About this property

4 Bed 4 Bath Provencal Hillside Villa nr Medieval Village / Heated Pool/ air con

This delightful villa complete with stuccoed walls and pantile roof is set in the hillside within easy walking distance of the medieval village of Seillans, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France (only 2 such villages in the Var). The property is very private, is not overlooked and the nearest neighbours are at least 100m away.

The house is south-facing with views across miles of pine woodland towards the coast and is not overlooked by any other property. It is located in a tranquil spot off a small road with easy access to the village but without the noise of being in the centre of the village.

The house has around 350 square metres of living space. Arranged as a main house and almost adjoining annex it has two double bedrooms and a bathroom and shower room in each building. Two bedrooms have kingsize beds, one a double bed and one twin beds. The living room has a mezzanine level which provides a sense of space, light and airiness.

The kitchen and 3 of the bathrooms have all been updated in the last 12 years and the house has had a new gas boiler installed in 2013 for reliable hot water. A new electric pool heater was installed in 2015 and various improvements to the outdoor space including a large decked area outside the open plan living area. Outside terraces including a dining area are flanked by mature tropical planting with yucca trees, oleander, a fine mulberry tree, fig trees, a pomegranate tree, olive trees, a variety of palms and cactuses looking down onto an azure heated swimming pool. The pool is heated to 29 degrees which is very pleasant! The pool is only available between Easter and the end of October unless separate arrangements are made with the owner.

We have air conditioning in the main house (both bedrooms plus the living room). The annex has substantial stone walls and is therefore cool without needing air con.

The villa is within easy reach of Frejus (where paragliding and the hire of crewed yachts are availabe, plus pleasant cocktail bars by the marina) and Cannes on the Cote D’Azur, the Lac St Cassien (pedalo hire), a variety of golf courses and the breathtaking Verdon Gorge (zip wires and white water rafting as well as being one of the finest gorges in Europe).

We provide a welcome pack when you arrive which includes a bottle of rose wine from the area, a bottle of water, cheese, olives and a baguette and if you are bringing small children, drinks and crisps will be provided for them.

Some basic household items are also provided including bin bags, dishwasher tablets.

Lovely villa and area
All very good. Just a shame the laundry from previous occupants was left in a pile and not picked up until late the following day. Gorgeous location and the pool is magnificent

Nice house and location
Nice house and location, outside space with table tennis, boules and pool fantastic. The inside space was comfortable, layout unusual, very spacious although for a smallish family we found ourselves spread between main house and annex, which involved a lot of locking up at night and teens sleeping in a separate building, I hadn't realised beforehand that the annex would be an unconnected building although this was OK for us. There were lots of lightswitches, some of which didn't seem to be wired in, it took us a week or so to learn which worked and which didn't. Overall, a good location and very enjoyable stay.

Beautiful house at amazing location
We had a magnificent time here. The house is located in a beautiful location, only 10min by foot from the center of Seillans. The pool has a generous size, and gave us the much needed refreshment. The AC in the bedrooms as well, makes the night very comfortable. The house will need some maintenance (esp the kitchen), and according to owner this will be arranged soon. The local host is very service oriented, even fixed wifi for us. We enjoyed our time here very much!

A perfect family holiday
This is a lovely property in a beautiful village - the pool was great for keen swimmers and the gardens are very pretty . The air conditioning and fans were a godsend and the house is very thoughtfully equipped . We had a great time and enjoyed the fantastic local restaurants in walking distance too - thank you !

Wonderful holiday
We have recently come back from a great family holiday in this relaxing house and which comfortably accommodated all eight of us plus a baby. We enjoyed spending our time by the pool, playing boules and many of the other games provided - and particularly the fact that we could just walk 10 minutes down the lane to the village for a drink or to eat a very good meal at one of the three restaurants – and walking back helped offset our indulgences! We loved the area – and amongst the things we thoroughly enjoyed, and would recommend, were our visits to one of the local vineyards, to the market in nearby Fayence and to spectacular Mons right at the top of the nearby peak. We wish we had been there for longer and look forward to a return visit one day. Thank you for a memorable holiday from all of us!

Stunning holiday home in spectacular location.
Our family has just had the most glorious holiday in this beautiful villa. The location is just outside the stunning village of Seillans and is easily reached in a few minutes. The walk back is a little challenging, but as we live in hilly Cornwall we were fine. We all fell in love with Seillans and felt so at home there. We had a fabulous meal to celebrate my 65th birthday at La Gloire de mon Pere and even though we were out of season we found a couple of bars open. I can't describe the beauty of the area and the view from the decked area is sublime. The villa had everything we all needed. It was nice for me and my husband to have the separate annexe away from the 'younger ones'. We were all blown away with the houses and the way they were decorated and furnished. Just our type of property. The only downside for us was that we only had a week there and it was quite upsetting to leave. Diana, If you ever need a couple of caretakers/ maintenance people for the house, we're here!

Fabulous
We had a fabulous stay in this house - so much to do but also lovely to just sit on the decking and appreciate the amazing view. The house is lovely and secluded but also a short walk into the local hilltop town for the morning croissant run! Would definitely recommend.

We are an English family of five. My husband and I are both finance directors of small companies. We have two daughters and a son in their twenties.

My husband and I both speak fluent German and a good standard of French.

The family has owned this house since 2000 and we have spent many happy family holidays here. We originally bought the house with another family but when they wanted to sell up early in 2014, our kids encouraged us to buy them out.

Since then we have embarked on improvements including a pool heater, new iron gates to the drive, a boules pitch and extending one of our patio areas with some decking. The latter is a wonderful addition to the outdoor space and provides characterful sunbathing space and shade over the stone table in the garden making an alternative dining spot. We have installed air con in the main house.

Please feel free to call me on +44 7767 368697 if you would like to hear more about the property.

Why they chose this property

Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Seillans is an extraordinarily attractive village with immense character and charm. The main village is a maze of narrow cobbled allies and doorways. The painter and sculptor, Max Ernst, lived here and one of his sculptures can still be seen in the Place de la Republic.

Seillans is close enough to the coast to provide easy access but far enough away to avoid the worst of the crowds. Being up a hill, the evenings are very slightly cooler than the coast which can be an immense relief.

The villa's views across the woodland below are unspoilt and the scent of nearby spruce trees and the sound of the local goats give it a very rural feel, even though it is close to the village.

The pool heater is a godsend and because it is a heat exchanger, it doesn't matter if the sun is shining, the pool will be warm.

We have recently installed air conditioning, which is not common in the area. Summers can be very hot in the south of France and we want to make sure that visitors are comfortable when they sleep. A cold room is also a turn off for any mosquitoes in the region!

What makes this property unique

The house and gardens were laid out with great panache by a Parisian artist and florist. There are many characterful features such as the corner fireplace, oak beams throughout and the mezzanine area above the sitting room. The latter gives the property a feeling of airiness and light. These features make it unlike most other properties in the area which can be very lacking in character.

The main bedroom in the annex has stone walls and a romantic sunken bath which is great fun for both kids' and adults' baths!

The villa is in close proximity to the village which has three very good restaurants. This makes for very relaxing lunches with only a short distance to stagger back to the house!

Not many houses in the area have invested in a pool heater or air conditioning.

The villa is self contained and at a distance from all neighbouring houses. If you don't want to see anybody when you are there (other than popping into the village for food), it is entirely possible to spend a delightfully restful break just in the grounds of the villa.
