Private, Country Island Beach House

Description of Halekai
Welcome to our little slice of heaven overlooking the tropical waters of the pacific. This property is located in the quiet little town of Laie on the part of the Island that is what you expect Hawaii to be.
This newly remodeled property in Jan 2016 has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. The master suite is the entire upstairs with french doors that open onto a massive lanai enjoy relaxing with these mind blowing ocean views. Halekai’s all new kitchen with new appliances are on the ground floor toward the back with French doors open to the patio and large grass back yard with steps to a secluded deck and then into the water. Impeccably decorated. Every room in the Halekai has a beautiful view. Unlike the crowded busy streets of Waikiki and Honolulu, the property has amazing ocean view and surrounded by jungle covered mountains. This side of the island is much more quiet and less touristy so you can actually enjoy the sounds of the ocean and nature without all the crowds of Waikiki. Still the town of Laie has everything you need, good food and is home to the World Famous Polynesian Cultural Center. The Halekai has all the things you need to enjoy your Hawaiian getaway in comfort.
This is one of the few north shore beaches where you can play in the water from your back door with kids and still surf the outer reefs on a large swell day . Winter brings high surf to North Shore, but Bath Tub Beach is swimmable year round. This is due to the many reefs that soften & absorb the big waves as they come to shore. The Bath Tub allows for many activities in the safety and shelter of the reef. The bath tub has a sandy bottom and calm clear water so you can learn to paddle, swim and snorkle with out the threat of waves. Or you can just sit on the deck and watch the fish swim by. You will feel close to some of the island's gems while still being able to have your own, private Hawaii experience. Spectacular ocean views for miles out. Even a rainy day in Laie brings beautiful rainbows to your view. Sleep to the roar of the ocean. Watch surfers and wind surfers from your back windows. Watch for the whales, turtles and sting rays swim by from the decks. Or if your lucky you will wake up to Sugar Girl our sweat monk seal sleeping on top of the reef after her all night feeding. Be quite because she will leave when she wakes up.
We the owners are available to you throughout your entire stay, just a phone call/text away you can learn all about the hot spots on island as well as purchase tickets to local attractions, the best restaurants, ect.
Halekai is on a beautiful ocean front which provides tenants completely newly furnished kitchens, high-end linens, towels, beach towels, beach chairs, flat screen HDTV's, Netflix, cable, dvd players, free wireless high speed internet, complimentary washer & dryers with detergent and softener, large outdoor grill to use on the front or back yards.
Endless activities include snorkeling, swimming, lounging on beach or decks, fishing, complimentary 2 person kayak, hiking, watching sunrises & sunsets, surfing and body boarding along with whale watching in winter months and so much more right out your front and back doors. With 2 local grocery stores nearby, you won't even need to leave our beautiful Halekai! Aloha!

Nice relaxing stay with a large group

We had ten people and still had an empty bedroom. It was really nice to be able to walk out the backyard into the ocean. Near a lot of activity and sights without the bustle of the Honolulu crowds. Gunner was on the property and very helpful.

Perfect Location!

The photos are accurate for the most part; the house is a bit worn down. The location is perfect however, and if you were any closer to the water you would be in it! Perfect for large groups and the caretaker is responsive although there were lights and fans that didn't work and we lost internet for the last part of our stay. Towels and linens could use some updating but those are small things as the house was clean and great for our needs. Be aware that stores are closed in Laie on Sunday and that you need to drive a bit to get booze. On a busy street but set back from the road. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again. Thank you!!

Amazing home and location!

We had the best family vacation here with all of our kids. Gunner the property host was very nice and helpful. The house is huge and had rooms and plenty of bathrooms for all of us. The swimming was amazing and the kids loved seeing all of the different sea life. We hope to return soon.

Christmas vacation in Hawaii

We had a wonderful time at this North Shore ocean front home. It is an older home that has been remodeled more than a few times. Some of the finishes are a little rough but it was the perfect place to vacation with our newly blended family including our four twenty something children. It was the perfect environment to bond with each other. We loved the spectacular views of the ocean and paddle boarding in the lagoon just steps away from the back door. We cooked and enjoyed meals in the dining room and lounged on the covered patio. It was even special in the rain. We spent a lot of time on the patio during some amazing downpours that passed as fast as they came on. I give this place and it’s owner Rusty my highest recommendation. You will like it. Aloha!

Perfect Family Getaway Location

We rented the property for my in-laws 70th birthday. The house had plenty of space. The location was great. Right across the street from the Polynesian Cultural Center and less than a mile from Laie Point Cliff Jump where parts of Forgetting Sarah Marshall were taped. Plus, as an added bonus, there is snorkel gear at the house that you can use to snorkel from the deck. I would say to be careful on the deck as many of the boards are old. My sister in law’s foot fell through one of the boards. Before coming, I was excited for the Luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center based on other reviews, but that was not the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed trips to places like Waimea Bay and Sharks Cove much more. We also drove an hour to Hanauma Bay to snorkel which was well worth it in my opinion. We got there before 7am, there was plenty of parking and we did not have to watch the video or pay an entrance fee. As far as food, the food trucks down the street were great. I also highly recommend Papa Ole’s. Great food, large portions, and not expensive at all. Took a little while to get food because it was so popular, but worth the wait. And, of course, there are plenty stores near by if you prefer to cook at home. (There is a propane grill out back.) The only minor annoyance was the neighbors. They are not thrilled about the property being a rental, so we were careful to be polite and stay out of their way. If we had any issues or questions during the stay, the property manager, Nick, was easily accessible and incredibly helpful.

Great value on a quite side of the island

We had 5 couples staying here for a full week and couldn't have been happier. The "bath tub" made the ocean easy to get to and play in all week for all members of the family. The house was great for a home right on the ocean and we had an awesome time!

Wonderful stay on the North Shore.

My family and I had a great stay on this ideally situated property right above the Bathtub Beach region of La'ie. The view was fabulous and the location afforded us quick access to many of the North Shore beaches and other outdoor activities as well as quick access to groceries, food, and fuel. We hope to return!

Just ok

Considering the price of rent and the amount you pay to have it cleaned. I expected the house to be a lot cleaner. Bugs don’t bother me I expected it but house was dirty. I left it cleaner than I received it!!

Memories for a lifetime!

We had so much fun at this beautiful property, and Nick was a friendly and considerate host, willing to help out above and beyond. We could snorkel right in the back yard, even in winter with the protection of the reef. The house is centrally located for al north shore activities, and convenient to the Polynesian Culture Center and tasty food truck offerings. There are plenty of water toys included. This was a trip of a lifetime!

Beautiful Home in a a perfect setting.

My family and I stayed for our first visit to Hawaii and it was all that we were looking for. Comfy cozy and everything that you need to spend a great relaxing week in Laie Hawaii just south of the north shore. Easy access to the Poly Center and stores with a few good food places nearby. The master suite on second floor is what i would think a quintessential experience, sit on the deck with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise with a nice breeze. Perfect for a family or group of friends. The bathtub ocean access out back (or front) is great to jump in and do a few laps. Owner is very accommodating and helpful. I would definitely stay again if the chance arises. Thanks again for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

The views are amazing, great location, had everything we needed for a great time

The views are amazing. We loved the location, we walked to the cultural center and ate a few times. It was fairly warm when we were there and the rooms with AC stayed comfortable enough. We had the fans going in the other rooms, so it wasn’t too bad. We had fun playing with the kayaks. The house overall had everything we needed to have a great time.

Quiet place lots of activity.

our family had a great stay. Peaceful at night. Day time we enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards. Our youngest kids were snorkeling for the first time and at low tide the water is very calm. The food trucks just up the street provided good variety. A simple walk. Great spot for branching out to other activities. Sunset beach, sharks cove, gun stock ranch, kualua ranch all a short drive from here. Walk to Polynesian cultural center. Will stay here again.

Just what we wanted!

Stayed for a week. 2 adults and 6 teenagers. House and location were perfect for us. Homeowner was very helpful and promptly responded to any questions we had. The 2 person kayak was a big hit with the kids. Pounders Beach was very close and we loved it. No A/C in kitchen and downstair bedrooms was only complaint, but the fans were enough at night. Overall, it was great!!

Great House!

We stayed here with 3 other families for a quick getaway and it was perfect. There are 5 bedroom, 4 downstairs and 1 (master) upstairs. The 2 masters have A/C units along with the living room. All rooms have ceiling fans and standing fans which is a nice amenity to have. Although the ocean breeze surely keeps the rooms cool. Wish the bedroom nearest to the ocean had a screen door so we could sleep with it open. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed. There are stairs that lead down to an amazing lagoon with a deck half way down. During low tide, its just 2-3 ft deep. It did get pretty high and rough later through the day but that's when we used the deck for fishing. Not a ton of fish but we did have a seal come visit 2 of the days we were there! The local contact person was very friendly and informative about the home. I was in direct contact with the owner and he was very responsive to my questions prior. We hope to be able to come back here and enjoy the house again soon

We enjoyed our stay in Laie

My daughter recently got married. My son is stationed at Hickam AFB as a pilot. We were searching for a place where our family could relax for the Holidays, spend time with my son (unable to get leave to make it back to the mainland), and where the family could get to know and visit with our new son-in-law. This Island Beach House was the perfect place . We reserved it for 4 couples and a single (my father) and the five bedrooms of this home were comfortable for all of us. The master bedroom, where the newlyweds stayed, is upstairs and secluded from the rest of the house which gave them some privacy. Yet, there was plenty of room down stairs in the living room and at the large kitchen table to gather and have fun with a view of the ocean and sound of the waves in the background. We used the grill in the backyard almost daily and we snorkeled and used the kayak off the dock. The "bathtub" was cool and allowed a comfortable swimming area even on the stormy days. I loved listening to the sound of the ocean as I fell asleep each night. We spent a week in Waikiki before coming to this house, and I must say that I enjoyed the quiet east shore so much more than the crazy traffic and crowded Honolulu area. My son and my new son-in-law are surfers and so we spent a lot of time on the north shore surfing spots which were about 15 minutes away. Our favorite place to have lunch after surfing was Haleiwa...my son knew the best places to go. A couple things about this house should be mentioned. If you are used to a pristine, perfect 5 star hotel, this may not be for you. This house has some rust and degeneration that should be expected from a place exposed to the salt water and weather as it is right on the water. However, it was clean and comfortable and these "imperfections" did not effect our enjoyment of the property...it probably made us feel more at home. Also, the beds are quite soft for my comfort--nobody else in our group had a problem but this gave my bad back some soreness. Overall, I will recommend this place to friends and I would like to return in the future.

Great Deal!!

The property was as described and more. This is a great place to unwind after a long day playing and sightseeing. When we first arrived I was worried we would regret not staying in town, but after experiencing the traffic it was a quiet and relaxing oasis away from the crowds. There are awesome beaches nearby and you can be in Waikiki in about 40 minutes if hustle and bustle is what you are looking for. I would highly recommend this place and will stay here again next time. The location was perfect, out of the busy traffic but convenient. The property is gorgeous and the beds were super comfortable with room for everyone. The house had beautiful landscaping and the kids loved snorkeling right off the back deck. The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It had everything we needed and the grocery was right down the street. We had a wonderful stay at this property over Spring Break and will defiantly be back!

Beautiful location with lots of room

This home has fantastic views, stairs into the ocean, a 2 person kayak and plenty of bedrooms. We loved hearing the waves as we drifted off to sleep. They have remodeled the upstairs into a lovely master bedroom suite. There are still 4 bedrooms downstairs. We were 11 people and whether bought for us or just unopened there were 2 air mattresses (with automatic pumps) a queen and a twin. These were a perfect addition for our single guys who did not want to share:) The living room sectional is comfortable and all of the pieces moved easily to create a circle for games at night. The floors are low maintenance concrete and tile with occasional area rugs. The stairs and railing appear original to the house and add tons of charm. There are many upcycled unique pieces in this home the bathroom vanities were my favorite. The decorations are all they should be- it felt like visiting a family home. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, utensils, salt and pepper, coffee and tea bags. We added our unopened tea bags to the collection for the next family. The large upscale fridge has an ice maker. The dining room table is large with 4 stools right next to it at the breakfast bar. Plenty of toilet paper, hand soap in each of 3 bathrooms, great supply of towels, and really nice beach towels. We had a great family vacation at this home. May 17-22, 2016.

Relaxing, family vacation rental

We had an amazing time at Hale Kai. We are a local family and our family was visiting from nj so this home made the perfect place for a group of 5 adults and 2 children. There was plenty of room for much larger groups too! The kitchen and the master loft were my two favorite rooms of the Hale Kai. The kitchen was so well stocked with every utensil you could need, including a pizza cutter. The master loft is just a surreal setting with the cutest reading nook. The yard is a great size with options for sun and shade. The bench on the deck is a great place to have coffee and catch the sunrise. Our kids loved going for kayak rides to the beach areas and "snorkeling off the kayak".I recommend stopping and grabbing some floats before getting to the house! Everyday we discover something new that we loved, from the driftwood art to the sea glass shadow box! Overall I would recommend this rental to people who want to feel at home, relaxed and happy! Hope we make it back to the Hale Kai with our next visitors!

Amazing!!!!!

The owners description is spot on! The home is located outside the hustle and bustle which is exactly what we were looking for! There isn't a sandy beach in the backyard however everyday we jumped in the water and swam around the corner to the sandy beach were we boogie boarded; the water behind the house was great as it is not deep and we could sit while the kids swam / snorkled. The house is located in an amazing side of town, we loved the fresh fruit stands, food trucks, local dinners, luau/ cultural center and drove just past North Shore for the best sushi ever! The house is clean, beds comfortable (no futons, no pull out couch beds nor twin beds!), roomy (more room than my family of four needed), kitchen & master bath have been updated. Upon returning home, I already miss the sound of the waves that lull you to sleep. I have nothing negative to say, everything was amazing and far surpassed my expectations! As stated by another reviewer, there isn't a shortage of places to rent on Oahu however, this is the only place I will stay when we return (already looking at the calander to go back)! FYI: bring your own hair dryer as there isn't one.

Location, Location, Location

There is no shortage of properties to rent when looking to go to Hawaii. Our search took us to this home based on location to all the North Shore world class sites and right across the street from the world famous Polynesian Culture Center. We took our family of 8 to this home and were not disappointed . The moment we walked in the large front doors we were met with the ocean front view of the beautiful pacific ocean right in our back yard. To be able to walk down the stairs and jump on surf board, paddle board , or kayak which where all provided gave us our own private piece of paradise ! The home is open and well furnished and decorated. Our favorite was the master suite on the second floor with a large balcony and the warm ocean breezes where amazing .The owners were accommodating and very helpful with anything we needed. We will be back !

Kayak, Surfing, and snorkeling out the back door and I could watch my kids from the kitchen window. All new beds and appliances and everything. I cant wait to make my next years trip with Halekai
