About this property

Luxurious Country House With Stunning Interior And Set In Beautiful Countryside

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, overlooking the nearby Montagne Noires (Black Mountains) Kervihan is the perfect retreat, here you will soon find yourself unwinding and surrendering to the “French pace of life”.

Our house has been designed to help you relax and breathe a sigh of relief from the moment you arrive. From its seemingly secluded spot, you wouldn’t know you are only a 20 minute drive from some of the best beaches in Brittany, or a 40 minute drive from either Morlaix or Quimper; two of Brittany’s finest Medieval towns. Just 3 minutes from the house in a car or a 10-12 minute walk is the nearest village, Plonevez du Faou. This is an unspoilt genuine Bretagne village, where everyday Bretons go about their daily lives. With two boulangeries, a charcuterie, a florist, a pizzeria, a mini supermarket and the customary tabacs you will find all your day-to-day needs on hand in charming surroundings. With a medieval church positioned in the centre of the village, you will begin to have a taste of the many historic buildings this region has to offer.

The house enjoys a private position and has been designed with open plan living accommodation on the upper floor to take full advantage of the surrounding views. Kervihan has three en-suite bedrooms, two with King Size beds and the third has two singles which can be put together to form a Super-King Size Bed. Two of the en-suites have modern showers and the third has a claw foot Victorian Roll Top Bath for two in the fireplace (yes the fireplace – where else do you put the bath?).

A fully fitted, fully integrated kitchen has all modern conveniences (including a dishwasher) for preparing those French gourmet meals. The dining table seats up to ten people and the lounge/den area has seating for at least eight and has a woodburner for the cooler evenings. You will find a flat screen TV, DVD player and satellite dish for entertainment, although we feel you will be whiling away your evenings sitting outside enjoying the sunsets. The house has full WiFi accessed throughout the property for those that feel they need to stay connected during their stay. The raised deck on the south facing balcony outside the kitchen is a perfect spot for morning coffee whilst watching the sunrise, or alfresco meals. Outside, each en-suite bedroom has it's own private patio with a small table and chairs, so everyone has their own little space to hide away. It is fabulous to have the open-plan layout for living and dining when everyone wants to come together to share a meal or spend the evening together, but its also great to have your own space from time to time. Each private patio has a different aspect, so will enjoy sun at different times of the day.

A gas Barbecue is provided for cooking outside should you wish, along with sun loungers, and an outside dining table and chairs for those alfresco meals.

a nice stay

Most beautiful house in rural environment

The house, both from the outside and interior is like what you usually find in a magazine as example for superior tasteful interior design. It is very isolated, though, in a very rural area. If you like peaceful solitude, this is for you. We had fantastic walks with our dog, which we did not have to leash because there was noone else around. Everything in Bretagne can be reached by car from this place, but it takes at least 45-60 minutes (eg beaches) - unless you can fly; country roads, often single track.... google maps is lying :) If you do not mind the long rides, you can reach the most fantastic beaches in Europe, like Plage de Charettes!!! Vanessa is an excellent host, easy to contact and quick to respond. We loved our holidays at Vanessa's place.

Beautiful Accommodation and Location

Our 5 days here were fantastic. We loved how quite the area was but with links to everything we need within 20 minutes. The house is really well laid out, and equipped - a home from home. The host was super helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely recommend and also stay there again.

Maison très au calme

Très belle maison. Calme absolu.

Nice modern design and clean house

Vanessa's house was very clean and nice. The decor is modern and nicely updated. We stayed in January so the house was very cold with no central heating. Vanessa was available and easy to communicate with regarding all of our needs.

Peaceful & relaxing

Lovely house, tasteful decoration. Plumbing was great (always a bonus!). A car is definitely required and you are about 20/25 minutes from the nearest beach. But there's a lovely lake nearby and the beaches, once you get there, are fabulous. We visited just after lockdown eased so it did feel very quiet. There were not many restaurants open, but we were happy to cook for ourselves anyway. We have no hesitation in recommending this getaway - wonderful!

Dusty and muffy house

The house is very beautifull but it was not clean (the owner says it was) and it smells very muffy. We had to bring a lot off flavored candles . It is difficult to discuss this with the owner, she claims Corona, but corona brings no dust en muffy smells.

Wunderschönes Haus in optimaler Lage

Alles was man braucht ist definitiv vorhanden , genügend Geschirr etc.

A wonderful relaxing stay in a lovely property!

We’ve had a wonderful time at Kervihan. The house was well positioned for a short cycle with our children into Plonévez-du-Faou for croissants and bread for breakfast, before setting off to explore the Crozon peninsula - which is buzzing and beautiful in perfect measure. Kervihan’s accommodation was clean, comfortable and with everything we needed to have s great holiday in Brittany. Communication with Vanessa was always excellent. Thankyou.

Good place for people looking for a quiet stay. Avoid winter time. Location difficult to find.

Preferrably to stay in this house outside winter time as heaters are too weak to cope with the volumes and the cold, especially upstairs and the two side bedrooms. Beware of big spiders and wasps occasionally inside ! Place is reasonably decorated and furnished. A bit dissapointed by the house though looking a bit older than in pictures. Place must be much better during summer time. The term "luxuous" is a bit exaggerated in our opinion. It is more like a normal/regular house. Note that TV channels are in english only .

Stunning Kervihan

What can we say about this property apart from stunning. It has everything and more you could want from a self catering holiday. When we arrived very tired we must have spent an hour wandering around inside and out and could not stop smiling and 'Thankyou' too Vannessa for the wine which went down really well. It is so peaceful,we felt at home straight away and were quite sad when we had to leave. Weather wasn't too good but luckily we were there for 19 nights so did get the sunshine in the end on the fab balcony with the country views.Would we stay again, most definetely.

Breathtaking and pleasant stay

Searching for a quite, rural and secluded holiday cottage, but with good links to daily live facilities, we found this cottage in Brittany. We spent one week of family spare time there with our two sons and our dog. The house was and is well equipet and we did not miss anything during our stay except from better weather :-(! Vanessa is the best host we ever had in the past. She was available every time we have had questions before and during our stay. Thanks a lot for your care, Vanessa! We visited and can recommend „Cap de la Chèvre“ (to the south of Margot), „Pointe du Raz“ (in the west of Point Croix), Huelgot with its beautiful outdoor nature paths (for example to „La Grotte d‘Artus“) and in Châreauneuf-du-Faou the castle and park of „Domain de Trévarez“. We can only emphasise the postive previous recommendations for this cottage. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Total home envy!

This house is to die for - very tastefully decorated and fully equipped with everything you would need for an easy pleasant stay. The owners have certainly thought of everything. Comfortable beds, sofa's and the best equipped kitchen we have ever experienced - handy given my partner is a chef. We booked this holiday rental in this area with a view to doing a lot of walking, however, within a few weeks of booking our dog unexpectedly sustained a leg injury which meant we were unable to utilise the area for this purpose. As an alternative we hopped in the car and did a whole tour of the Brittany region. We drove 2 hours to Cancale and visited St Malo, Dinard and Dinan - all of which are well worth a trip. We also spent a day travelling along the beaches of the Crozon Peninsula and would recommend a visit to Ile Vierge Creek which was stunning on a bright sunny day. We stumbled across one dog friendly beach near there which was fantastic as the other beaches prohibit dogs between June and September just like in the U.K. Huelgoat and Concarneau are also worth a visit. Roscoff is also a beautifully quaint town to wonder around while you wait for your boat. The communication from the owners had been fantastic from the beginning. Nothing has been too much trouble. Plonevez Du Faou has the basic amenities but is a very quiet village and as such you would need a car to venture further. We had some trouble finding Kervihan because the Sat Nav took us to the village only. Luckily Vanessa was available by telephone to provide directions. We travel to France on an annual basis with our Labrador. Kervihan is by far the most beautiful house we have stayed in to date. Although the location didn't exactly suit us because of a change in our circumstances I wouldn't hesite to reccomend this rental to others. Being just an hour from Roscoff Port makes it a convenient choice and is perfect if you are seeking the peace and quiet of rural France. Thank you Vanessa - we had a wonderful stay.

Beautifully restored

This property has been beautifully restored and makes for an extremely comfortable and inviting holiday stay. The upstairs living and dining area is a great space for families and the outside area perfect for breakfasts. Closest beach for families was less than 25 minutes drive, perfect for surfing and ice creams.

Very tasteful modern property

Stunningly renovated property in a very peaceful rural area, but still within close proximity of usual amenities. About 40 minutes drive to the fabulous beach at Morgat and the interesting Breton town of Quimper. A real treat.

Excellent property for relaxing holiday.

Lovely secluded property but still within walking distance of amentities. Loads to see in the immediate area including the 'chaos of the rocks' at Huelgoat and Chateau about 10 miles at at Treverez. Coast about 40 minutes to Crozon peninsula which has some wonderful beaches. Lacronan which is officially one of the prettiest villages in France is also about 40 minutes drive.

Beautifully renovated gite in a peaceful location.

This is an amazing gite beautifully renovated, which is superbly equipped. The garden is large and we put up our own badminton court! The gite is pretty remote with 3 empty houses close by but beautifully peaceful. The upside down arrangement works well as the higher BBQ area with table and chairs gets the early evening sun and the bedrooms on the lower floor are kept cool. It is well located for visiting a variety of nice towns but the nearest beach is actually a 40minute drive away - worth the drive however, as it is superb.

We are a forty something couple who have a passion for property and interiors. Most of our time is spent researching, designing and making either furniture for our properties or designing their interiors.

We spend a lot of time doing hand on jobs ourselves, its not often you won't find us with a paintbrush or sander in our hands, its what we do to relax, we do enjoy it so much.

We love creating relaxing, calming, beautiful spaces to spend time in. The trouble is we never sit still long enough in any of them to make full use of them. Instead we have decided to share the homes on Owners Direct with you, so you can enjoy these spaces aswell.

We really hope you enjoy spending time in them as much as we did creating them!

Please be sure to check out our other property; a four hundred year old cottage on the Essex Coastline positioned on Mersea Island:

Why they chose this property

Back in 2004 we decided to visit an old friend who was living in Brittany, when one day on a walk near to his home we saw a house that he said was his dream home; it was so architecturally interesting, being an old Masters House. He proclaimed how wonderful it would be to buy it, assuming this was simply a pipe dream! A few days later looking in the local Notaires window we couldn't believe our luck - Kervihan had just been put on the market that very day! Well it seemed like fate, we put in our offer, and the rest is history!

Fast forward a few years of not knowing how we could afford to renovate the house, and getting caught back in the daily routines of life in the UK, we finally embarked on the loving restoration of our french home in 2012.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do?

What makes this property unique

The light filled open plan living space is so magical, its unlike many traditional dark, dingy cottages in the area. On a warm day with the many windows and doors open there's a lovely breeze that wafts through the large space, keeping you cool and fresh. However, on a cooler evening light up the woodburner and cosy on down in the lounge/den area; with a lower ceiling height it feels really cosy and warm; a perfect place to spend the evenings.

With each bedroom being ensuite everyone has their own bathroom, aswell as their own doors leading to a private patio. This makes the house ideal for either a family, or two or three couples sharing the house, as you all get a little bit of space to yourselves. But for socialising the open plan living space is an ideal place to all come together
