Our 20th year providing lifelong memories of happy times with family and friends.

Welcome to Porthcothan House, an enchanting Georgian farmhouse in a prime location on the north coast of Cornwall, mid-way between Watergate Bay and Padstow, overlooking Porthcothan Bay, 600m from the beach and a few minutes from the Coast Path, Trevose Golf Club and some of the finest beaches, gardens and restaurants in Cornwall. Lovingly restored and modernised the house is extremely comfortable and well equipped, spacious, light, full of character and has a wonderful atmosphere and views - perfect for a really special holiday at any time of year.

Relax in a blissful Savoir No2 Bed - the original 'Savoy Bed' - and absorb the view of the valley and coast as you ponder the big decisions of the day: do you surf at Constantine, walk some spectacular coastline, play golf or tennis at Trevose, have cream tea at Bedruthan Steps, a treat at Rick Stein’s, Number 6 or Nathan Outlaw's. Or do you simply stroll down for a peaceful day on Porthcothan Beach .. paddling in the sea .. and wiggling your toes in warm sand.

For a wonderful holiday, celebration or relaxing short break – with all your family .. and friends .. or just for two.

Porthcothan House
We had a truly wonderful stay at Porthcothan House. There’s a very peaceful feel about this property and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anybody thinking about a staycation in Cornwall. The owner Tim’s communication was first rate and we wanted for nothing at the property.

Porthcothan House -- our introduction to Cornwall
We were three couples, all seniors, good friends who have traveled together before. All of us enjoyed the visit, found the house very comfortable and appreciated the many great recommendations by Tim, the VRBO host. The coast trail hikes in both directions were beautiful, and two evenings' catering by Georgie at Kaloura's Kitchen was fantastic.

Our new favourite place
A truly beautiful house in a perfect location. The house is a perfect blend of old and new, with plenty of period features sensitively preserved alongside all the modern creature comforts. Very well equipped kitchen with a huge Aga at its heart, opening into the great family dining room, which then opens into the pretty well maintained walled garden, you hardly need the other three beautifully furnished reception rooms! We all enjoyed our stay immensely and the owner was very responsive and super helpful at all times. Thank you - we’ll be back next year!

Fabulous house and location
We had a wonderful two week stay in Porthcothan House. The house is very spacious and homely, with all we wanted and needed. The light and the views are glorious. The grounds were ample for, at one point, eleven of us plus two dogs - to play frisbee, badminton and sunbathe. Easy walking distance to the local beech plus short driving distance to many others (dependent on whim and wind for surfing). Many good restaurants again within a short hop in the car plus a very nice pub two minutes walk from the house. Tim and Jane introduced us to the house and how it worked and were there when on one occasion we needed their help. Absolutely fabulous; we would love stay stay again.

Perfect house
This was the perfect property for a relaxing holiday with an extended family group. It is exceptionally well equipped and very comfortable with plenty of space to spread out. The location is great with fantastic views. Only short work walk to Porthcothan beach and a short drive to Padstow and other lovely beaches. Tim, the owner could not have been more helpful and welcoming.

Beautiful house, stunning scenery, great host!
Wow what a fantastic week we've just had! The house is just as beautiful as in the photos and easily housed all three generations of our family. The beds are super comfortable, lots of bathrooms and we even learned to cook on an Aga! Tim was a wonderful host, very welcoming and thoughtful. Thank you for a lovely week and for arranging the sunshine too :)

Fabulous house
Wonderful period property that really felt like home. Every detail was provided from quality wine glasses to two toasters and the owner helped us plan our stay and find restauatnts and dog boarders. Excellent location close to the beautiful and in my view probably underrated Portcothan beach. Couldn't fault it.

St Merryn
The property was very spacious, fascinating and very well equipped. It was extremely comfortable with lovely 100% cotton sheets, hot showers and dog friendly. There were plenty of sitting rooms - for tv, reading or chatting. Sea views from virtually all the windows and a short off-road walk down to the beach. Coastal walks fabulous.

A wonderful house in a beautiful cove.
We were greeted most warmly by Tim, who introduced us to his wonderful house, which was beautifully presented and offered everything we needed for a really great family holiday. Our party spanned 4 generations and it suited all our needs. Porthcothan cove was a great hit with our grandson and all our needs were met within a few mile range of the house. We were able to visit many local locations, enjoyed cycling the Camel trail and also coastal walks. Perfect for all our family.

Wonderful house
We spent New year at Porthcothan House with our kids and friends. The house is warm and generously sized with incredibly comfy beds and great cooking facilities. The owners have renovated this Georgian house beautifully, retaining the proportions of the large rooms. Teenagers had their own screen zone while the adults hunkered down by the fire with jigsaws and books, and everone congregated around the massive dining table for meals cooked on the Aga. A footpath to the beach meant we could take the kids down to build sandcastles without walking on the road, while the hardier adults swam daily (in wetsuits) and everone enjoyed the dramatic clifftop walks. I would recommend this wonderful house and hope we will return.

Impressive Accommodation In a Beautiful Coastal Location
Just a spent a week with 6 adults and 5 kids at Porthcothan House over New Year, . It's an impressive, beautifully restored 6 bedroom house set back from the road behind private gates and only a short walk down to a stunning beach at Porthcothan. The beach comes into its own at low tide when a myriad of caves and coves become accessible and you get the sense of the scale and rugged beauty of the Cornish coastline. Owner Tim met us on arrival (those who had made it through snow!) to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. The house has a spacious open kitchen, dining room, and conservatory area with an Aga oven, though we ended up mostly using the Aga hobs. The two lounge areas gave us a space to break out into a multimedia room - essential PlayStations for the teenagers plugged into the TV, and a drawing room, for piece, quiet and a little guitar strumming. The bedrooms each had amazing bespoke beds as designed for the Savoy which gave us a long peaceful nights sleep, perhaps aided a little by the New Year food and drink. All in all an amazing place that exceeded everyone's expectations and somewhere definitely to come back to.

Why they chose this property

Instantly fell for the wonderful proportions, light and atmosphere of the house, its position and views and the sound of sea waves on the shore - despite its sad condition after 70 years of neglect.

What makes this property unique

Faithfully restored and modernised over 6 years to its true wonder for all to celebrate, enjoy and remember on special family occasions. Guests often comment on the light, space and wonderful atmosphere of the house and feel instantly at home. Others love the views, walks, local beaches and waking to the sound of the sea. Others still do so much we wonder if they relax at all; yet they keep coming back - for what will be their 9th year!
