Cosy, welcoming, very comfortable house in the Peak District
We enjoyed all the comfort of a warm and welcoming home away from home with our dog. Cooked easy meals in a very well kitted out kitchen. Found the beds very comfortable, the photos and art very interesting and the rugs very cosy! Location is great though our car was essential of course! Lindsay was available if we had any questions and the Welcome hamper very generous! Very safe enclosed garden area for our cockapoo. beds really comfortable

Enjoyable
My best friend and I really liked the cottage and the garden area was beautiful. The property was spotlessly clean and the host had left a generous welcome pack. There were very explicit instructions regarding the placing of linen and towels at on our departure as well as being asked to sweep the floor. A lovely short break.

Beautiful maintained cottage in great location
Lyndsey meet us upon arrival with coffee and biscuits, provided us with helpful information for our stay. Lovely walk from door to Magpie mines, Lathkil dale and finishing at amazing garden rooms for huge cake. Only 30min drive to Mam Tor and ridge walks. Kids enjoyed speedwell cavern and Abraham heights. Cottage perfectly stocked with kitchen essentials for eating in and was so cosy we was happy with this. Wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you.

Peak District Dream Location
We had the most amazing time at Lower Folds, it was so easy to communicate with Lindsey and the check in process was so smooth. When we got there, just WOW! The place was spotless and Lindsay had clearly put lovely finishing touches around the place to make it homely! In terms of location we couldn't have asked for better, close enough that we could walk into Bakewell along through peaceful fields(~45mins), and easy to jump in the car to explore what else the peak District had to offer! We can't wait to come back and stay at lower Folds! X

beautiful cottage in idyllic location
Lovely comfortable cottage, tastefully decorated with beautiful views out over the hills. Kitchen has wide range of equipment and good quality crockery and utensils. Lindsay was very helpful, and the plentiful supply of local maps and walking guides were much appreciated. Enjoyed walking down to the river, ideal for bird lovers. Also did the Monsal cycle trail twice, which was great, though would advise getting there early, particularly in school holidays, as very busy by late morning. Bike shed at back of cottage was handy. Lathkill Hotel has simple unspoilt bar area with great views over the dale, good pub food, if a little overpriced compared to other local pubs. Overall, thoroughly enjoyable stay, and would definately recommend this cottage and location!

Great Property in a beautiful location.
This was our first visit to the Peak District and my wife and I were not disappointed. We were met on arrival to Lower Folds by the owner Lindsay who turned out to be the perfect host for the introduction as no stone was left unturned regarding information. A much appreciated welcome pack was also provided. We were aiming to do some walking and were pleased to find out there were a number of walks from our doorstep which we took advantage of. The property is very close to Bakewell, which we now know to be a very pretty town and definitely worth a visit, and not far away from Chatsworth which was also taken advantage of. All in all we had a brilliant few days in a new region for us, in the perfect property and location. I would recommend Lower Folds to anyone and we most certainly wouldn't hesitate to book again for a return visit. Many thanks to Lindsay for bringing such a lovely property to the holiday market.

About the host

Hosted by Lindsay Arnell

Host profile image
Lower Folds is owned by husband and wife Steve and Lindsay who live in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. We have always loved visiting and walking in the Peak District.
We take great pride in being able to offer high quality holiday accommodation to our guests. We always endeavour to welcome guests personally to the cottage and we are on hand to offer advice on the local area and to respond to any events needing immediate attention.

As dog lovers ourselves, we don't believe that you should have to compromise on the quality and comfort of your accommodation in order to bring your dog with you on holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lower Folds.

Why they chose this property

We had searched for the perfect property in the Peak District for many years.

Our criteria was simple but surprisingly difficult to satisfy.

The cottage had to:
- be in the National Park
- be within walking distance of a good "foodie" pub or restaurant
- have its own private garden to provide a secure environment for young families and dogs
- and have its own parking so that you don't have to spend your precious holiday time hunting for a space.

We stumbled across Lower Folds in Over Haddon on one of our many walks and knew immediately that it was the one for us.

We think it's perfect to unwind and relax and we hope you will too.

What makes this property unique

Lower Folds is conveniently located in the quiet village of Over Haddon yet only 2.5 miles from all the shops, restaurants and amenities offered in Bakewell.

Over Haddon overlooks the National Nature Reserve of Lathkill Dale, one of the most beautiful dales in the Peak District.

Within walking distance of Lower Folds is the CAMRA awarding winning Lathkil Hotel serving excellent food and a wide selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Also within walking distance of Lower Folds is the Garden Tea Rooms serving hot drinks and sumptuous home made cakes.
