About this property

La Grange Dordogne - Traditional Barn, PRIVATE HEATED POOL in a Peaceful Hamlet

'La Grange Dordogne' is an old stone barn situated in a small, quiet hamlet and offers a private heated pool, comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests in 2 double bedrooms and a twin.

Unlike many properties we do not charge a separate cleaning or change-over fee.

The house is a 5 minute drive from the pretty bastide town of Beaumont and 25 minutes from Bergerac airport. Beaumont is one of many beautiful local towns with its restaurants and markets, and is in easy reach of the heart of the Dordogne river and chateaux.

There are plenty of night markets, music evenings, and fantastic restaurants all within a few minutes drive. The popular Dordogne river towns such a Beynac and Roque Gageac are about 40 minutes drive away with its wonderful chateaux such as Les Milandes and Castlenaud. After exploring you can come back to the peace and tranquillity of the house and what it has to offer.

A comprehensive (but tidy!) information pack about the house and the area is available in the house to help you decide what you want to do with your time there.

The large, comfortable sitting room has a log burner, Wi-Fi, Samsung Smart TV with Sky Freeview and French Orange TV, DVD player, DVDs, board games and a dining area.

The smart new kitchen is very well equipped and has all the necessary requirements including a new cooker, dishwasher and microwave. Items like washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, cling film, foil and dishwasher tablets are all provided. The farmhouse-style table provides seating for 6 next to the double doors leading out onto the garden, veranda and heated pool.
There is also a separate utility room with an extra fridge freezer and washing machine.

The main bedroom is situated on the ground floor with a beautiful French style double bed with access to the front of the house through multi-opening doors.
This bedroom has its own ensuite - there is a separate toilet along the corridor.
A hairdryer is provided.

Please note, we only supply bath/guest towels but NOT pool towels.

The double bedroom upstairs has a comfortable brass bed with skylights and black out blinds. The twin bedroom also upstairs (also with blackout blinds) shares a shower room with toilet. These rooms have fans and a hairdryer.

Outside space includes a medium size garden with a large covered veranda, perfect for lunches or evening barbecues (charcoal BBQ and utensils provided). There are far reaching, beautiful views of the countryside from the garden and pool area.

Access to the private heated pool is gained through the garden and four wide steps. There is a fence surrounding the pool area, a child proof locking gate and pool alarm. The newly lined pool has steps at the shallow end and has been recently fitted with a heating system (2021) to provide the perfect temperature. The pool is open from Mid-May to Mid-October. It measures 10m x 5m so plenty of room to swim lengths. It has its own comfortable seating area with sofas and plenty of umbrellas for shade and is a perfect spot for sundowners.

The Barn - located between the house and garage - please mind your head going through the low doorway. There is a table tennis/ping-pong table and a range of bikes (and helmets) you can use along with a few bike tools and puimp if needed. Please look after the table and bikes so the next guests can enjoy them.

Great Property with Fab Pool in a Good Location

What a wonderful family break we had at La Grange. A very well equipped, character property that the owners have obviously put a lot of effort into making it so welcoming. The pool is absolutely amazing, we spent hours in there! The loft bedrooms do get very warm, but it was exceptionally hot when we were there and fans are supplied. The area has many lovely towns to explore. An abundance of markets and restaurants. The Monday evening in Beaumont is a must, can also recommend swimming in the lake at ‘Lac de Pombonne’ and canoeing down the Dordogne! Communication with owner Sarah was superb, from booking right through to when we were there, answering any questions we had etc. Also lots of information at the property with things to see and do. Book it, you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic house

We’ve just returned from a great holiday at La Grange. The house is full of character and was a brilliant base for us to explore the region. It has everything you need, and the pool is beautiful. The bedrooms were lovely (as is the rest of the house) - the stairs to the first floor are quirky, but we didn’t have any problems with them. Sarah was absolutely brilliant throughout the process, plenty of comms to advise on things to do and she was very accommodating. We used some local walking trails for mountain biking which was great, and Monpazier is worth a visit. The Monday night at the market place in Beaumont was very nice, and we also took a trip to do some kayaking on the Dordogne. Local supermarket is 6 mins away in the car. We had a fantastic holiday and loved the property and the local area. Highly recommended.

Disappointing!

Positives…kitchen well equipped and functional, covered porch area outside for dining. Sitting room comfortable but very dark. Negatives…pool had not been cleaned full of debris, outside full of weeds, outside furniture tatty and dirty, just very unkempt. Main bedroom was large but bed was a small French double not large as stated, my husband is 6ft3 and couldn’t stretch his legs out. The upstairs can not be called further bedrooms and bathroom as only access was ladder type steps and not suitable for adults, especially with poor mobility conditions, The property was very damp and the smell was over whelming, infact there was a thunderstorm one night and the rain flooded the kitchen and hallway through the French doors even though a neighbour brought around old sheets/ towels for us to put by the door it still flooded through. Outside area accessibility was a nightmare with the steps, this obviously can not be helped but should be mentioned in the advertisement so for anyone with mobility conditions can avoid, if we had known this in advance we wouldn’t have booked this property, I fell down the steps going into the kitchen and cut my elbow. We did contact the owner within a few days and she did address some of the issues, arranged the pool to be cleaned after 6 days of being there and her neighbour weeded the outside area, but this should have been done before we arrived.. we had booked the house for 14 days but left after 6 days.no compensation was offered.

Sarah's Pretty House

The house had everything we could possibly need for a week's holiday. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. Outside was a dream! The pool was an amazing bonus, as the heat wave had really set in when we were there. We ate every meal on the pretty, shady terrace and spent many nice evenings by the pool. It was ideally situated to explore the region's bastide towns and markets, but it was a pleasure to come home to the peaceful hamlet and a lovely swim at the end of a hot day.

Quirky and comfortable

This cottage is well situated for discovering the wonderful Bastide towns in the Dordogne. It is probably more suited to the younger generations as access to the upstairs bedrooms is negotiated by an steepish staircase through what appears to be an enlarged loft hatch with a child's stair gate at the top. There are beams to duck under so agility is required - all in our party were a bit creaky! However, the lounge is comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the ground floor bedroom very spacious and beds/pillows comfortable. The twin bedroom upstairs is suitable for two children and the double bedroom is spacious and comfortable. The upstairs bathroom is large also, with a multi-faceted shower that has water coming from several directions! We loved eating outside on the covered terrace. The swimming pool is a good size and large enough to have a good swim to cool down. It has a cover to help retain the heat at night. The owners had left a comprehensive guide to the area which was most helpful. The Sky TV was a bonus - it meant we didn't miss The Bodyguard! The Internet signal was better than at home. It was a successful holiday and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you to Sarah and Gerry.

Gezellige vakantiewoning

Wonderful Property in Authentic Rural France

PROPERTY: This is a lovely property located in a scenic quiet hamlet just a very short distance from a thriving quaint French village. The house is well appointed and has very much been set up as a "home from home". The kitchen has everything you would need from extensive matching crockery and glasses to accommodate every drink type to plenty of pots pans, utensils and big presentation dishes. The beds are comfortable and all of the furniture is of an excellent standard. Everything works in this house, wiif, TV, DVD, appliances and there are 2 fridge freezers to store plenty of the great local Rose wine! It is a beautiful place to spend time with a comfy living space, sheltered veranda at the back of the property and a beautiful deck (new from the photos) beside the pool with comfy wicker sofas. The whole place was very clean and well maintained to a high standard. LOCATION: Close to Beumont du Perigord (5 min drive), it is a lovely setting, private and quiet with nice surrounding properties. Although Beumont is a small village/ town it has a thriving atmosphere with plenty going on, music events, markets and local amenities as well as a larger Intermarche on the outskirts which has everything you could possibly need. OWNER: Sarah provided prompt and helpful responses to any questions we had prior to booking the property. She was also excellent in providing hints and tips for enjoying our stay and getting the most out of our visit. My twit of a son left his mouth brace behind and within 24hrs of contact Sarah had it located and packaged and on its way back to the UK (excellent service!!!). RECOMMENDATION: I would thoroughly recommend booking this property to friends or relatives. We are a family of 5 and this was perfect for all our needs. The house and pool are great, the location and area are beautiful and dealing with the owner has been easy and a pleasure. What's not to love!

A Charming House in a Lovely Quiet Spot

As part of a trip through the length of France four of us, two couples in our seventies, spent a week at the house. The facilities are excellent including a good size pool with first class pool side lounging kit. Nearby Beaumont, five minutes in the car, is a delightful place as is Bergerac only half an hour away. We had a super time mixing laying around with visiting fine Bastide towns in the area. There are good restaurants in the area and all reasonably priced. The whole stay was first class. The owner takes great care and pride in the house.

Quiet gem - perfect for a family holiday

We spent week in this well equipped holiday home in Blanc near Beaumont du Perigord. Our party include our two boys (youngest 10) and my wife's parents (oldest 80) - so it was Paediatrics and Geriatrics on tour! The house, with it's back garden/ boule court and pool, was an ideal base to explore the interesting local area. There are some super local restaurants from, simple to Michelin standard, and a great local supermarketer for the BBQ nights! Everyone was happy and had a great week.

Beautiful place with a gorgeous pool, perfect for a family getaway

Really enjoyed our stay! Beautiful pool and converted barn with exposed beams with modern accessories. Lovely town and people nearby with lots of stuff on. Only issues we found were that the town was a drive away so someone always had to drive. Would have been nice to have been provided with some more towels and some washing powder but they are small issues. Be careful if you are on the taller side as there are some low ceilings, doors and beams although my 6 foot 3 boyfriend survived without much issue.

A gorgeous French farmhouse

If you want peace and quite and to sample real France, look no further. It's clean, quite and only a short drive away from a quaint market town. The owners have a great in farmhouse guide on "things to do" and restaurant recommendations, just do them! You can just soak up the sun by the pool if you need to relax, it's nice to have quality options when on holiday. I intend to go back year after year. It's genuinely the perfect bolt hole for a family or a romantic retreat.

About the host

Host profile image
We bought ’La Grange’ in March 2013 after spending several holidays with our 2 young daughters in the Dordogne area. It’s a cliché but we totally fell in love with the beauty of the region, its amazing food and wine, the river, the chateaux with their stunning views, night markets and generally the slower pace of life.
The house for us is a gem – we hope it has a homely feel for those who visit and anyone who goes there wants for nothing and enjoys its tranquil and relaxing ambience.

Why they chose this property

Great location for exploring the local area, is about 40 minutes drive to the more popular Dordogne river towns such as Beynac and Roque de Gageac, then you can return to the peaceful environment at the house.
There are many night markets, music nights and local restaurants all within easy reach.
So much to do for all ages.
The house has a friendly feel with love and attention paid to its different areas and decor.

What makes this property unique

Large decking area with outdoor furniture at the side of the heated pool and plenty of large umbrellas for shade in the day and a wonderful space for sundowners!
Newly installed pool heating system (2021) to keep the pool at just the right temperature for you whatever the time of year.
