Thimble Cottage
The cottage is a lovely, cosy home from home down by the harbour. The whole holiday was just perfect, couldn't have asked for more. The kitchen has everything you need to cater for yourself and there are great places to eat in the village. This was my wife's first time coming to England, Cornwall and Mevagissey, she totally fell in love with the area and we will be back soon. Fiona, the host, is easy to communicate with and left a very extensive welcome pack of information in the cottage. The walks, beaches and gardens all close by are a delight and we were able to watch dolphins and seals from the coastal paths. On the high tide, we loved watching the fishing boats coming home with fresh fish, all available in the village. We highly recommend Thimble cottage for your perfect Cornish vacation.

Lovely cottage within walking distance of everything in Mevagissey
Had a great stay here. Cottage was clean and well maintained. You can walk everywhere from here, but as in most Cornish fishing villages the streets are steep. Anyone with mobility issues may struggle. Due to Covid issues it was not easy to get in some of the local pubs and restaurants. We had a great meal in the Salamander which I would recommend. We would gladly stay here again.

Thimble Cottage
Delightful cottage with wonderful views from upstairs over Mevagissey harbour (a highlight for me) Very comfortable and it had everything you could need, felt straight at home. Fiona was a great host and from booking to leaving was always very helpful. Mevagissey is a beautiful place to stay but also a great base for exploring and there is plenty to see and do. Highly recommend!

Cosy cottage
We had a lovely stay in Mevagissey despite the weather! The cottage is in a good location overlooking the harbour, although this does mean there's no vehicle access which makes getting luggage in and out tricky. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to self cater. Although we enjoyed our stay I wouldn't recommend it for families with young children as it's not very toddler friendly. Good for couples or families with older children.

Lovely stylish cottage in a great location
Lovely quaint cottage with lots of cute decorative touches and shabby chic decor which really made it feel very homely. Mevagissey was great and had good community feeling even though obviously has lots of visitors at this time of year. Lots of recommendations of things to do, places to visit and suggested restaurants etc We did some great walks on the coastal path and visited Heligan, Fowey and Eden and enjoyed some great meals out (including the Portuguese restaurant as recommended!) All in all a brilliant holiday so thanks for everything.

Lovely, well-equipped cottage in a great location.
We stayed in July 2017, and Thimble Cottage had everything we needed: from a variety of tv options (for the almost inevitable rainy day!); to a lovely outdoor space; a comfy lounge for relaxing; and (a big plus for my partner) good quality toiletries! It was well-maintained, spotless (very important to us!) and with pretty much every convenience you could need. I'm not even marking it down for the low beams upstairs, which my head never really got used to! The location is perfect for a quiet Cornish break, and there are plenty of good places to eat. You can do some decent walks right from the door, including Heligan Gardens (about 40 mins gentle strolling). All in all, we wouldn't look at anywhere else in Mevagissey! Steve & Lisa

Dream cottage in Mevagissey
Everything about this cottage, and what the visitor might need, has been carefully thought through and organised. The property description is accurate and the cottage is as well designed and decorated as it looks in the photographs: bright, cheerful and comfortable. Fiona was very helpful with queries prior to staying. Dropping off luggage and then taking the car to the main car park for the reserved parking space went without a hitch. When we arrived, the cottage was immaculately clean; everything worked and was exactly as described. We had stopped off at a supermarket in St Austell to stock up on our way down, but after that we were able to get everything we needed from the shops in Mevagissey; we ate in the cottage mostly but if you want to eat out there are pubs, cafes and restaurants in Mevagissey to suit every taste and budget. Fiona has put together a wealth of information in the 'house book' about places to visit: useful if you have kids (beaches) or are just visiting as a couple (heritage, gardens, etc.). There are also helpful recommendations and comments in the Visitors' Book. Highlights of our week in the cottage were several walks along nearby parts of the spectacular south west coastal path, Fowey (by ferry from Mevagissey), Lanhydrock house and gardens, Porthluny beach and walking to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The romantic story of the rediscovery of the gardens has led to Heligan becoming such a popular destination that, although the gardens are beautiful and interesting, the compromises needed to manage the sheer number of visitors mean there is little romance and nothing "lost" about them any more. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thimble cottage - having it to come back to at the end of the day compensated for some poor weather - and would wholeheartedly recommend it to friends and relatives.

Holiday by the Harbour
We have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thimble Cottage. It is beautifully designed and perfectly appointed, just a few hop and skips down to the bustling Meva harbour and within a few minutes drive of some beautiful beaches and villages. My teenage Daughters were very well catered for. The cottage has all mod cons and we had everything we needed in great comfort. The little sun trap courtyard is perfect for a couple of "sharpeners" before heading out for dinner or preparing freshly bought fish in the cute kitchen with spanking new oven. We were blessed with glorious weather and spent many an hour watching the fishermen hauling their catch onto the quayside and spying the comings and goings from the picture windows in the bedrooms. Fiona is a super host, answering all our pre-stay questions swiftly and dealing with the booking process painlessly. Parking was a doddle..just drop luggage , shopping etc at the Fountains Inn, then round the one way system to the secure overnight car park..complete peace of mind and parking permit all included! We enjoyed living like a local. Very clean and cosy with super comfy beds and modern bathroom with fab shower, we highly recommend Thimble Cottage and look forward to visiting again soon. ps. Fiona has a file of local recommendations in her beautifully beamed sitting room..may we add Carlyon Beach. It has just been spruced up with a Sam's bar, fish cafe with daily invited pop up eateries, Calypso music, beach frisbee pitch, safe bathing and a vast sandy beach, We went every day and my girls loved it..and just a 12 mins drive from Thimble!

Thimble Cottage Mevagissey
We have just returned from a blissful week in the most gorgeous cottage in lovely Mevagissey. There was much 'wowing' as we entered the cottage and explored its various rooms, nooks and crannies. It is not only extremely tastefully decorated, but also maintained to a very high level. It was spotless and we found everything we wanted in the kitchen and all other rooms. Relaxation from Day 1! We particularly liked watching the boats come in from the window on the top floor - there are even binoculars supplied by the owner! The area is magnificent for walking and being outside. We travelled by train and didn't miss having a car at all. Local buses were reliable and we loved trekking along the coastal path and taking ferries. Highlights of our holiday - and there were many - was our trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and hiring mountain bikes from a local village. So many beautiful off-road paths to explore. It was a great week and a real treat to spend a holiday in this country. We have missed Thimble Cottage this week and have a fabulous collection of memories. We would recommend it to all our friends.

A hidden gem
The cottage is a hidden gem that allows you to get away from it all. It has all the modern conveniences you would need including the dreaded Wi-Fi. It is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs and steps. The terrace out the back has the sun all day long and is a great place to chill with a good book and cold beer or glass of wine. The local hostelries are friendly and welcoming with a plentiful of selection of food, so driving is minimal. There is a local beach and leisure centre which is on the main road into Mevvy, 5 minute drive. This is particularly helpful if you have children, our granddaughter loved it. There are plenty of local craft shops in Mevvy to get those must have Cornish souvenirs. But if you feel the need for the traditional shopping St Austell is only15 minutes away and there are many of the other popular Cornish holiday venues no more than an hour's drive away, holiday traffic permitting. We wanted a quiet week away in comfortable and friendly surroundings and that is exactly what we got. Having lived in the South West for 30 years previously we did not wonder too far as Mevvy and Thimble Cottage had everything we needed.

Stylish, ideally located.
Thimble cottage is a stylish gem in the heart of Mevagissey. Set one row back from the harbour side it was a tranquil haven in the heart of the village with excellent views. We had such a relaxing time there. The back garden was a sheltered sun trap, great for breakfast and BBQs. The immaculate inside had everything we could need and was so comfortable. Mevagissey has a lovely mix of locals and visitors, great little shops and a huge choice of places to eat, all easy walk from Thimble. The coast path is just around the corner, 5 minutes to the beach. Fiona the owner was so helpful, the car park guys welcoming and the short walk added to the escapism. Can't wait to stay there again.

A wonderful relaxing stay in a beautiful cottage
We have been to thimble cottage twice now, once in September 2015 and again in February 2016. It was a chance find on owners direct and we found to our delight an excellent find. The cottage is cosy, well maintained and in a lovely setting. Having stayed in summer and winter I can recommend both. The owners go out of their way to be helpful and welcoming that follows through the booking process, information giving and arrival at a very welcoming accommodation. Everything in the cottage is of an excellent standard, especially the beds and bedding with the cottage being equipped with everything that you require. This was a lovely find that we can see ourselves returning to time and time again. Thanks Fiona for a lovely stay enabling us in having a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Super cottage, perfectly located.
Thimble is a super little place. Immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and with everything you could wish for. We were there in February and the log burner kept us cosy all weekend with no need to use the radiators in the top floor bedrooms. Fiona is attentive and helpful beforehand and during and Mevagissey is a lovely little friendly village with everything on hand. We had a lovely few days and would highly recommend it.

About the host

Hosted by Fiona Drewett

Host profile image
My husband Alan and myself Fiona bought this property in 2007 after falling in love with Cornwall. We feel that Mevagissey is a thriving fishing harbour with a great mix of locals, fishermen and second home owners, so something always going on even in Winter.
We completely renovated, but keeping it all in character, Thimble Cottage. 2 new staircases, re plastering, electrics, new bathroom, kitchen, courtyard garden and fully furnished it ourselves, which made walking EVERYTHING, up from The Fountain Inn! We have been renting it with a 4 * letting agent but have now decided to do it ourselves, so gives us a more personal touch with our guests. We spent as much time in Thimble Cottage as possible so hopefully home from home.

Why they chose this property

We love....Driving up from Pentwean, the views are amazing, something very special about coming into Mevagissey...The coastal walks to Chapel point, especially one morning at 6am to watch a couple of dolphins playing in the sea from the cliff top between Portmellon to Chapel point. We love having sea views and a sun trap garden, based in the heart of the harbour, We love being able to leave the car in the car park for a few days, walk to our favourite spots, have breakfast at Heligan, eat at the many restaurants, pick up groceries all from the village, take the Fowey ferry, and all without the car! or in Winter snuggle up in front of the log burner after a wild and magical walk along the coastal path.

What makes this property unique

Thimble Cottage is in an unique position affording sea views and a suntrap courtyard, not many harbourside properties have outside space.
This is a traditional fishermen's cottage that has been fully restored, it is not a modern house! It is in a conservation area and listed in areas of outstanding beauty( AONB)
Just a minutes walk into the Harbour, to the tea shop, restaurants, antique & curio shops.
Being I row back, it offers a good degree of privacy
Although fully renovated in 2007, it has been updated again in 2015 to keep it contemporary.
2015 new double glazed box sash & French windows.
its very quiet in a traffic free area, apart from the chattering seagulls.
As a working harbour there are seagulls!
