Apuanische Alpen

Fabulous place

Carlo and Anna are brilliant host - nothing was too much trouble. The property was perfect for us, very clean and with everything there that you could possibly need on holiday. Great view and lovely people (not to mention the food - delicious). We would happily stay there again. Regards Helen

Nice Italian appartment with great view

After a long trip we had warm welcome with wine and goodies for the first needs. Carlo and Anna are both very helpful by making reservations or do nice suggestions for trips. The area is really beautiful. So much to do and to see. The time we spent in the house we spent on the nice terrace at the swingcouch and with the great view. A real Italian vibe 🤗🙏

Just fantastic!

We loved our stay in this big vintage house. Everything you needed in the kitchen, big bedrooms, made on arrival, and a treat in the fridge. Anne made us feel so welcome and helped with arranging dinners, making reservations a d showing us beautiful Cascio. You do need a a car to get around but then there are beautiful places to visit like Pisa, Lucca and Florence (by train), and for a sportive visit numerous swimming pools and the Canyon Park.

Favoloso

Posto e persone magnifiche

Andateci appena potete. Mauro

A home from home

This is a beautiful typical Italian home in a great location. It's in an ideal situation for exploring the nearby countryside with a great view of the local mountains from the sunny balcony. Highlights during our short break here included eating in some of the many excellent restaurants in the nearby town (Castelnuovo), hiking in the hills and generally just enjoying the lovely views from the house. The owner could have not been more helpful in terms of his prompt communication and great suggestions for things to do. The house itself was very well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen for self catering and toiletries left for the use of guests. It was like a home from home! I would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to family and friends and would really like to return at some point in the future.

A beautiful place in an astounding spot!

The house sits on the peaceful slopes of a hill overlooking an incredibly beautiful valley. I would spend my time (when not out exploring) sitting on the terrace, just soaking it in. A truly inspiring visit.

Amazing villa, views and location!

So much I wanted to say about this place and can’t do it justice all in one review! The house is laid out perfectly, two single beds in a shared room for my boys and a double bedroom for us with a mountain view from the bed! Very scenic and beautiful. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Even some Limoncello to sample! There is a dish washer but we preferred to wash by hand. The added bonus is that there is a washing machine. I shall know to pack lighter on our next visit! The bathroom is lovely and has a shower-youngest son dislikes showers but we got him in it and actually liked it. Being end of season holiday in October the weather was particularly stormy and Italy was experiencing floods and storm damage in areas, it didn’t put us off. It was warm but wet some days. A waterproof and umbrella is all that’s needed. We wore light layers so we could put on or take off when needed. Coming home to the Villa most evenings in the dark there was sufficient lighting and the warmth of central heating. I would recommend taking a pair of slippers so you don’t get cold feet on the beautiful Italian floors too. I cannot recommend Carlo, Anna and the Villa enough. We shall be back to explore more of what Italy has to offer and do more locally too.

Tuscany half term holiday 2018

A pleasant flight and car journey to this gorgeous Italian home in the mountains. Greeted by a very welcoming Anna who had gone above and beyond by leaving us a delicious home baked cake, bottle of fizz for us and pear juice for the mini ones! Also some much needed milk for a cuppa that went so well with that cake. Carlo Bertoncini (Anna’s nephew) was full of pre holiday advice, reassurance and committed to ensuring we had a great holiday. We pre planned our excursions the night before dependant on the October weather. A little stormy at the beginning of the week but didn’t put us off getting out and exploring. The house itself is a traditional upper level Italian family home contained with everything you need including a terraced balcony with views to die for. There is a property below which is also occupied by family. We drove from our location everyday and made trips to Modena to The Ferrari Museum and also a local walk around the old town stopping for fantastic coffees. This is also the home town of Luciano Pavarotti, His music can be heard in the museum. We drove to Barga the family home town of Paulo Nutini (one of my faves!) the most Scottish town in Italy! We climbed the steps to the top where we saw a military museum and Duomo Di san Cristoforo with spectacular views all around. We then Headed to Lucca the walled city, found nearby street parking and found ourselves walking into Piazza Amfiteatro where an episode of Top Gear had been filmed. Beautiful pasta and wine to be eaten here. We climbed Torre delle Ore (clock tower) and heard them chime right above us at 3pm and also the nearby Torre Guinigi (the tower with trees on top!) some amazing views from both towers. The following day saw us head to Sant’Agata Bolognese to the Lamborghini museum-you might notice a car theme going on here! Mother of two young petrol heads! Also nearby is the Ducati Museum sadly we didn’t get time to visit this year. One of my most memorable and favourites days was in Pisa. Being a typical tourist and visiting the Cathedral, Baptistery and climbing the tower. We then headed up to Mura Di Pisa to climb the walls, 3km long to see the views around us. We ate out during the day and cooked when we got back in the evenings. Our facilities were clean, comfortable and we are definitely returning next year. The service From Carlo and Anna was superb. Our boys said ‘This is the best holiday ever!’ Memories made ❤️👌🏻

The best view ever!

This property sits in the beautiful, lush Tuscan hills with a picture perfect view from the balcony. Fully equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable we spent a lovely week here as our base to visit Pisa, Florence, Lucca and Barga (which was our favorite). Local restaurants within a few kilometers of the house were delicious, surprisingly inexpensive and not to be missed. Highly recommended.

Quiet and relaxing holiday

Traditional villa with a homely feel. Well equipped kitchen and a bonus to have a washing machine. Balcony of a good size was excellent for dining outside and enjoying the wonderful views. Arriving late at night there was a generous gesture from Anna, lovely lemon cake, biscuits and good bottle of red wine. Its good to have an english speaking host to advise on shops, train etc. Thanks for everything Anna. We started our holiday as guests and left as friends. Although a couple of kilometres from Barga we found the location ideal for day trips to Barga, Lucca and Florence. Regards Mark & Audrey Aitken

Relaxing home from home in a fantastic location

We stayed in the apartment for a week with our 3 kids. The location and facilities were excellent. The essentials were there on arrival including a homemade lemon cake - just what was needed after a day traveling! We explored a few places in the area including Lucca (and the bike hire), Florence and the Ferrari museum at Maranello. Anna was on hand to answer any questions and provide local knowledge. A great location and well worth the visit.

Roomy and well equipped base for exploring Tuscany

The apartment is fantastic, with stunning views through most windows, plenty of space to make yourself at home and everything you could possibly need during your stay. The location is perfect. We found it very easy to get about (with a hire car) and did loads of interesting day trips including Florence, Lucca, Barga, Cinque Terre, San Pellegrino in Alpe and Grotta del Vento. There are also plenty of lovely walks to do within a 20 minute drive (we managed two and left our hiking map for future guests to use). Carlo was extremely helpful, and he and Anna went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything that we needed (including (high chair, travel cot etc). I think it goes without saying that the local food was exquisite, but I'll mention it anyway. All of the restaurants that we tried were excellent quality, friendly and accommodating to my wife's gluten intolerance (something that we were worried about with all of the pasta and pizza!). I would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone interested in exploring this gorgeous part of Italy.

Villa Alfredo a picture postcard retreat

The description about the layout and location was accurate and the directions to get there by car were very straight forward. The property is built on two levels with a separate entrance to the upper floor where holiday makers reside. On the lower level there is a family related to the owners of the holiday apartment. The holiday apartment is spacious and offers ample facilities for up to six people. The manager Anna is very pleasant and helpful and lives a very short walking distance away. The holiday apartment has spectacular views of the mountains eastwards and you can see the medieval town of Barga clearly in the distance. The location is excellent for visiting northern Tuscany however you do need a car to get to the smaller towns. It is easy to visit the larger towns such as Lucca and Florence by catching the train from Gallicano/Barga train station five minutes drive away. This is well worth doing. The owners provide a list of local attractions and within the property there is a pack of pamphlets giving guides and tours of local towns. We did a 10 kilometer walk around Gallicano which is well sign posted and there is a fantastic restaurant called Antica Trattoria dell'Eremita which is well worth a visit and the effort to get up there. If you want a taste of real Tuscan life this is the place to stay!

Fantastic Summer Stay in

When we arrived it was after 11pm so was dark and unfamiliar but the directions we were given were fantastic and we had no problem finding the house. When we arrived at the house we were hungry but all shops were closed by the time we arrive. Not to worry though, there was a fresh baked cake and wine to welcome us and fresh bread, milk and cereal among other food items. The house was clean and tidy and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was information provided on where to go sightseeing and how to get there. There were also recommendations for places to eat with directions to each place. We had no problem finding our way about. The grocery store was a 5 minute drive away and there was a small shop to purchase water, beer and snacks just a 5 minute walk from the house. The scenery was breathtaking. All in all a fantastic holiday and I will most definitely be back.

Superb location

Lovely spacious, well maintained villa with a fantastic view over the serchio valley. Local towns Gallicano and castelnuovo do garfagnan easily accessible with some form of transport. Conad supermarket within Gallicano which had all the produce needed. Local restaurants recommended were superb and reasonably priced. Anna (local contact) was extremely helpful and easy to converse with. Only downside is the need for a vehicle for excursions. We hired a car since we knew the villa was out with reasonable walking distance. However we also made use of the train from local stations for longer distances.

Peace and quiet and stunning views.

Having recently stayed at this property for a week, I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to get away for some peace and quiet. The villa sits on a hillside with stunning views from the balcony overlooking the valley and surrounding mountains. It's a short drive from local market towns with fantastic authentic restaurants and bars that are all family friendly and easily accessible. There is a large supermarket nearby for all you might need during your stay. The villa itself is very clean and extremely well equipped for families or friends looking to share a good sized space. It has pretty much everything you could think you'd need for a self catering villa and a few nice extras too. There are two large double rooms, one smaller twin room, a kitchen/dining room and a lounge. There is of course also the terrace to sit out on and take in the stunning views. A car is essential to get around the local market towns although there is a train station near by which will connect you to places like Lucca, Pisa and Florence. It's also worth noting that there are plenty of reachable day trips by car or train. We visited the Lamborghini factory and museum. We even took one out for a drive in the Italian countryside. Ferrari is also a comfortable day trip for a similar experience. If however, you are purely looking for a peaceful, well kept villa with stunning views then look no further than this place. Also worth pointing out that the owners are very helpful and speak fluent Italian or English.

Home from Home in the Hils of Tuscany

The villa has stunning views across the Serchio valley to the distant hills. While a car is essential to get to the property, the local train station allows inexpensive and easy access to the major towns in the area (Lucca, Pusa, Florence). We were met at the villa by Anna who gave us a really warm welcome and useful information about the district. The house was clean, well organised and provided everything we needed for our stay. There are many good restaurants to be found a short drive away together with excellent local produce in the shops. We would recommend exploring the many beautiful hillside villages. For sunseekers, good beaches are only an hour or so away. We have already recommended a stay here to friends and relatives and look forward to our next visit.

Excellent accomodation in stunning Italian setting

Breath-taking views over Tuscan countryside enjoyed from a traditional Italian home. Only 1 hour drive from Pisa Airport and an excellent centre for touring the region of Lucca. A car is essential for touring the surrounding area; we especially liked the villages of Bastiano (en route to the Grotta del Vento) and Castiglione. The Old Town of Barga is certainly worth a visit especially in the evening. Regular trains from Barga are available making Lucca, Florence and Pisa within easy reach. Should anyone be looking for a place to relax and unwind, it would be difficult to find somewhere more perfect. The people in the area were all very friendly, especially Anna who looked after us like family; introduced us to local festivities (Pizza and Donuts) and made herself available to answer our questions at all times. A week was barely long enough to sample all the local bars and restaurants but hopefully we will be able to plan another visit in the near future and once again enjoy fruit picked fresh from the garden.

Why they chose this property

This house has been passed down from my Grandfather who was Knighted by the Italian Government before he died for his services to his country. It is two-story with another family living in the lower floor so the grounds are well kept all year round.

It really is a fantastic location with an amazing view. There is a train station about 8 mins away and from there you can go to all the major Tuscan locations, Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Viareggio etc.

If you want to venture further my Wife and I have driven to Monaco for the weekend from the house. Leave in the morning, be there by lunch time.

What makes this property unique

My aunt is the key holder who previously lived in Scotland (but now in the local village) so offers a fluent English speaking contact.
