Beautifully restored light, spacious & well equipped with quality amenities throughout, this peaceful, secluded house is ideal for families and couples wishing to share all that the Dordogne and Aquitaine & Charente have to offer. Large 14 metre child safe gated pool within 25 metres of the house., Coutancie enjoys a south facing sunny aspect nestling in a Perigourdine valley, & the house benefits from beautiful surrounding countryside and easy access to shops, supermarkets, market towns and many authentic French cafes & restaurants. The large patio with BBQ and outside dining table, plus the well equipped kitchen will also help for those days you prefer to just laze by the pool, read and take in the beautiful surroundings. Sleeps 6 plus 2 (2 children on sofa bed/Zbed or cot for under 2s). Please note the pool is not available from October to mid-May . Although unheated, the pool is swimmable from early May through to late October.

Kayak, paddle-board, and river sport enthusiasts are 20 minutes from the historic Abbey and market town of Brantome, or equally from Aubeterre sur Dronne with it's river beaches, voted one of France's top 10 prettiest small towns with charming shops and cobbled streets. For the cyclists, there's over 2000 km of MTB tracks with cycle hire available in Riberac, and for walkers and wildlife connoisseurs, the surrounding forests and lakes have plenty to offer.

In addition to the rivers, there are also lakes at Jemaye and Chandos for watersports, swimming, canoe hire, windsurfing with restaurants, water parks with slides and lots of other kids activities.

A wonderful stay

A wonderful peaceful and relaxing stay with our family. Great views of the countryside from the patio where you can watch the sunset and relax. The house has everything you need and a cool table football for some family competition.

Hidden gem in the Dordogne

A really nice authentic barn with all comfort needed. The surroundings are beautiful, peaceful and quiet and full of sun flower fields. The swimming pool and the petanque field were our favorites! The barn itself is a nice place with a well equipped kitchen, lots of bathrooms and comfortable beds, several games, books and dvds. In the neighbourhood canoe activities in Brantôme, also a nice place to be. Here you can enjoy a nice quiet family time!!

Beautiful house

We enjoyed the stay in the house of Sarah and Bob very much. The house is clean, well equiped, just anything you might need is there. The swimmingpool is nice. It was not too busy, onely two other houses were occuped so not too crowded in the pool. In the opinion of the kids (13 - 16), there was a little lack of things to do in the area, but of course that is a matter of taste. If you like peace and quiet, hiking, nice villages and wide views, this is the place to be!

Super séjour au vert, au calme

Belle prestation et gîte. Si vous souhaitez déconnecter, être au vert avec une belle vue sur la campagne, être au calme; c’est parfait! Nous nous sommes sentis seul car il y avait peu de voisin donc nous avions tout presque pour nous :).

Très agréable séjour

Lieu idyllique pour les personnes cherchant une tranquillité absolue. La piscine était à nous seuls, nous avons eu de la chance car les autres maisons étaient vides. La maison est très jolie et parfaitement fonctionnelle pour une famille ou groupe de 6 personnes. Les équipements sont bien et suffisamment en nombre pour garder un certain confort, plein de jeux de sociétés, un terrain de boule... Très très bon souvenir. Le point d'amélioration serai le chauffage de la piscine. Elle permettrait de rendre le lieu encore plus parfait et il ont parfaitement les conditions pour une installation avec un chauffage solaire garantissant le côté nature du lieu.

Fantastic accommodation, lovely area and great pool

We had a lovely week in this house. The accommodation was perfect for 2 adults and 3 children (including 2 teens). Sarah, the owner, was in touch with us to make sure everything was ok and had thought of everything we could have needed for a perfect holiday, including beach towels. We made good use of the pool which was lovely and so was the view. There is lots to do in the area including kayaking, lake beaches, and some great restaurants nearby. We would certainly consider returning, and would definitely recommend it.

A spacious, comfortable and well equipped house in a beautiful location with stunning views.

We had a wonderful week here exploring the lakes and rivers, shopping in colourful markets, splashing about in the pool and enjoying the wonderful views and starry night skies. The house is really lovely to come home to after a day out in the sun (it was 44 degrees at times) and by the end of the week the children (aged 7 and 4) said it felt like home. We particularly valued the fact it was so well equipped - the beach towels we're so useful - and the large number of bathrooms felt a real luxury. Thank you Sarah and family for making it such a relaxing and memorable stay.

A beautifully-equipped house in a peaceful rural location

We travelled as two adults and two teenage children and this property had everything we needed for a peaceful holiday in a beautiful, tranquil setting. The property is located in a small hamlet with farmland all around and the one permanently-resident farmer has free-range chickens and a lovely friendly dog - which was an added bonus to us. There is an off-road parking spot which is easy to access. The house has absolutely everything we could have hoped for - three large twin rooms with beautiful ensuite bathrooms, tastefully decorated. The main living room and farmhouse-style kitchen are all one room, and there are more than sufficient plates, cups and glasses for a horde or people, let alone our four. There's a good stock of English-language books and DVDs, and a really good TV network with a great selection of English-language channels. Internet is reliable and fast. The mobile phone reception is only moderate, but we were warned about that. The house was spotless on arrival with lots of unexpected extras - enough dishwasher tablets for the whole week, and washing powder, plus basic necessities like oil, salt and pepper and tea. Outside there is a lovely small terrace, overlooking extensive and well-kept lawns. Further on there is an unheated swimming pool, which has a secure fence round it, and a petanque (boules) court. We drove out to go canoeing on a nearby river, and there are plenty of historical sites to see as well. This is unspoiled France, utterly traditional, completely uncrowded. There is a small village about 3 miles away, with a traditional French bakery (complete with traditionally-eccentric opening hours) and a small deli. Within 7 miles there are several small towns with lots of restaurants and a decent-sized supermarket. The other houses in the hamlet are mostly foreign-owned, mostly by English people and not usually let out. So in August we had the entire place to ourselves, which suited us very well. If you are looking for a busy, sociable holiday with lots of other people, this is not your place. But if you want sunflowers, complete silence (apart from the companionable cluck of happy chickens), fresh air, beautiful views and a real rest, come here. This property would suit families of all ages, and is reasonably accessible if you have someone in your party with a mild mobility impairment - it's a very short walk down a gentle slope from the car park to the house, and one of the bedrooms is on the ground floor.

Lovely surroundings, well set up property

We had a great time during our stay. The surrounding countryside is lovely and the property is within driving distance of various villages/towns and amenities. The house was perfect for us and 2 kids, and could comfortably fit more with the additional bedroom we didn't use. A very relaxing holiday!

Lovely home in a central area

Myself, husband and 2 teens spent a fantastic week in this house. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. It was exceptionally clean and had tons of room for our family, it was exactly as advertised. Sarah was wonderful, and answered any questions we had very quickly. There was an excellent package including local information in the house for easy reference, including nearby markets, restaurants and bakeries. We found this helpful and enjoyed seeking out some of these out of the way places we may not have found on our own. The house was spacious and extremely well equipped, there was not a single item we felt we were missing. The home had in floor heating and a wood fire, so in the evenings even in the cool Spring weather the house was very cosy. The internet was fast, much to the delight of my teens and we enjoyed watching one of the many movies available to wind down at night. This location is very quiet with plenty of roads to walk and spectacular views. I have no doubt we will be back in the future. Thanks for introducing us to the Dordogne in the Spring, it was everything we had hoped!

A New Year's Day Home From Home....

Due to a close family member in France being unable to travel to UK we needed somewhere for a family to stay for a week from Boxing Day 2015 that was warm cosy and large enough to accommodate comfortably. We honestly could not have chosen any better! Coutancie has wonderful views especially on crisp winter mornings and those lovely Indian summer afternoons we were so lucky to have. Bedrooms are spacious, en-suites all immaculate. The open plan kitchen and lounge was very comfortable especially around the log burner, however with heating in every room it was lovely and warm. The kitchen has everything you need so no need to pack all those utensils just in case, even has a large cast iron casserole pot that if we had known would have saved a bit of space in our cramped car on the journey down! Apart from a couple of trips to Super U supermarket in Villebois (big supermarket has everything you likely to need inc cheap fuel) we only visited Brantome for lunch as we already knew the area very well. That meant most of our days were spent playing games and boules on the boules court next to the pool. A lovely spot with views across the valley. Sarah was readily available if we needed her but the info provided and directions make the whole trip and stay effortless really. We would recommend this prperty without a moment of hesitation.

A Winter's tale

We were 4 'older' friends needing warmth and comfort during our house hunting trip local to this wonderful property. The underfloor heating and the log burner were perfect during the evenings whilst we used the super wifi to search for properties and book appointments with estate agents. Sadly we did not have enough time to utilise the amazing choice of books and DVDs. The position of the house is perfect and we can imagine in the Summer to be surrounded by such amazing views must be fabulous .We would have no hesitation in recommending the property . It is well equipped ,clean ,comfortable and we could not have chosen better !

Amazing, stunning. We loved it here

What an amazing place. The property itself was spotless very spacious, well decorated and furnished. It was equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. The area itself has spectacular views across the country side. It is sunflower country and I just can't imagine how beautiful it must be, when all the sunflowers are out. The swimming pool was large with plenty of area to lay out on the sunbeds and soak up the sun. I would highly recommend this place to all my friends and look forward to our next visit. Thank you Sarah for all your special touches that made our holiday so complete. The photos do not do this place justice.

What a fantastic place to stay!

As a family, with three children (14, 12 and 9) we have stayed in many types of accommodation in different places. As a family, we all loved Coutancie. It was wonderful the way that it felt like a home, it was as if a good friend had offered the use of their place while they were away. All the practical things were there, but it was the games, the table football, the maps and books and all of those sorts of things that really did make a difference to the feel of the place. It was beautifully furnished, but not in a way that with three children, we worried about damaging. The pool and setting were idyllic - somehow avoiding feeling remote, yet there were times when not a sound could be heard. We really did think Coutancie was wonderful and very much appreciated Sarah's welcoming/friendly texts. As we moved on in our second week, to a somewhat 'soul-less' cottage, it really did highlight what a special place Coutancie was. We are not often inclined to write reviews, but wanted to say on this occasion, how impressed we were.

Peaceful scenic location

The property was clean, comfortable and extremely well- equipped. We loved using the swimming pool and relaxing in such a beautiful, peaceful area. The outside area was a favourite place to enjoy supper and read or play games in the evenings.

Fabulous secluded and off-the-beaten-track area, delightful secluded hamlet with only 6 small houses sharing the child-safe pool and beautiful surrounding countryside. The house is a great space to relax and unwind yet is within 10 minutes of shops and 20 minutes to some great river and beach facilities which both our teenage boys enjoy. Not to mention the 2000km of cycle and footpaths in the Natural Parc Regional de Perigord & Limousin just 15 minutes away.

What makes this property unique

From our experience with previous properties we rented in the past when we were a young family we decided that this house should be a 'turnkey solution' - ie once you're unlocked the door there should be little that you'll to want for, Here you'll enjoy that home from home feeling: fluffy beach towels, quality linens, books, DVDS, indoor & outdoor games (including a full size table football and for the boules pitch a complete boules set), gas BBQ, Bosch fridge freezer, washing machine, coffee machine & a useful grocery starter pack all mean that you shouldn't need to pack too much or have to worry about provisioning too early on in your stay....the antithesis to noisy gites, this is the perfect place for those seeking privacy and tranquillity in comfortable, well-appointed surroundings. There's a reason all our our guest's ratings have been 5 star since we started renting our this lovely , characterful property.
