About this property

A Perfect Getaway Holiday Home, Impeccably Stylish, Rustic Luxury

The Space: The Cottage at Wantsley Farm is set in the glorious Dorset countryside, 20 minutes from the Jurassic coast and within walking distance of the beautiful village of Beaminster. You can walk straight from the door (the footpath starts 100yrds down the road) across the hills more or less through the set of Far From the Madding Crowd. The cottage is in the grounds of Wantsley Farm, a lovely family farmhouse which has 17 acres of rolling hills and woodland. It has its own patio seating area, and parking space for 2 cars. The cottage has a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, complete with roll-top bath, and 2 single beds in the other, with a pull out bed for a 5th person. There is a shower room with loo and a separate downstairs loo. Oak floors throughout, exposed beams, a wood-burner stove and French windows make the cottage light and airy in the summer months and delightfully cosy in the winter. There is a patio with table and chairs just outside the sitting room. Due to the close proximity of a thatched roof I'm afraid it's no BBQ's.
Guest Access: Guests have access to the farms fields, streams, the woodland and can walk (100yds down the road to the footpath) over the hill to the local pub in nearby Stoke Abbott. Spare linen will be in the cottage, maid service will be weekly.
Interaction with Guests. Guests can feel welcome to drop in with requests or for local advice, but their privacy is respected in every way.

Lovely Christmas stay
A lovely cosy cottage that was ideal for a Christmas stay with a toddler and dog in tow. Cottage was warm and well-equipped with everything we needed. 20-25 mins from nearest beaches and we also enjoyed walking round the farm and visiting the chickens. We would stay here again - super spot!

Pleasant stay
We had a pleasant stay in this well appointed house. The garden area was smaller than we thought and as the owner's pointed out dogs must be on a lead as there is a main road next door. A good location for exploring places if interest in Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Beautiful Cottage which allows dogs :)
Lovely place to stay as a central base in Dorset, clean and well-appointed with clear instructions for optimum use of the cottage and area. Granted we stayed in February but I'd take some slippers next time as the floor is cold but the water was hot, shower was great and bed was very comfy. No communication with hosts whilst we were there but we didn't intitiate as we were out all day but I'm sure they'd be quick to respond to any issues as communication prior to this was very easy. Overall I would recommend.

Lovely cottage for a week in Dorset
Had a lovely stay at the cottage, which was in a good location for visiting Lyme Regis, West Bay, Charmouth and Devon. The children enjoyed feeding the chickens and there was lots to do for families in the area. Would recommend the cottage for anyone wanting to visit the area.

Lovely spot!
The accommodation was comfortable and as described online. The cottage manual was useful, extensive and on the whole correct although a couple of places we were recommended to only opened at the end of the week… Would have been nice to have, in addition to half a dozen of their hens eggs, and pint of milk on arrival as we were limited as to where we could get some. Overall would recommend the cottage.

Fabulous new yrs stay
We had a fab week stay in the cottage. Communication with Charlotte was fantastic, easy instructions in the manual on how everything worked. The cottage is cosy and had everything we needed. Surroundings are great and the kids had so much fun on the rope swings and zip wire. Location was good, the local village is lovely. We ventured into Lyme Regis, West Bay, Golden Cap and lulworth. Coming back from chilly beach days to the roll top bath and wood burner in the cottage was super nice. None of us wanted to leave, So we will definitely be returning!

Lovely property in rural location, but near to town for amenities. Beautiful location.
The cottage is furnished to high standard with everything to ensure a comfortable stay. The view from the kitchen window is amazing (when the cloud is not low)! There are lots of places to walk. The 5 year old with us loved exploring and feeding the chickens, that are very tame. It’s in a lovely quiet location, but only about 20 minutes by car to the nearest beach. The owners were very helpful and responded to messages very quickly.

Lovely time
We had a really enjoyable holiday and we were blessed with some lovely weather. We did think that it needed some extra dishes ie salad bowl, bread bin, extra eggs cups ( only 3 available) and there was only 4 coat hangers. The cottage itself was cosy and very comfortable and the bed was really comfortable. Charlotte met us and she made us very welcome.

Wonderful cottage
We had a fabulous stay in this special cottage. Everything was very comfortable and the main bedroom is superb. We all enjoyed watching the very sociable chickens and enjoyed their eggs. We also had a visit from ‘Toast’ the farmhouse dog who was extremely sweet and well behaved and came up to say hello ((now my boys want a dog like him…) My boys really enjoyed the land around the cottage and especially the rope swing which they had great fun on. The cottage is very well placed for Bridport, Beaminster west bay and Lyme Regis. We also went to Weymouth a couple of times which is approx 45mins away. In all we had a super stay. Thank you so much Charlie & Tim. We hope to stay again some day. Linda,Roger & the boys

Could have done better with having some goodies on arrival
Enjoyed the cottage very clean. Met Tim second day and he spent some time helping sort the video player out so thanks for that. Lovely conversion of the barn nice and peaceful even though main road was at the back of the property which didn’t bother us. Lovely rolling hills to walk the dog very safe and lovely chickens

We'd definitely return!
Peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, spacious. This delightful cottage offered everything and more for our 2 week stay. After being out most days, either hiking or discovering the environs, it was our haven to return to. Blissfully quiet, field views & chickens to keep you amused in the next field. Tim greeted us with fresh eggs and home made jam, he and Charlotte live in the farm house (not attached) & each other's privacy was respected, however, they were available to deal with any queries, which we didn't have. Charlotte had left some wonderful recommendations in the manual. We were sad to leave & look forward to returning.

Comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting
We had a comfortable stay in a well-equipped cottage. We especially loved the birdsong and the sense of nature at our doorstep. It’s in a great location, within in the Dorset AONB, with beautiful countryside and walks on its doorstep. Sea is 21 mins away and Beaminster down the road has lots to offer, including two good eateries. Very good hosts: Tim was very good at dealing promptly with any issues that arose, especially with timings at crucial junctures, and was very helpful and flexible when we needed it. Our only caveat is the concealed exit on to a sharp bend when you need to cross the road to the right when traffic is coming down the hill on the left at speed and out of sight. The mirror provided opposite the entrance needs to be replaced and the warning signs improved.

A Relaxing Rural Retreat
We loved this cottage. It has been converted/renovated to an extremely high standard. The features we regard as essential in terms of comfort and efficiency are top notch, ie bed, bathroom, kitchen. If I can cook as easily as I can at home, then it’s a definite hit! The sitting room has a fantastic wood-burning stove which we really enjoyed over Christmas. 5 minutes at most from Beaminster where there is a more than adequate range of the basics. Our hosts were away, but everything was ready for us, including some home made goodies and eggs from their hens. An extremely comprehensive information booklet meant that we were perfectly self-sufficient. It’s very well placed for days out, both coastal and countryside, and some splendid pubs in this part of the world!

Abandoned
Nice barn like cottage. Lounge very dark. Sofa and armchair very uncomfortable. We were told the owners were away until Tuesday. When they got home they not once came to our cottage to welcome us. 1st time we have ever not had a pint of milk in the fridge or welcome pot of jam or cake on arrival. Felt very isolated and unfriendly. The walk suggested in the brochure they provided was overgrown and impassable. We all got stung by stinging nettles as they were so high. The oven took ages to heat up.

Mooie uitvalsbasis

I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two adorable (well to us anyway) boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.

Why they chose this property

This little corner of England is very special and dear to us. Away from major motorways we are surrounded by astonishingly beautiful and varied countryside, and stunning coastline of cliffs, beaches and estuaries.
