About this property

Family friendly accommodation overlooking stream and beautiful garden

Beautiful stone built coach house, nestling at the foot of the Mendips with many wonderful walks straight from the door. The Coach House was built in 2012 in the grounds of the owners' own home, but far enough away, so privacy is always maintained although we are more than happy to help with any queries that our guests may have.
The front door opens onto a small entrance hall containing a sink (for washing those muddy boots after walks) and a washing machine, together with ample storage cupboards containing iron, ironing board and pegs for the clothes line just outside the coach house. There is also a small freezer in this area for guests' use. The rest of the accommodation is on the first floor, reached by an internal staircase. There are two bedrooms containing comfy beds, one with a king size bed and a wash hand basin and the other with two single beds. There are blackout blinds in both bedrooms ( as well as curtains) for a great night's sleep. There is a stylish shower room with velux window and a large beamed living area containing fully equipped modern kitchen including Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother and sitting area with picture window overlooking the beautiful garden.
Outside, next to the Coach House, there is a wooden table and chairs (and parasol) where you can enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine, New this year is a lovely wooden swing seat, to while away the hours with a good book! This seating area is situated next to the Langford Brook, which runs through the garden. There is a wooden bridge giving immediate access to the garden and guests are very welcome to explore the garden, and the few chickens and ducks are always happy to be thrown your food scraps! When available, guests may collect the eggs.
There is a table tennis table in the covered area next to the door to the Coach House, which guests are welcome to use.
There is ample parking space next to the Coach House. The property is situated in Lower Langford, a pretty village with amenities such as a local, popular, pub and a well-stocked supermarket and petrol station, both of which are open 24 hours a day.
There are the historic cities of Bristol, Bath and Wells, all within 45 minutes drive or less, with their many attractions.
For those with children, there are many child friendly visitor attractions in the area, such as Court Farm Animal Park, or Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.
Because we live nearby, we are often on hand to answer any queries you may have, and to suggest places to visit and things to do. If, however, you prefer to make your own discoveries, we will not intrude.
We want you to have a wonderful time in this idyllic part of Somerset.

Fantastic place to stay
Wonderful property and a beautiful garden to relax in. We had a great short stay (would have liked much longer). Fantastic location for Weston/bristol/glstonbury/wells/bath etc. Also great to have such a short walk to a nice pub (another nights stay and we would have loved to have eaten there) brilliant host, many thanks. We hope to come back.

Great location and flexible host
I had a sudden need to stay in the area and the host was super flexible and arranged a same-day booking. The house was delightful with a lovely set of welcome goodies and a wonderful view of an expansive back yard. Being just a short walk from a classic British pub was also a nice benefit!

Fantastic property, excellent location
Really enjoyed our holiday in Somerset. The Old Coach House is well appointed and located in a lovely garden. Liz and Rick were fantastic hosts and the supplies on arrival were much appreciated. Lower Langford proved to be an excellent base for exploring Somerset and Bath. I would heartfully recommend.

A little gem
Well equipped spotless accommodation. As the living space is on the first floor we had glorious views through the tree canopy into the garden which we were able to wander around. Easy parking and fabulous pub within a two minute walk. Welcome pack and the delivery of six eggs from Liz's chickens were a nice touch. Lovely stay.

Incredible find!
This may be the best property on VRBO! We had an incredible 4 night stay at the Coach House. It's well laid out; beds, pillows, and linens are all very comfortable, and everything is provided that you could possibly need. Liz is an incredibly attentive, kind, and thoughtful host. She had fresh muffins, eggs and cucumbers, waiting when we arrived, as well as milk and cookies for the girls and a bottle of wine for my husband and me! The gardens and property are beautiful and quiet. It was truly a restorative oasis for us and a wonderful country break before we headed to London. You can walk to grocery store and a lovely inn with amazing food, and Liz provides recommendations for anything you could need. You will not find a better place anywhere!

The Coach House is a beautiful place to stay. Wonderful views, Comfortable beds and so well equipped
We came to the Coach House for a family get together. The Coach House made our time very special. It was such a lovely place to come back to after our days out. The views and the cosy feel, just perfect. Liz and Rick were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Even to the wonderful welcome goodies. I really would like to come back and would for sure recommend .

Beautiful countryside cottage
We had the most wonderful 6 days staying at the Coach House. The accommodation was spotless, cosy and very well equipped and is situated in a picturesque village with gorgeous views through the huge windows onto the owners lovely garden (which you are welcome to explore). It is a great area for walking and is easily accessible (by car) for trips to Bath, Bristol, Wells and Cheddar Gorge. Liz and Rick are very friendly and on hand if need be. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future.

Wonderful coach house, amazing hosts
This is a truly wonderful place to stay in a very tastefully decorated and well-equipped coach house, with beautiful gardens. There is a very good, recently renovated pub within 4 minutes' walk (not to mention beer and cider breweries very nearby), a supermarket 15 minutes' walk away and plenty to see and do within around a half hour's drive: beaches, Cheddar Gorge, Bristol, Bath, Wells. Liz, the host, is so thoughtful and we really didn't want to leave. Top marks!

Picture perfect rural English setting
From the warm welcome, to the clean, spacious apartment, to the gorgeous garden view and quiet evenings our stay couldn't have been more pleasant. Liz was very helpful with our market needs, directions to different sites or any other request, and Rick's instructions manual was well laid out for us "out-of-towners" to understand everything from stove to washer. This was a good location to make day trips into Bristol and Wales, while still having the option to enjoy the peaceful pleasant country. We loved staying here and hope to come back again as we really didn't see enough of the area.

Beautiful house with a stunning garden
A beautiful house that has everything you need for a self catering holiday. Lovely welcome gifts which were you appreciated. Lovely to have everything you needed left to use. Lovely owners who were very helpful advising on parking in Bristol and Bath. The house was a great base to travel to all the places we wanted to go. The garden is a great space if you children with you. We loved sitting by the beck, it was a great place to chill. Fab place to stay if you get the chance to go

A very special place
Had a great stay at The Coach House. The property was very clean, comfortable and really well equipped. The beds were also very comfortable. Although a 2 bed property, it feels spacious with the high ceilings and we particularly loved the big window in the open plan living area which overlooked the beautiful garden. My son loved collecting eggs from the chickens and playing table tennis in the evenings. The property offers a great base for exploring the local area and attractions. Communication with the owner was excellent before and during our stay, we are so pleased that we chose this property for our escape to the countryside and we would not hesitate to return here in the future.

Excellent Place
Very nice place. Good location. A very well maintained property, clean and well equipped. The garden is huge and the garage has games for the garden and beach things. There is a table tennis table in the garage which is a good bonus. Our 8 year old daughter loved checking the chickens are collecting eggs. The coach house is well located for the Mendip Hills, Crook Peak, Strawberry Line, cheddar Gorge, Cheddar Reservoir, Mendip Adventure centre and lots of nice walks. We had a lovely time and would visit again/recommend. Liz is a very nice person and was very friendly and kind.

Mendip Cottage
This is the coziest place. Absolutely loved the big wall of windows letting in natural light and overlooking a beautiful open garden. Super clean and well stocked. I have a thing about dull kitchen knives-useless and annoying. Not the case here, I was surprised to have an an array of nicely sharpened knives. The hosts had left us fresh eggs from their own chickens, along with all the fixings for an English breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.

Idyllic Country House
A beautiful property, very well decorated, everything you need at the touch of a button and such fantastic scenery to accompany it; this house was everything we needed for a family get away. From the warm welcome with home-cooked goodies, to the lands this building sat in - it was all we needed for our home-away-from-home over Easter. The kids were very excited with the hideaways in the bedroom, likewise the adults were excited to see them all over the house, lots of little gems everywhere you look. This location was also fantastic to branch out from, Weston 10 miles away, Puxton and Bristol also, we had a wonderful time exploring it all. Thumbs up. The only down side was leaving!

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I chose to live in this idyllic part of Somerset 18 years ago in order to be near Bristol where we both worked at the time. Now, neither of us work there and our younger daughter will soon finish school in Bristol, but we love being in the countryside but within about half an hour of Bristol, Bath and Wells.
The accommodation is mainly on the first floor of a stone built coach house. It shares a driveway with our home, which is about 40m from the coach house, but far enough away to give you complete privacy. Obviously, we are more than happy to help or answer any questions you may have.
Our home and the coach house are situated in a large garden, with orchard, ducks and chickens which guests are very welcome to enjoy.

Why they chose this property

We moved here in 1997 when our first daughter was due. The Coach House was built in 2012. The space on the ground floor is used for storing garden furniture, BBQ, bikes and table tennis table with the Coach House on the upper floor to take advantage of the splendid views.
Our house is situated about 100ft away from the Coach House.
We love living here - it is easy to get to Bristol,Bath, Wells or the coastal resorts of Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare to name but a few. The walking is superb with the Mendips literally on our doorsteps. Golfers are spoilt for choice, and mountain biking and riding is popular around here too.
We have fantastic cycle tracks nearby such as The Strawberry Line along a disused railway line linking various villages with pubs and coffee shops en route.

What makes this property unique

There is a fully fitted new kitchen, but if you don't want to cook, there is a very good local pub, The Langford, within 5 minutes walking distance, which serves local beers, wines and good food. There are other highly rated pubs in surrounding villages, a short drive or bike ride away.

There is a well stocked medium sized supermarket, with petrol station, at the other end of the village. This stays open 24/7, so you never need to worry about running out of anything!

We have a few chickens in a separate area of the garden, and we are happy for you to share the eggs.

We know this area well, and are always happy to share our knowledge.
