have already mentioned it to several friends. We hope to return ourselves in the not too distant future. If you want a holiday in this part of Wales, I doubt you'll find anywhere better to stay self catering.

Great!
This cottage has everything you could possibly need. Stayed for one week and would have liked to stay longer. It is a very short walk (5 minutes) left from the cottage to the wonderful sandy beach. Perfect beach for kids and dog walking! If you want a quiet beach holiday with an easy drive to many other attractions, this is the perfect location. The cottage is lovely: very homely, comfortable, modern and spotlessly clean. You will find everything you need. There is plenty of space (the cottage looks smaller from the outside). We didn’t use the lovely summer house as our party was only two adults and a dog, however, having been on many holidays with 3 growing children/teenagers – this is a perfect spacious ‘den’ with wii, internet access etc! Hot tub was great – again spotlessly clean (have been to other cottages over the years and been disappointed to find a dirty hot tub). Patio area is pretty and well furnished – great place to spark up the big barbeque provided – February was not really in the right season for to use but it would be great in the warmer months. We did however get a lot of use from the wood burner in the lounge, very cosy! Bedrooms are very pleasant, comfortable and have good quality linen (we had no trouble sleeping at all, very quiet). Bathrooms again are all spotless and modern. We found this cottage and its location very relaxing. Would definitely recommend to couples, families with children / teenagers and dog walkers. PERFECT! Great customer service, thank you.

Everything taken care of
Just returned from a short-break in this lovely property. The pictures do not do it justice everything is finished to the highest standard and everything you may need has been taken care of. The outside of the property is just as stunning as the inside with several seating areas where you can take in the beautiful views of your surroundings. Hot tub is an added bonus The sandy beach is five minutes walk away past a friendly pub that even allows dogs into specified areas. There is a well stocked spar shop at the top of the road if you have forgotten anything. The owners have been very helpful throughout the booking process and we are booking for next year straight away.

About the host

Host profile image
We are Martin and Wendy Edwards. We love Morfa Bychan, the Surrounding area and our cottage, which we bought back at the end of 2010 to renovate and completely refurbish, this previously unloved and much neglected cottage back to life.
Our 11 year old son is also very passionate about holidaying here, he can use his bycyle and scooter and loves the freedom the area provides.
Our 18 year has gone off to Uni now, but made many friends on his holidays here in the past.
We have a Sprocker dog, who I think loves Black Rock Sands more than we do, she seems to be able to smell it once we cross the Cob.

It is so peaceful, yet with some much to see and do too.
It really is our little heaven away from all the hustle and bustle of life.
We really do hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We just loved the location.
The proximity to the beach and just so peaceful in the cottage.
Yet if you want it there is plenty to see and do around the area.
The Spar shop and Chip Shop around the corner, just so convenient.

What makes this property unique

I love visiting the cottage, so peaceful and relaxing. Once i get there there is no need to use your car. The well stocked Spar shop round the corner. The beach only 5 minutes walk away.
The just a little further you can walk to Borth-y-Gest or Porthmadog only two miles, with many coffee shops, scenic walks and shopping, there is even a crazy golf to pass the time.
