brilliant barn

A beautiful little barn with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including some outside space to sit. It's right next to the Thames Path. Amber was an excellent host, with lots of local knowledge. The barn is tastefully furnished... and an added bonus was the village shop within a minute's walk, selling freshly-baked breakfast treats!

Beauty Spot

Stayed here in order to be close to daughter in Abingdon who had just moved into new home. Lovely spot. Close to Thames. Weather didn't really help us with sight seeing but would like to return in Spring or Summer. Amber was a very generous and kindly hostess. Thoroughly deserves 'super host' status. Thank you.

Great value for money

The barn is well appointed and has everything you could wish for, including a small starter pack of food. Ideally placed for the Thames Path and the village store. Parking in lay-by. A really good place for a holiday for two.

Cottagebewertung

Wonderful and cosy

We had a lovely stay in the barn. The underfloor heating made it so cosy inside and we had everything we needed. We loved the local pubs and Amber was very helpful answering our questions and providing us with information on things to do in the area.

Lovely weekend getaway

The barn was really great - very modern and perfect for a long weekend. We cooked a couple of meals in the kitchen and the location was great to get in to Oxford and also nearby towns. Amber was also really helpful, giving us tips on local walks and places to go.

Very cosy clean property.

Thank you for your hospitality, special the use of the bag pack was a great help. We had a very pleasant stay very nice small garden. The noise from the road in the front was the only minor point. Jack, Netherlands

Not that good, rather depressing

Rather a depressing place with heavy traffic right outside the door creating fumes and noise. Kitchen and bathroom very pokey. Would not stay there again.

Unusual property being open plan but it works.

The property was fairly well equipped for two people. The only downside was the quality of the bath towels. I noticed a few cobwebs here and there which is difficult to keep on top of in a barn however the bedside lights also had cobwebs. Overall the stay was lovely the property is perfectly situated for exploring the area. The directions given were spot on and we found it and parked easily. The owner being next door was helpful too If we had any queries. I would recommend.

A really cosy, quirky property, just what we wanted.

So nice to find somewhere small but perfectly formed! The underfloor heating was great and we had everything we needed - lovely to have the little extras when we arrived: milk, biscuits, eggs etc. We walked the Thamespath to Abingdon but be warned its about 6 miles and took us 2 hours - lovely though. We had several meals at the Barley Mow pub over the bridge and also walked to The Chequers in Burcot - both were nice. The road was absolutely no concern to us, really not that busy or noisy. This break was my boyfriends Christmas present and he was well impressed - thanks so much Amber!!

Delightful! Warm & welcoming.

"The Barn" is undoubtedly among the best self-catering accommodation my wife and I have stayed in on our numerous visits to the UK. We have children (and more importantly, grand-children!) in and around Oxford and SW London, so the location is ideal for us. The Barn is elegant, spacious and very comfortable. [As I write this review I am in two minds to delete it, to try and keep this little gem secret, because I know we will want to return there!] Giles & Celia, Cape Town, South Africa

Beautiful converted barn

The barn had all you could possibly want and was ideal for two. The noisy traffic on the road next to the barn was the only negative. Great spot for exploring the surrounding area and helpful hostess, Amber.

Lovely welcome

Lovely converted barn, with all you need for a short stay. The warm welcome - fresh bread, jam and eggs on the first day - more than made up for the noise from the traffic outside. Area has some good walks, and pretty villages to explore, Oxford is nearby.

Just Perfect!

Penrose Barn is beautifully furnished and well-equipped, it is in a stunning location and Amber's hospitality is exceptional. It was an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside and pretty villages, as well as an easy commute to Oxford. We loved everything about our stay here - just hope we can return one day!

Very nice barn conversion.

Very nicely done barn conversion next door to the owner. Small but completely functional kitchen and a very good bathroom (excellent shower). The road is very busy, especially during commute hours. The village shop is well supplied (bread in the morning is still warm), although the shop keeper is somewhat dour (his wife was much more pleasant) and open long hours. For us, this was very convenient location around family. We made trips to the White Horse, Stratford as well as spending time in Oxford (and family events).
