About this property

A Back Yard Nest - At The End Of The World

Our apartment is the last in a row of houses in a small closed yard leading out to a dead end street in a private community in Graca. Big, light and comfortable with a big secluded outside space to relax and enjoy the peace in the middle of the city.
The apartment is located in a small private community in the heart of Graca. Bairro Estrela d'Ouro was originally built for the employees of a chocolate factory in the beginning of the twentieth century. The symbol of the community is a five-pointed-star which is visible everywhere in the mosaic of the pavements and most beautifully displayed in three traditional azulejo tile-murals on the walls of three of the houses. The neighborhood offers both a variety of sights within short walking distance and the feeling of living in a village in the middle of a buzzing city.

The wider neighborhood of Graca is stretched out over the top of one of the city’s seven hills only a short downhill walk away from the city center and one hilltop away from the Lisbon Castle. You will find the most breathtaking of Lisbon's many viewpoints “Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte” just a five minute walk up the hill from the apartment and the famous tram # 28 stops just around the corner. Other attractions in the immediate area include the National Pantheon, the Monastery of "São Vicente de Fora" and the famous "Feira da Ladra" flea market held on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Lisbon is everything you have ever heard about it plus all the feelings it evokes when you throw yourself into its open arms. Soft, colorful, chaotic, melancholic, and timidly expressive. Just open the door and it is all around you.

Peaceful retreat on the highest hill of Lisbon

We loved this apartment as well as the surrounding neighborhood of Graca. Located just a few short blocks from a pastry shop, butcher, fruit/vegetable markets, cafes, restaurants, as well as a full supermarket, it was easy to make this a real home for a week. You could easily stay in/near Graca the whole time, with the Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte, the Nossa Senhora da Graça Church and Convent, and the São Jorge Castle, in easy walking distance. If you don't mind hills, you can also easily reach other neighborhoods, including Alfama, on foot. If you do mind hills, or just get tired, you are close to the 28 Tram (though we didn't use it), or can easily access both taxis and Ubers. Our hosts were prompt and helpful both before and during the trip (with restaurant recommendations, airport transfer, and accommodating an earlier-than-expected arrival). The apartment itself is a spacious studio that is perfect for a couple, but can also accommodate up to (4) people. Both the bed and the couch were comfortable. But the highlight of the space is the location at the end of a private row -- it gets excellent light and air all day long, and includes a courtyard with tables and chairs that we used every single day. Finally, the hosts provided several extra touches that made us feel right at home including coffee, fruit, wine, and toiletries. We would most definitely recommend this space to others and will stay here again if we get a chance to return to Lisbon.

Vielen Dank.
