About this property

Get together in a spacious house in the lake district national park.

Greenbank House is set in the beautiful Langdale Valley, within walking distance to the popular village of Ambleside. This is a large, stunning luxury cottage with plenty of space, and set in the best possible location for hiking and exploring nearby, within walking distance of local amenities.

Opposite the ever-popular coffee shop Chester's on the River, and within rambling distance of Cumbria's most beautiful waterfall, Skelwith Force. The Talbot Bar about 100m away serves classic Cumbrian dinners, and excellent ale.

This house was built around its panoramic views of the mountains from the lounge, conservatory and bedrooms, and is secluded by private gardens. There is a big kitchen, with a large lounge and dining area, which easily accommodates 10 people. We place a priority on very comfortable mattresses, and change them regularly to maintain this.

One double room and one twin room have ground floor access, with two bathrooms, including a walk in shower, bath and two kitchenettes, for independent downstairs living. The main lounge and main kitchen is located on the upstairs floor.

Great property in a superb location
I was there with 5 other friends, mainly walking. We used the whole property for sleeping arrangements but there was loads of cooking, sitting and eating room in the main property for all of us. Easy walk to the hotel for dining out, drinks, pool table etc. Very difficult to fault for what I was looking for. Would have no hesitation about staying in the future.

Superb place to stay, will definitely return
What a lovely place to stay! The house is large (there is enough space for all the family), well-equipped and very comfortable, with stunning views. The location is excellent - it was easy to find and we could get out and about around the Lakes very quickly. There was enough parking for everyone too. The house itself is really warm with the stove and it has a good internet connection. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Overall the whole family had a lovely holiday and we will definitely come back to Greenbank.

Perfect Picturesque Lake District holiday
Fantastic holiday in breathtaking surroundings. Greenbank had everything you could possibly wish for the perfect holiday in the Lake District. I went with a group of family and friends - there was plenty of space, luxurious, very clean and in a fantastic location to do everything you want whilst in the Lakes. I will definitely be coming back!

The Ladies
Loads of room for 6 ladies The heating is brilliant, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds but very hard pillows. Problems trying to get dvd to work. Great location, easy to find and parking for two big cars. We would definitely stay here again You need a visitors book

Lovely, comfortable, warm and spacious.
We stayed a week and there was plenty of space for all the family - very comfortable and homely, with the beautiful view and a great location from which to walk. The kitchen is modern and well stocked. The owners went out of their way to very kindly return by post some much loved items of clothing which we left!

A great place to stay over Christmas
We had family to stay over Christmas and Greenbank was perfect for our needs. It is in an excellent location for access to the Langdale valley and surrounding countryside with paths straight from the door and Chester's cafe conveniently just across the bridge! We hired the whole house for 8 of us and it was very spacious with lots of private and communal space so we didn't feel on top of each other at all. David and Roja were very helpful and friendly and though we had a problem with the boiler in lower Greenbank they arranged for a plumber to come out at short notice on Christmas eve. The only down side of our week was the weather but then you can never guarantee that in the lake district! We would definitely recommend the house and the area.

Super house with fabulous views
We stayed in November. The weather was sunny but very cold however the house is blessed with great central heating as well as a fantastic wood burner. We were super toasty! There's a great kitchen if you want to cook, but honestly there are numerous great places to eat within minutes of the property. We were blown away by the huge window in the lounge. Ohh my word, the views, especially the sunsets are just spectacular. The rest of the house is great too. There's oodles of space, the bathrooms are well appointed and very modern and the bedrooms cosy and very comfortable. Whenever I'm on holiday I nearly always have an issue with the bed. I find them too hard and unforgiving and I creak out of bed in the morning feeling stiff and sore. Not in this house though! The bed was fantastic. Not too hard, not too soft but just perfectly comfortable :) I would definitely stay here again.

Just what the doctor ordered
A weekend away was in order and led us to Greenbank and what a perfect setting just to kick back, relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. A quaint, higgledy-piggledy building with ample parking, it was spacious and well-equipped with everything you need and the view through the large picture window in the lounge is magnificent, especially at sunset. There's a pub and renowned cafe just round the corner if you don't fancy cooking and Ambleside is only a short drive away for a larger selection of eateries. All in all, you can't ask for much more. A second visit is already booked!

Superb Cottage/s in a Great Location
The cottages are ideal for families and groups who enjoy walking. They are very well appointed so if you want to eat in there is everything required. There is easy access to walks directly from the cottage with the beautiful Little Langdale within easy reach. Elterwater is a short walk away with the a great pub, The Britannia Inn, being an attraction. Over the bridge is the Skelwith Bridge Hotel. Ambleside is just a few miles away to enable you stock up on provisions.

Very relaxing holiday
The house was very comfortable with lovely views and a nice garden at the back. It was very spacious and we enjoyed sitting in the conservatory. It had the best equipped kitchen we have ever had in a holiday cottage . The location was very good with nice walks from the door and only a few minutes drive to Ambleside. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful location
We stayed in the upstairs section of the house (High Greenbank) which is spacious and well-equipped. The views are fantastic and we especially enjoyed sitting in the conservatory looking out over beautiful countryside. The house is conveniently located for local walks (we particularly liked walking along to Elterwater and back). It is an easy drive to Ambleside and Coniston. We loved nearby Chesters By the River Cafe and there is also a pub and restaurant in easy walking distance. The views and location made this a great holiday and would make us think about booking again.

Little Greenbank is comfortable and well equipped.
Little Greenbank is the one-bedroom section of the property. It was our second stay there and we were very satisfied with all aspects of the stay. The house is very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. It is well placed for walking directly from the house or for touring by car. Although the weather was not very good while we were there( it snowed!) it was always pleasurable to return to the warmth and comfort of the house. We certainly hope to return again.

We are keen walkers and climbers and have been coming to the Lake District for over thirty years. We fell in love with Greenbank the moment we saw it, and hope you enjoy this sanctuary in the heart of the Lakes just as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The Langdale Valley is one of our favourite places in the Lake District - outdoor enthusiasts will know why! The beautiful little hamlet of Skelwith Bridge marks the entrance to the Langdale Valley, and Greenbank, set in tranquil and accessible grounds close to Rothay River, could not be a better place to stay.

What makes this property unique

-Private property set in its own grounds.
-Walking distance to Ambleside.
-Hikes to Skelgyhll Force and Elterwater from the door.
-Ample space for ten people. Alongside the main lounge and kitchen are 2 additional kitchenettes.
