About this property

Tranquil, cosy waterside cottage direct river views, local pub, shop, walks.

Pentye is a converted former boat store/ shed. The cottage is tucked in beside the wall of an old Lime Kiln, set on the banks of the river Lerryn near Fowey. There are direct river views from the dining table and kitchen and the upstairs bedroom. There is also a small balcony with table and chairs for sitting out and watching the tide ebb and flow and good evening sun. Great for morning coffee, early evening drink or a meal. It is ideal for artists, writers, bird watchers, kayakers, paddle boarders and last but not least day dreamers .

You can kayak or paddle board straight from the lawn across the road at high tide. Beautiful riverside, woodland walks straight from the door. The ancient woodland just along from the house was said to be the inspiration for Kenneth Grahame's book 'Wind in the Willows'.
Good coastal walks also a short distance away.

A perfect escape for 1 or 2 people, completely self contained, impeccably clean and cosy.

Comfortable living space with comfy sofa, chair, t.v and kitchen area with cosy chairs overlooking the river. Small cloakroom and wet room on ground floor. Under floor heating.
Mezzanine bedroom with king size bed, white bed linen and towels all provided.
Nespresso coffee machine, Internet t.v. Echo Dot for radio/ music and wif fi also included.

Parking is available right outside the cottage, there are 7 steps up to the front door. There is also free parking available in the village car park or outside the village hall approx 50 metres away for when the tide is very high !

You can hire kayaks from Golant or bring your own paddle boards, kayaks or inflatable boat and paddle from just below the house to St Winnow, Golant, Fowey or Lostwithiel. We do have an alleyway attached to the cottage where you can secure kayaks, paddles boards, bikes etc.

Alternatively Fowey is about 15 mins by car via the Boddinick ferry. There is a very good local shop within a few steps of the house, which sells wine, beer, take away pasties and a wide range of groceries, so no need to take the car out or leave if you don't want to.

There is also a pub in Lerryn again a few steps away called The Ship Inn.The ancient town of Lostwithiel is 3 miles away which has lots of inspiring antique shops, cafes, pubs and a small Co-op supermarket. The Duchy Nursery is just outside Lostwithiel with an excellent range of plants and a really well worth visiting cafe. The Eden Project is only 8 miles, The National Trust's Lanhydrock House and the fishing villages of Fowey, Looe and Polperro are a short drive. Local beaches and coves ideal for swimming approx 20 minutes drive. Within an hour you can reach the vast north coast surfing beaches or the Tate Gallery in St Ives.

There are many good food places to eat out in Cornwall from the nearby Sam's on the Beach at Polkerris to a bit further afield for Nathan Outlaw's in Rock or The Hidden Hut at Portscatho.
There are many quiet spots to just pack up a picnic and take a good book to read and enjoy a bit of solitude if that's your thing too ....

We can consider short breaks of 3 nights between November and April. Please enquire.

Lovely accommodation in Lerryn
Lovely accommodation in beautiful Lerryn. The cottage is small but was plenty big enough for 2 adults and our dog. We enjoyed walking around Lerryn and driving around the area. We had good weather. We kept an eye out on the high tide, and we enjoyed watching all the wildlife on the river. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Relaxing week away
A perfect property for two persons wanting to relax in a peaceful environment with plenty of local walking options, and a great view of the river from the breakfast area and outdoor terrace. You can waste hours just sitting and watching the ebb and flow of the tide! Great food at the local pub which is about 30 seconds walk away!

We had a lovely, relaxing stay in Pentye. The property was comfortable, clean and well equipped for two. It's in a good location for exploring the wider area and also great to sit on the balcony to watch the birds and ever changing tides of the river.

Amazing views
We loved our stay at Pentye. The property has been beautifully converted into a very comfortable little house. We knew Lerryn from a previous visit many years ago so were delighted to find accommodation right next to the river. We spent many happy hours watching the tide & the birds and loved our riverside walks. It's a very special place and the village itself is a gem. Great location for exploring inland as well the south coast of Cornwall. Thanks to Michele for letting us stay in her delightful holiday home :)

Lovely little house, very clean & had everything you need. Views from the terrace were amazing, perfect spot for a glass of wine while the river came up to our steps. Great local pub & shop & good base for exploring the local area if you can tear yourself away from the river. Would definitely stay again

Great Little Cottage in Fab location
Really enjoyed our stay. The property is compact ( as described) , well equipped and in a great location. There are excellent walks from the Village. Both the Village Shop and Pub are to be recommended. The River is ever changing and yes, at high tides does come over the road out side!

Lovely Lerryn
A cosy, small cottage that is on the rivers edge (occasionally in the river with high spring tide lapping up & over the first step into the cottage). Compact space with everything you need in the kitchen. Parking wasn’t ever a problem, parked outside the village hall each evening to avoid the high tides. Wonderful setting, nothing quite like watching the ebb and flow of the river. Michelle responds quickly to any questions and was very helpful.

A Mixed Bag in Lovely Lerryn
There is much to like in this small, nicely designed* and furnished space with a comfortable bed, lovely view and pleasant owner. Sadly, and despite the overwhelming smell of bleach on arrival, housekeeping attention is required to kitchen drawers and contents, dirty windows, dust-encrusted pendant lights, etc. *with the exception of the wet room/cupboard - cramped and always wet. Beware! Live music in pub garden directly behind property. Tranquil Lerryn was jumping last Friday evening.

Lerryn is a hidden gem and a relaxing and tranquil place to stay
We had a lovely and much needed break here in Lerryn. The village and surrounding areas are just stunning, tranquil and relaxing. The cottage is comfortable and clean and has all the things that you need with outstanding River views. Great place to have a glass of wine on the terrace in the evening watching the Kayaks and Boats on the river. The High Tides that the Owner warned us of came up daily on our stay although very exciting to see how far they come up. Would really recommend this cottage for a relaxing holiday and cant wait to return .

Christmas in Lerryn
This cottage is so well positioned with amazing views over the river, around the corner from the most friendly pub, local store and, access to beautiful walks and car drives to beautiful Cornish towns by car. The cottage itself is really warm and cosy and well equipped to spend days outdoors and then cook lovely meals for yourselves and retire to watch TV either in the comfortable living area or in bed! It was winter when we went and stormy weather but I would love to be there in a warmer climate taking advantage of sitting on the patio drinking my morning coffee, or, evening glass of wine overlooking the river and view. A really memorable Christmas, thank you Michele and Nick

Bijoux Lerryn cottage
Whilst not a large property it contained all that was needed for our stay. Bedding and towels excellent quality, not so much the sofa as the seating cushions are not as firm as they could be. One minor issue for me was the bathroom being a wetroom which I'm not a fan of, and as the bathroom is not described on the website , it was a surprise on arrival. Overall its a charming and well decorated property in an ideal location for walking and discovering the local area.

Lovely location, inaccurate listing with problems
This property really is all about the location, which cannot be faulted. Extremely charming, cosy little cottage right on the water/mud banks. With updates could be 5*, but there is room for improvement and property listing would benefit from an update. Not shown in listing is the 'shower room' which is reminiscient of a school changing room and remains damp all day. Can understandfrom owner's perspective why it's not pictured but would probably help to manage expectations if it was. This property should not be advertised as dog friendly - don't bother bringing a dog, not worth the hassle. Listing also specifies garden, BBQ grill, etc. These are not true. Prior to stay, I contacted the owner to ask if the Hot Tub in the listing was accurate - it wasn't and has now been deleted. As another guest mentioned, cleanliness was not up to usual standards. Unfortunately we had to clean kitchen, cutlery and utensils before use. Soft furnishings could do with an update. Sheepskin rug stained, etc. To add insult to injury over the cleanliness of the property, our stay was tainted by being given 2 additional charges on checkout. Ironically, one relating to cleanliness, the other one to our small, well behaved (less than 10kg as stipulated!) therapy dog. I am sure owner will reply with her side of the story, but unfortunately this really left us with a sour taste about our whole experience here. As a long term holiday rental user I have never had such an experience before.

I was born and brought up in Plymouth, Devon right on the border with Cornwall, so seem to know Cornwall better than Devon. My parents were both from Devon and my grandparents were Cornish. I kept meaning to explore and live elsewhere but never seemed to get around to it, but as you get older you realise what a beautiful area of the U.K Devon & Cornwall are. I live with my husband Nick and daughter Milly on Dartmoor. We also have a son called Elliot. We run a food business on Dartmoor and are currently writing a cook book ..

Why they chose this property

Lerrryn is a creekside village just off the main Fowey river and a bit of a hidden gem. Easily accessible, but it seems far from the madding crowds. Good for beaches too on the North coast as well as the South coast. We already knew the area quite well as we were both brought up in Plymouth right on the border of Cornwall and Lerryn is less than an hour from the Tamar Bridge, so really easy to get there. When we saw this tiny quaint property right on the banks of the river, we weren't looking to buy anywhere but somehow serendipity just seemed to happen!

What makes this property unique

The walks straight from the house are beautiful and the changing seasons of the woodlands close by. We also enjoy having a pub and shop in walking distance, so we don't have to go anywhere if we don't want to, just stay here and watch the river, the birds and the tides.
