An ancient Trullo surrounded by olive trees with a gorgeous saltwater pool
Trullo della Scrittrice is nestled in an acre of olive and fruit trees within ten minutes of Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica - Ideal for a family or two couples, but not too big for a couple looking for a bit more space.
The Trullo consists of a spacious air-conditioned living room with a well equipped open plan kitchen with two bedrooms and a spacious shower room. The airy Trullo bedroom with its king sized bed is situated in the oldest part of the property beneath the ancient trullo cones. They say sleeping here is a magical experience like being back in the womb, the Lamia bedroom provides two more beds, making the property ideal for a family or friends sharing.
Across the sun drenched terrace is the 11x5 meter saltwater pool. The perfect spot to soak up the sun or take a swim. If that's all too much why not take a book or listen to a podcast under the shady poolside gazebo.
To take away any of the stress from your arrival we provide all your linens and towels and offer a 'Welcome Basket' of local treats, plus all the essentials to get you started - so you can just unwind and relax straight away. If you can drag yourself away from this idyllic spot there are ancient towns, blue flag beaches and WWF nature reserves to explore all less than half an hour away. We have you covered with a comprehensive list of the local sites, restaurants and shops - so you don't even need to do any research!
If you'd like to try some delicious Pugliese food, cooked for you at Trullo della Scrittrice by TV chef and food writer Sophie Grigson contact her on info@trullidelicious.com - and do mention your staying with us at Trullo della Scrittrice - but do book early to avoid disappointment!

The property and the hosts were absolutely amazing! It was our first time staying in Puglia and we couldn't have wished for anything more. David and Fran were outstanding hosts who went out of their way to make sure we had the best holiday. We were 15 minutes from town and had access to everything we needed. The property is first class and fulfilled everything we were looking for. We highly recommend staying there and would recommend the property to anyone looking for an authentic stay close to the outstanding town of Ostuni!
We arrived late afternoon to find our hosts, David and Francesco had stocked the fridge with enough food - wine, pasta, salad (truss tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber), cheese, milk as well as breakfast cereal, biscuits etc for a few days. Our trullo was set in an olive grove along with wild apple and pear trees, and it was so quiet we could hear the bees buzzing around the lavender, climbing roses and jasmine. We felt very spoilt with our own private pool and many different seating areas to enjoy a wine in the evening. It’s only around 10 minutes drive into Ostuni, but a good idea to hire a car so you can explore the nearby towns. We dined in Ostuni one night - there’s heaps of restaurants, but enjoyed also having dinner at home. Enjoyed the whole experience of the trullo and would love to go back sometime. Thank you David and Francesco.
David & Fran communicated promptly during booking process. The welcome pack was nothing like we have seen before. The property and surrounding spaces oozed style and flair. Great location to have peace but 30 minutes max away from many amazing towns.
We had an amazing time in Francesco and David’s trulli house.
The house itself is idyllic along with the garden and pool.
Very well situated for all the local towns and villages.
Also, David and Francesco were fabulous hosts who recommend so many nice places to visit and to eat and drink.
Alles was top, super schoon, zeer complete inventaris.
In 1 woord top!
We spent a week relaxing and completely chilling out. There is everything you need in the property which is very tastefully furnished and wonderfully cool! Outside, the pool is large and beautifully landscaped, and there are lots of different outdoor areas to waft around in. We went to the market, and we spent some evenings strolling round local towns and eating out. Exactly what we had hoped for. David and Francesco are charming hosts.
On reviendra !!!
a very well decorated and functional house with all the necessary equipments, a garden conducive to farniente where everyone can have his own space and privacy , delicious figs you can pick in the trees, a huge piscine and an area from which you can reach easily the hot spots of Puglia. And of course, the kindness of David and Francesco, thanks for taking care, share your addresses and bring these great cakes ☺️We will love to come back 🇮🇹♥️
We had a wonderful stay and David, and Francesco are fantastic hosts. We arrived late to be greeted with a bountiful hamper of local goodies, pastas, sauces, wine and kids treats, which were a godsend for tired little travellers.
Being able to stay in an original Trulo was a real privilege. The property is stunning, inside and out. It’s in a wonderful quiet location, hidden away, but only 15 mins drive from beautiful Ostuni, and the other lovely towns in the Itria Valley are all within an easy drive. We took up their advice on the best places to eat and best beach clubs to visit, which were all great, but If we’d had more time, we were all agreed that we would have liked to have spent even more time just lounging around the pool and cooking fresh fish on the outdoor grill. Next time!!
This is a really special place and we can’t wait to visit again.
What a special week we had at David and Fran’s trullo. The property is beautiful and very, very peaceful, the swimming pool and outside areas are a dream, our only regret is not staying longer!
The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped, we really didn’t want for anything. And the welcome basket is so well thought through, you really don’t need to go to the store!
The hosts are fantastic. I was so grateful how flexible they were as we booked pre Covid, and they were nothing but gracious when we weren’t sure if we could make it. So glad we did!
Can’t recommend the property enough! Thank you David and Francesco!
Beautiful, spotlessly clean, and with a plenty of character
The entire property is superbly equipped, super-clean, and thoughtfully prepared for a relaxing holiday. The kitchen is cozy and well-furnished, rooms breezy and with neat touches all over the place. The (surprisingly large) garden has it all -- from a hammock in the shade to tons of lavender and mint for drinks.
We had a wonderful time and were sorry to have to leave.
David a Francesco were helpful and obliging right from the start and made us feel at home. Thank you!
Perfect villa for sunbathing and reading coupled with interesting days out nearby
Wonderful villa with beautiful pool and outside area - just perfect for sunbathing, relaxing and reading. Property owners David and Francesco were very welcoming; they provided a very helpful welcome basket including many items that meant no big rush to the supermarket for the first night. Everything was very clean and tidy, wifi worked well and neighbourhood quiet.
Around the area there are so many places to visit - do not miss Alberobello with its cute trullo houses (UNESCO site) and Lecce for its Baroque grandeur. We will definitely come back.
This is a gorgeous little trullo, tastefully decorated, with a beautiful saltwater pool, shaded seating area and barbecue.
The trullo is quiet and secluded in a pretty landscaped garden.
David and Francesco are charming hosts and a fount of knowledge on local restaurants (of which there are many) and places to visit. Mid-way between the two bustling towns of Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica, the trullo is well located for shops, cafes, bars etc.
We loved our stay and will definitely return (if they’ll have us).
Just returned from two fantastic weeks at this truli.
The inside is well designed and very traditional, but even better is the outdoor space which is perfect. The pool is a great size with lots of space and the various seating areas flow brilliantly and offer lots of options for sitting outside with a glass of wine or two. Great hosts too who made us feel very well looked after.
Will be returning!

A beautiful stay in Puglia
David and Fran are wonderful, warm hosts who love where they live and are very good at communicating that love. The Trullo that we stayed in was beautifully and thoughtfully presented. We had a really lovely relaxing stay. Whether you want to stay on the property and enjoy the breeze in the olive trees or go to Ostuni or Leche you'll have a lovely time. And incidentally David makes the most fantastic cakes!

A comfortable and peaceful base for our daily expeditions exploring Puglia
Our hosts David and Francesco were very warm and welcoming, and made it easy to settle in quickly. Any small snags were sorted out immediately, as they live next door to the property. The trullo is stylishly presented with a charming mixture of comfortable modern design and rustic antiques, all set in a pretty garden in an olive grove. The salt water swimming pool is truly wonderful, and meticulously maintained. The trullo is in a peaceful location surrounded by a number of similar former farms and holiday properties. The nearest shops, markets and restaurants are in Ostuni, about 15 minutes drive away. The town has a historic walled centre set on the hilltop, full of character with pretty twisty lanes, baroque churches and public squares with small restaurants and shops. It can be "touristy" but look a little harder and there are side streets and hidden corners where you can eat delicious and reasonably priced local food and wine. The town is very typical of many others in the region - Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Cisternina, Lecce and many others, all within an hour or two's drive. The nearest Adriatic coast is only 30 minutes away. The beaches are small and crowded, but there are good seafood restaurants.
Overall, we loved our holiday in Puglia, and Trullo della Scrittice was a charming, comfortable and peaceful base for our daily expeditions out to explore the region, and then home to relax by the pool afterwards. Well done and thank you David and Francesco!

Absoultely perfect
Myself, my husband, my daughter (aged 9) and my son (aged 7) spent the most amazing week here this summer. The trullo was just the most perfect place to spend time together, to have fun, to relax and to enjoy. From the moment we walked in it took our breath away. It was decorated so beautifully, was immaculately clean and it had everything we could possibly need for a family of 4 - from beach towels to cooler bags and ice packs, the owners David and Fran have thought of everything. The welcome basket was wonderfully stocked with fresh food (which was plenty for lunch for a few days!) including a very welcome bottle of wine (for us) and cold lemonade for the children after a tiring journey. The pool was perfect and a great size with walk down steps that make it easy to get in and out of, or to sit on and enjoy a cocktail. The outside seating areas were wonderful for eating breakfast and lunch, a drink before going out for dinner and endless games of Uno before going to bed. It's also a great place to sit and watch the glorious sunset over the trullo. The bbq was great - easy to fire and easy to clean down. David was a fantastic host and being just next door was so helpful. He and Fran gave us great advice of places to visit and restaurants to eat in which they booked for us. One night we had a wonderful local lady cook our dinner which David delivered in a wicker basket - it was absolutely delicious and the children tried everything! The long sandy beaches are only a 20 minute drive away where you can hire sunbeds and there are plenty of bars/restaurants. There are 2 towns (Ostuni and Cegile Massapica) that take 10 minutes to drive to which are stunning and a great evening out for all the family. We all had such a good time and can't wait to come back!

Just Perfect
A perfect place to relax. We stayed for a week in August and from the moment we arrived we knew it would be wonderful. The trulli has a wonderful outside area which has been thought out really well with plenty of seating and places to relax. Everywhere you look you have a lovely restful view from all the plants in the garden and it smells wonderful with sage and lavender and rosemary. The pool is fantastic, our boys loved it. Only 20 minutes from the beaches and 10 minutes from 2 lovely little towns so the location is perfect. David and Francesco are super helpful and we can't wait to come back next year.

About the host
Hosted by David and Francesco
David and Francesco moved to Puglia in 2012 to get away from the hustle and bustle of London and start a new chapter in their lives.
David has years of experience in hospitality and retail, most recently as part owner of the award-winning boutique ‘Black Truffle‘. Francesco has been a stylist, designer and fashion consultant in both London and Rome. When David finally managed to coax Francesco to return to his native Italy, the two brought with them a unique flair for design, which is reflected in the decor at Trullo della Scrittrice and beautifully compliments its original charm.
David and Francesco have worked with people from all over the world, so you will definitely be assured a warm welcome where they will be on hand to make your holiday a memorable one.
Why they chose this property
We moved to Puglia in May 2012 where we bought Casa della Scrittrice which we opened as an intimate B&B the following year. Since then we have spent our time since exploring and discovering all Puglia has to offer. We finally decided it was time to share the secret of this beautiful region with more of you, so when Trullo della Scrittrice came up for sale, just next door, we knew it was the perfect location to be able to make that happen....
What makes this property unique
If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind from a busy hectic life, Trullo della Scrittrice is that place.
Situated in an acre of land in the countryside just outside Ostuni, you will be surrounded by olive trees and gardens with your own private salt water pool.
Just sit back and relax while you soak up the glorious Puglian sunshine or just jump into the pool for a swim or simply to cool off from the summer heat, whichever, this really is the perfect spot!
If you do have to work during your holiday there is still no better place, take out your computer and make use of the fast free WiFi.
In the evening take a cold glass of wine or aperitivo out to the gazebo and unwind while you sit and watch the sky turn from blue to red as the sun sets.... then light up the BBQ or just head out to one of the great local restaurants
