We had a wonderful stay at Buttercrag Cottage. The cottage was spacious and clean, and the location was perfect. As noted in the description it is very close to the center of town, a very short walk to all the shops and restaurants, and just around the corner from the Coop for groceries. But being tucked away behind things next to the river also makes it very quiet and peaceful. There is parking for three cars and a private outdoor seating area overlooking the river. From the house itself you almost feel like you are out in the country. The cottage has a large, well equipped kitchen and a sitting room on the ground floor. The first floor has two bedrooms (one double bed and one set of bunk beds) and a bath. As noted in the description, there is a third bedroom and bath on the second floor up a steep flight of steps. I had no problems with the steps but caution is advised for anyone with mobility issues. The second floor room itself is beautiful and spacious with two beds and a large bath. With a full kitchen and laundry facilities you could easily host a large group very cheaply.Martin was an excellent host and responded quickly with any questions. Check in and check out were very easy and simple. One nice aspect of staying in Grasmere is that there were tons of hikes within an easy walk of the cottage. We only moved the car a few times while we were there and mostly just enjoyed the village and the surrounding countryside. We will definitely return when we get a chance.
We had a great stay at this property in Grasmere. The owner was very helpful and fast to reply to our enquiry. The property was in a perfect location for lovely local walks in the beautiful area of Grasmere, Silver How and Rydal, plus very handy for trips to local shops and for meals out. Property was well equipped, with more space than we expected from the listing pictures. Also lovely and warm with cosy gas fire and lots of hot water for post-fell walks.
Lovely stay in this characterful, cosy Cottage. Beautiful location beside the river and right in the heart of this glorious Lakeland village. Perfect for walking on nearby fells and around the lake. Warm welcome from Martin and on hand if needed.
Our stay was wonderful. The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed. We loved sitting outside by the river. It was also really central but private and peaceful. I'm so pleased we stayed there and we had a wonderful holiday in Grasmere. Thank you very much, we hope to come again.
A really well presented and positioned accommodation.
Beautiful surroundings.
Friendly and helpful host and deceptively spacious cottage.
We had very relaxed stay here.
Ideal for spending time in and around Grasmere; the river path is on the doorstep. The host was very responsive and available if we needed him. Be aware that the master bedroom, with the shower, is in the attic up a steep set of stairs.
No problems at all in communication and location is fantastic.
Property was very well equipped, and garden area was private despite the central location.
The property is a little dated, and a couple of things weren’t working like the jacuzzi bath and hob ignition but they could easily be rectified.
I would also recommend replacing the wardrobe in the bunk bed room with a tall set of drawers or something more practical.
Overall the cottage and the week was very enjoyable and the access to the local hotel pool was an excellent added extra. Thanks again to Martin
We had a wonderful week staying in this lovely cottage situated in the centre of Grasmere, yet in a quiet and relaxing spot. The cottage was exactly what we wanted for our stay and was clean and comfortable. The stair case to the top bedroom with en suite bath and shower was a little steep but this wasn't a problem for us. Unfortunately there was no access to the swimming pool during our stay, however we were lucky enough to have good weather and swam in the lake to cool off. Grasmere is the perfect base for exploring the Lakes and we had some fantastic days out without having to drive too far at all. Good public transport as well. Would recommend.
This cottage can best be described as adequate. The decor is a little tired, there was no access to any pool (covid restrictions) and if you have any issues with stairs then you should know if you want a shower it is in the attic, up a very steep set of stairs. The large jacuzzi-type bath on the first floor doesn't work. However, the owner was very friendly and helpful and the location is perfect, wifi is ok.
Spent a weekend here with friends. The cottage was very well equipped, incredibly clean and warm. Great as we stayed in January! Martin, the owner popped by to see if everything was ok which was a nice touch.
It was situated in the centre of the village close to local amenities but was very quiet. Lovely river views from the windows, sitting out area and walks nearby.
Good to have 2 bathrooms , although only one shower.
We would return. Thank you so much for giving us a late check out without us asking. It was gratefully accepted.

Great property, centrally located.
A cracking cottage in the middle of Grasmere, good parking and the ability to charge my car. The owner was nice and friendly, didn't need to contact him during our stay but saw him in his shop and had a quick chat. The cottage was well equipped for our needs. It would be a nice idea to have a visitors book just to find out what others thought of places to eat and what to do locally without driving. But FYI Easedale Tarn was a nice walk but we preferred Alcock Tarn a little bit tougher with some lovely views. A genuinely nice place to stay.

Really lovely cottage
The location is perfect - very central to Grasmere shops, restaurants and places of interest, but just off the main street so quiet and peaceful. Being by the river with a south-eastern facing 'terrace' is also great, especially for that cup of coffee in the morning.
We found the rooms worked well for our family group of 5 adults, and all the facilities were great - dishwasher always really appreciated on holiday!
Wonderful walks from the door, too.
Enjoyed meeting our landlord, Martin, who was very helpful.
Highly recommended, and we are very likely indeed to be back.

Beautiful cottage central in town
Well what can I say don't want to broadcast but this is such a little gem of a cottage as we'd love to go back very central to some fantastic walks ,at the side of the river which the children loved paddling and saw loads of wildlife, red squirrels ,deers . The cottage itself was very spacious for the two families ,never went out to eat because we had such a lovely area at the side of the river to eat . We went to the pool at the Hotel round the corner which was lovely . The owner popped in to see if everything was okay which was a nice touch .

ideally situated, level walk. Needs a little updating. Needs a clean.
Lovely position right next to the river. Owner very friendly & lives in the village which is handy. Very central to Grasmere so ideal for walks, restaurants, pubs. Fabulous views from every window in the property. Plenty of parking.

Charming cottage in Grasmere
We spent a lovely 3 days at the charming Buttercrag Cottage with friends, and enjoyed the 2 walks we had planned to do. The cottage was cosy and big enough for the 2 families - the kids shared the bunk bed room. We ate out so didn't use the kitchen to its full but we found everything we needed for our short stay. An extra special thank you to Martin for baling us out with jumpleads on our departure day!

Brilliant Location
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. It was perfect for what we needed it for, we went to a wedding at the Dale Lodge, so it was just a short walk to the location. We would like to go back in the summer because the cottage is right next to the river and it's nice to watch people in their canoes go by. It also has a lovely view of the mountains and around. Definitely would recommend. Thank you Guys
