Small and basic but in an ideal location and perfect for us as on great walking routes. I believe it is competitively priced and the owners are lovely.

Great location, cosy cottage
Lovely situation and the cottage was warm and well equipped. It's small, but that was not a problem for us.

Perfect for us
The property is located on a working farm and along one of the many trails in the area. Hikers pass by all day. The bedroom is on the upper level while the bathroom is located on the lower level which is about the only inconvenience. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cooking supplies. Note that the owner asks that you bring your own towels. The bed is comfortable. The location is away from any roadway so it is quiet. Keswick is an easy 10 minute drive where there are groceries, shopping and many restaurants. There is a nice café at the end of the drive - an easy walk - and several more pubs and restaurants nearby without having to drive into Keswick.

Wonderful
The cottage is perfectly situated, immaculate clean and very comfortable. The family were very approachable and could not be better hosts. We hardly used the car because there are so many walks from the Farm. We hope to visit again very soon.

Getting away from it all
The cottage is ideally located, far enough away to feel very rural and tranquil without all the other tourists around, but also close enough to Keswick and village pubs/cafes for convenience. Blissfully quiet, all you can hear is birds, sheep and the babbling stream. Fresh flowers from the garden were a welcoming touch, and there are idyllic walks straight from the cottage such as Cat Bells and Derwent Water. Laura is welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed watching the sheepdogs working from the window. The cottage is adjoined to the farmhouse so there is the odd infrequent noise from the house and from campers coming to book in from the farm's campsite down the road, a few of them mistook the cottage for the farmhouse (even though there's a sign on the cottage door!) but this wasn't really a problem unless you're precious about your privacy. The cottage is equipped with most things, the only things which could improve it I would say are a hairdryer and a decent frying pan for those all important breakfasts. Overall a very pleasant stay and highly recommended.

Perfect Walking Location
Hollows Cottage is a fantastic place if you enjoy walking. We spent a week here and didn't use the car at all! There are so many different paths to take we were spoilt for choice. There is an excellent bus service from Grange which we used once to go a little further afield. The cottage is cosy and well equipped with a great view, and we enjoyed having the lambs and calves as entertainment.Laura is very helpful made us feel welcome, as did the rest of the family. We have no hesitation in recommending Hollows Farm.

Cosy farmhouse cottage in Barrowdale
Such a cosy cottage bed and sofa was very comfortable. Fully equipped with everything you need. The view from the cottage was outstanding. Plenty of walks close to the river and around the village. Even saw a deer crossing the drive up to The farm. Would highly recommend this place to a couple 👍👍👍

Very comfortable and very clean. ( Looked new). Beautiful location and views.
The farm was situated a long way from the main road which made it very quiet and tranquil. The lake Derwent Water was within easy reach from the property. The property is extremely fine and pleasant for a quiet holiday.

Outstanding Holiday Accommodation
This cottage is one of the best my husband and I have stayed in. It is clean and designed with attention to detail and with all the amenities you need for your stay. We were a little disappointed that the Wi-Fi signal was too weak to make a connection most of the time, but apart from this it is an excellent place to stay to explore the Northern Lake District. We are thinking of returning in the Winter time to get some photos of snow on the fells.

About the host

Hosted by Laura Fearon

Host profile image
My name is Laura Fearon and with together with my husband Gavin we have been tenants on this National Trust Farm since 1993, we have grown up in the area and are both from farming family's. We run the farm together and have help from our two sons.

What makes this property unique

Hollows Cottage is only 1/2 mile from Grange, where there is 2 busy tea rooms, and less than 5 mile from Keswick which is a bustling market town, the farm is rural but not isolated.
We live next door to the cottage, it is owner maintained, and we have a good knowledge of the area for walks, eating out. Our youngest son has free range eggs for sale.
You can often see Gavin working and training sheep dogs.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hollows Farm.
