About this property

Experience the romance of a BARN. "DO YOU THINK YOU LIVE IN A BARN"YES!!

Enjoy my restored 1849 barn at the end of a secluded road. (it's a 240-acre farm). Remote, quiet location with a 3-acre backyard, firepit included. This isolated location still allows easy access to your college and Columbus destinations. Come back to the barn, snuggle up, build a fire, cook a meal, listen to coyotes howl, watch birds and wildlife and see stars that are invisible in any metropolitan area. It is pure country air. So remote, yet 18 miles from Amazon, Intel, and new companies moving into New Albany.

The barn provides an escape back in time when neighbors were few, the skies were devoid of pollution, and there was land all around you, Experience country peace. Inside, explore the barn's evolution. This 200 year old structure maintains its original integrity with some 21st century surprises. Pamper yourself with a sauna or red light therapy session after a bonfire with smores, or a fire with wine in the huge indoor fireplace.

The location is perfect for college parents' weekends @ Mount Vernon Nazarene, Denison, Kenyon, or Ohio State. 23 minutes driving to Kenyon College- 15.8 miles. It is 14 minutes to Denison- -14.8 miles and 44 minutes to Ohio State- 39.3 miles. It is approx. 45 minutes to Polaris Parkway, beginning of Columbus, mecca of shopping and restaurants. 40 minutes to Easton Town Centre.(another side of Columbus). About one hour to Amish Country. (Mount Hope) Ideal just as a retreat for the week or weekend. Sleep at least nine in total. Two in the private master bedroom(queen) and two in the private bedroom upstairs. (queen), lots of extra pillows ranging from soft to hard, both big and small. Master with private outdoor access and bathroom. Patio doors provide beautiful outside sounds and a breeze! We just installed a 24,000 BTU mini split in the living room. Although there is propane heat, those areas tend to be tough to heat and cool(30-foot ceilings)You should be warm or cool, no matter the temperature. The unit was just put in Oct,24, so hopefully the heat and cooling issue in the big area is solved. Only time will tell The pellet stove provides a visible fire while heati nothing's better than opening the French doors and listening to the sounds of nature, silence, and a crackling fire in the backyard fire pit! When remodeling the barn; we triinal structure's integrity. The stalls were removed for the custom kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom. The cows were housed in the now-remodeled first-floor bedroom with a bathroom. The milkroom is now the laundry room. It has its own toilet and shower. It also has a separate entrance for dirty hikers, explorers, hunters, or even dogs to shower. Upstairs, what were haylofts, are now bedrooms and a game room. The kitchen is fully equipped with three coffee makers, one for ground, a French press, and one for the whole bean. There are. plenty of ground beans and packets of ground coffee for your use. SS newer LG appliances, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, instant pot, air fryer, toaster, spices, condiments, sugar. Bring your own bottled water, coffee creamer, and groceries. Granite countertops, microwave, stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator. No ice maker in fridge. There is Caraway and Cuisinart cookware. The reverse osmosis water filtration faucet is next to the farmhouse sink. Garbage disposal is a push-button control in the granite. Four bathrooms, Central propane, and 24,000 BTU mini split heating. Central air cooling installed Feb. 2019. Six ceiling fans, USE FANS TO DRAW HEAT DOWN> 30-foot ceiling. 50,000 BTU pellet stove, Senville mini split artic heat, and the cool unit are in the main living area and a wood-burning fireplace. Today we installed Starlink Satellite, so you may stream to your heart's content. The upstairs television and master bedroom TV also are smart tvs. The upstairs gameroom has a poker table, tons of board games, or hook up your gaming system to that tv. All the games are now in the old trunk under that tv in the game room.

The third bathroom on the first floor is in the mudroom/laundry room.
This is an original barn. I've fought hurdles to make the barn a one-of-a-kind luxury experience in the middle of farm country. Having said that, Intel is beginning to start its chip factory ten minutes away. My guess is this remote location will be seeing a lot of changes!
There is pretty pure water, but we bring water to drink. There is a Reverse Osmosis silver faucet next to the sink. We do drink from there and use it for coffee.

I use a walker, the barn is handicap accessible. just one step into the barn, first-floor master, shower bench and grab bars into the main bathrooms. The doors and hall are not wide enough for a wide wheelchair, but speaking from experience, it works with a walker—no need for steps. The walker stays at the barn in the laundry room if you need it.
It is treated for bugs every quarter, but, there very well may be some! The bugs are usually found on window sills dead daily after these treatments. I can’t do anything about that. It is cleaned on Sundays or Mondays, all bugs are swept up.That doesn’t mean you won’t find them in those few days it was empty. I made the choice better dead than flying around! So be aware, spring and fall is the worst for dead bugs. If you’re in and out a lot during the summer flies, will certainly get in the screen doors. This was not a purchased kit to mimic a barn. If I had done that, it wouldn’t be old and authentic, but I’ll bet I wouldn’t of had this bug problem! Wood beams, built with pegs rather than nails, mantle, and structure are the REAL deal. The outside wood had shrunk, so the barn was clad in grey metal last month. Hopefully, that will keep some bugs out.

There are dogs, roosters, cows, and chickens across the lane! There are wetlands on the opposite with fowl, plenty of turkey and deer. Covid helped the coyote population, they are howling every night. I love to hear them, but, if you have a dog, DO NOT LET HIM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT! They may seem friendly, but they are not.

There is a propane Weber grill on the deck. Please make sure the propane is turned off totally and the grill is cleaned and covered after use. There is a fire pit outside, too. I provide one fire, just leave cash in the honor box if you exceed included amounts!

No question is dumb and I welcome the opportunity to provide a unique, one-of-a-kind, intimate trip away from home! Thanks for looking.

Heating issues

The heating was not up to full capacity. The owners controlled the thermostats. We had to use a pellet heater and a mini split heater to make up for the primary heating or the furnace. The temp was tolerable but never what it should have been. The owner tried her best to help but being so far away could not come on site to correct the issue.

Hidden gem

We did a fabulous girls weekend here. It’s a wonderful barn. If I had one complaint, it would be the spiral staircase to the second level. It makes it very challenging to carry a suitcase up, and the steeps are also very slippery. I would also note that the two twin beds are in a loft which if you’re going with family members it is open to down below and if you’re using it for children, it will be too noisy for them if you stay awake after they go to bed early

Country Getaway

Enjoyed the unique renovated barn setting. Perfect for our weekend family wedding nearby. Could have used better outside furniture on porch. A little too much of the owners stuff in the house. The coffee machine was nice and very cozy.

Fantastic Stay in Fabulous Renovated Barn for Kenyon graduation (20 minutes away)

Leslie the owner is a delight: accommodating, communicative and conscientious. The Barn was spotless and has a well-equipped kitchen, cozy robes and towel sets thoughtfully laid out in multiple baths. Attractive and eclectic decor with a nod to barn style. Primary bedroom mattress was so comfy! Great common space to relax. We enjoyed the covered porch with pastoral views of the meadows. We had a party of 6 and it worked perfectly for our group ages 21-60.

The perfect place for a memorable experience

This gem located in the heart of Ohio will leave you speechless. Leslie has thought of everything and the attention to detail is something that truly sets this stay apart from others. From a fully equipped luxury kitchen with a grill outside, to the sauna and a bathtub fit for a king (or queen)...to the cozy feel you get from a fire burning in the fireplace as you lounge on the comfiest couch sharing time with friends and loved ones...this is a place perfect for making lasting memories. Leslie was extremely responsive, understanding of our circumstances leading up to the stay, and did everything you could ask of a host. We are extremely grateful to have found this special stay and to have had an exemplary host such as Leslie.

We had a great visit at this property! It was a convenient location for us, as we have family in the surrounding area. The barn is spacious but with a cozy feel and all the renovations they have done are impressive. It is stocked with everything you could want for your stay and then some. We will gladly return again!

Leslie and her barn are just amazing. I’ve been a lot of places and this barn is my second favorite. If you haven’t been there I’d highly recommend it. The barn and everything in it is of the highest quality, and very unique. Leslie is by far the nicest host I’ve talked to we’ve never met face to face but she feels like family.

looking to get away from it all and do nothing and found that "nothing" was "the all" i needed

so comming off a very busy growing season at the vineyard and nursery we work at, with only 2 weeks to ourselves before "wreath season" we were beyond needing to get away. and getting away for us is usually the beach, but my family likes to pride ourselves on doing things diffrent,,break away from "our norm" and i had been looking at The Brn for some time now and just never "took that break from our "norm". so a quick family meeting and we all said we had done nothing different this year,,so the barn was chosen. and the fact that "fur baby's" are allowed,,well enough said, deal DONE! the Barn was exactly as described and then some,, like you get off the highway and drive through some pretty awesome countryside,, peacefull, fresh air,,and blue sky for as far as you can see. This place is a "must see" and "must do" if you want to do "nothing". "nothing" as in do what you want,, wake up fix yourself some good coffee and go out and stand in the lane as the sun comes up,,then wander onto the side pourch and lsiten to the awaken,, the squrills and chipmonks fighting for soybeans and walnuts, the geese in the fields preparing to do whatever it is geese do during the day,, and before yo know it,,it's 11 a.m and you havent even had breakfast. and you never noticed that you do indeed need to eat,,cause there is so much more to do,,thats awaits you in doing "nothing". take a trip down to the alpacca farm,, good products great prices, do to the "pay it forward" store in town,,so worth it,,and go to "the disneyland of ice cream"(as the kids called it" Velvet ice cream. the town of utica is pretty cool. then come back,,plat games in the game room,, make an awesome dinner in the kitchen then ,,even though it was our intention to have a fancy dinner, we all sat on the side pourch and ate. then we walked far ou into the fields and explored as we watched some of the most awesome sunsets ever. BUT be sure to have your fur babys inside by dark,,as the coyotes come running through every night. sooooo cool. we would wait on the porch every night for them to come,,then you would hear them,,it is the most insane noise you ever heard! as they run through the fields and then it just stops!!!! do not be afraid,,they are pretty harmless(i spent years traveling in oregan, washington idaho and montanna,,and i am more afraid of an running elk herd than a coyote). the host are great people,,leave notes and instrutions everywhere,, only thing missing i can think of is an axe,

Living in the Barn

Awesome property! Very unique and definitely not a "cookie cutter" stay. Leslie was very attentive to every need. She left personal notes and a welcome gift. She also checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was fine. Awesome area to explore (mounds, winery, Granville, Heath, Alligator Mound,). Was a nice place to get away. We had fun visiting our kiddos at Denison. Looking forward to returning...maybe graduation weekend. Very memorable stay.

Amazing Barn!!

Absolutely wonderful property (Barn) - My family and I traveled to Ohio for my son's wedding and chose the property. It is very comfortable, relaxing, and more than we expected. The property is 40 mins from Amish Country - on Saturday we spent the day driving around to Amish shops, flea market, grocery stores, furniture stores, and even rode in an Amish Buggy. The town of Utica is small and very nice with all the things you need; too include the Velvet Ice Cream facotory - a must visit. Leslie was responsive and a pleasure to work with. We will visit again!!!!

The barn is far more beautiful in person than the pictures if you ask us! The atmosphere is very relaxing and the owner Leslie is very generous and kind having left us a lovely bottle of wine as we were celebrating our 21st anniversary. We actually didn’t stay

When we booked this for a birthday party we were amazed at the pictures. The Host is nice and very accommodating, however the pictures and the reality were different, so much so the cousin of the birthday girl said she would miss the party. We had to find another venue. The Host did explain there were things she had hoped to fix before our check in but the way it looked it just wasn’t suitable for our needs. We felt like the pictures were deceiving. We took a loss and that’s our fault because we didn’t see the place well enough in advance to receive a refund. Lesson learned!

Decided to convert an old barn into a home. it is a romantic, quiet beautiful getaway. I hope you enjoy the get away as much as I do. We do use this, so please treat this as you would your own home! It is more a home than a motel! When we did the renovation, we saved old barn siding from the hayloft and chicken area. We sealed these, and you can see faint calculations and dates on them keeping track of their egg? sales of the day!!!
