Fabulous cottage located in Clappersgate, only a short walk from Ambleside. Kitchen was well appointed with everything needed readily available. Lounge / dining area was size, with plenty of room for the dog to stretch out after our walks. TV wasn’t the easiest to use initially however this did get better with time. Bedroom / bathroom was clean and airy. Heating system was easy to use, even though the pre-set programs were well thought out.
Outside are was nice although didn’t get to use a great deal due to time of year.
One area for review would be the overgrown plants on the left side while accessing the parking area, these were a hindrance while reversing down.
Overall a great bolt hole for discovery of the local area and walks.
Property is set back from the road and just a 10min walk into Ambleside. Walks onto Loughrigg Fell start on a path immediately adjacent to the property.
The cottage is pretty, neat, tidy and well equipped. Very easy to settle into quickly
The property is quaint, but very well equipped. We could not fault it. Very comfortable. It is in a great location to visit the lakes and National Trust Properties.
Several outside areas to sit around the cottage, makes it a great place to relax. We stayed a week and had a fabulous holiday
We loved our stay, the cottage was very clean and cosy it had everything you need plus some.
And clappersgate is a lovely place .
We really enjoyed our week and would love to stay again.
A pleasant 10 min walk to lovely Ambleside and scenic walks easily accessible - cottage was comfortable and inviting - everything had been thought of - home from home
Overall a great property in a great location. So much in the doorstep. Very clean and all amenities available. Definitely recommend and will be back soon.
Azalea Cottage is a charming little cottage. It’s very well equipped with everything you need. The living area is great for two people, the kitchen is modern and the bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. Excellent shower too!
Super dog friendly. Lovely outdoor areas, one of which, a little courtyard off the living room, is enclosed, so safe for dogs. There are fabulous views down to Windermere from one sitting area.
It’s about twenty minutes walk into Ambleside town centre, and ten minutes along the main road down towards the lake where dogs can get a good run. Excellent walk up past the back of the cottage onto Loughrigg Fell and excellent views!
It was a great base and you really don’t need to go far at all for other super walks and some very good restaurants and pubs.
Our only concern was the entrance to the cottage. It’s rather steep which was fine for our car but Gerri g back out onto the busy main road was tricky and needs to be done with care!
Overall a brilliant week away. The hosts provided all the information we needed and we would recommended Azalea Cottage as a great, dog friendly base to stay in the Lakes.
Thank you!
Beautiful little cottage in a great location in the centre of the Lake District. Plenty of walks form the door and only a 15 minute stroll into Ambleside or Waterside.
The cottage is very quaint and has everything you need. It’s well furnished, centrally heated, 3 outdoor seating areas, 3 TV’s and plenty of storage space.
I absolutely loved my stay here and will definitely go back again.
We had a lovely stay in the this quaint cottage with easy access to some great walks with the dog. 15 minutes walk into Ambleside and most places are dog friendly. There are some steep steps to the bedroom which might be difficult for very small children. Cottage is well-equipped with 3 TVs: one in kitchen, one in, bedroom and of course the lounge, and games, dvds and books are provided in lounge if the weather is bad. Be aware that the front seating area isn't fenced if your dog has a tendency to wander, but the back area is fine. The drive is steep so care is needed entering and leaving the property but there is a dedicated parking space in front of the cottage. Overall, we had everything we needed for a welcome week away.
This property was beautifully and sympathetically renovated. The kitchen had everything you needed and more for a week's stay.
There were 3 different seating areas outside, where you can sit enjoy the views and the afternoon sunshine.
Great communication with the owners before, during and after.
Would highly recommend Azalea Cottage
Hele Lake District området er uhyre skønt. Der er mange skønne små byer og som vandreområde er det bare stedet.

Fabulous little cottage
We had a wonderful time staying at Azelea Cottage. It was in easy walking distance to Ambleside although I would suggest taking a small torch if walking back to the cottage in the dark. The cottage was cosy and well equipped.

Well equipped, comfortable with good sitting out facilities. Outside space rather neglected.
Rather difficult approach to the cottage, the car scraped on the road due to the steepness of the drive. However we walked everywhere once we had arrived so only a problem when leaving again. The cottage is in a lovely area and within easy walking distance to Waterhead and Ambleside. Todd Crag is accessible from a path which runs adjacent to the cottage. Fabulous views from the top. We were a little disconcerted to hear obvious signs of life in the roof space during the evening and night but perhaps it should be expected knowing the age of the cottage.
The weather was great, our dogs loved splashing about on the Lakeshore and roaming the hills. We will definitely return to the Lake District.

SUPERB..!
Well what can we say? We had the best week away for my 50th birthday.
On arrival the 1st impression is how tight the drive is! But when you get parked up you realise its worth it! The cottage is just beautiful from the outside with 2 seating areas, one by the door and one in the drive. straight through the living room theres another door which leads to a small private secure courtyard. The interior is very unique, the lounge is on the first floor (which is below ground level) then there a few steps up to the kitchen which is very modern and a lovely place to sit with a drink while making a meal ect. then a few more steps up leads to a spacious bedroom with en suit. The heating is via a combi and it warms up VERY quickly theres also a electric fire in the lounge. We found it was better to set the heating to constant and control it via the thermostat.
The location couldn't be better! approx 10 min stroll (or if you have a dog like ours 30 mins!) into town. You cross a footbridge..turn left and it takes you into Ambleside town centre, right takes you along to the lake or you can go through the fields.. although our fave walk was to come down the cottage drive, go up the track which runs along the side of the cottage.. bit steep and uneven.. but the reward is awesome..
The only negative of our stay is its so expensive.. 2 pints of lager averages £9.80..2 mains £35.. bus to windermere (day rider) just under £17.. but this is the lakes so its to be expected.. just take some provisions. Our fave pub is the Golden Rule.. quiet with a suntrap beer garden and the only foof they do is pork pies at £1.80 delish!
So to sum up you will not be disappointed with this wonderful cottage, we didn't want to come home (and that inc Bert the dog)... its a def for hubbys 50th next year 100%..

Wee Home from Home!
I'll get the weather out the way first. It was awful! There was compensation though.....The Azalea Cottage. Beautiful, clean, warm with everything you'd need to stay in when its wet. TV, DVD player, freeview and broadband included, well equipped kitchen with TV, comfortable en suite bedroom with TV, if there was another room there'd be TV in it! The cottage is very quiet despite being just off the main road. This is ideal for couples and although small, I understand it is a converted stables, I could have quite happily stayed forever. The only thing I would say to anyone staying in future is, watch the driveway. Very tight and difficult to manoeuvre. All in all I'd thoroughly recommend this cottage for comfort and as an ideal central base for the Lakes. 6 stars from me!
