Lovely property and location
We have just stayed in Cherry Blossom and for us it was perfect. The cottage was clean, spacious and fully equipped. The farm was perfect for us, and the dog loved it. We will defiantly return in the future as there is so much to explore in and around the area. Thank you for a lovely break!

Green relaxation
Pleasantly surprised, don’t think VRBO actually do it justice. Beautiful view, grounds were lovely and cottage was clean and comfortable. I have no complaints at all. My dog enjoyed the safe free running spaces, absolutely wonderful short break. I would return and would recommend.

Beautiful, clean, ground floor
My husband myself and our two dogs had a wonderful time staying in the disabled lodge. The scenery from the living room was simply breathtaking, Overlooking the mountains and the lake. Our two dogs had a wonderful time playing off lead in One of the specified areas and they also had a small area around the lodge to be able to get fresh air and go to the toilet by themselves. The lodge itself was wonderful for me being disabled in a wheelchair. The only thing I would say is the settees and the double bed are a bit low but we managed. Will definitely come here again soon

Very comfortable unit with lovely views. Hosts were very responsive and helpful. We had everything we needed and were impressed with the dog exercises areas which were big and the situation was convenient for exploring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Highly recommend.

Peaceful, clean and modern.
The property is new and had a feel of a log cabin rather than a cottage. It was clean and comfortable. Nice open view from the patio. Location is ideal for a short break and a base for exploring the area, car is essential. There is good food in real ale pubs in Whitecroft and Park End and a large supermarket in Lydney.

Another great weekend break
Have stayed here several times and I am sure there will be many more stays. We were invited to a wedding at Clearwell Castle and decided to make it a weekend break and this accommodation was our obvious choice. Accommodation has everything you need and the owners are on hand and extremely helpful. There is some traffic noise from the A48 but this didn't bother us.

Home from Home.
Safe & simple plus warm & cosy. This 'staycation' is a delightful place to spend your hard earned holiday time. Beautifully clean, with all provisions required included within the booking. Holiday home is situated within a working farm-and a touring caravan & camping site, but all areas are clearly defined and spacious. This farm is set well back from the road, amidst gorgeous country side views. I can imagine this would get busy during 'high season' as this is set within the popular Forest of Dean but as there is so much to see, visit and do, we were only home to sleep, so not a problem. There was never any 'noise level. problems - either from dogs, vehicles or people - which can happen on a lot of sites. Owners were welcoming, friendly and despite on-going severe health concerns Steve (owner) was always available for helpful advice or suggestions. We fully intend to return next year with other family members - so perhaps I should keep this lovely hidden holiday gem a secret in case we can't re-book due to it being discovered ! Nice, modern, warm and comfortable
This property was a great find. One of 3 units felt more like a chalet but well laid out and very light and airy. Great field in front for the dog and the fenced patio was handy too. We loved it! Only slightly odd thing was an unglazed window between kitchen and bathroom (you couldn't see through it because it was high up but you could hear) Also, hot water was scalding. Would return though 😊

Good size, Lovely walk for dogs,
We were greeted by Michelle and her mum who made us feel welcome. The site was extremely dog friendly with some camping and a really good and safe dog walk for morning and evening strolls. The barn was a good size and very comfortable with easy wipe clean floors so paw prints were easy to mop up. We had a nice enclosed garden area to sit out with the dogs. An umbrella would have been a good extra as it was very hot the weekend we stayed. We will return next year. thanks you very much.

Lovely Quiet Spot
The good bits Nicely presented modern cottages. Very helpful hosts. Very spatious. Beds and duvets were superb. Toastie warm and dog friendly. Oodles of hot water. The sligtht niggles (but done be put off) 12volt system has some restrictions (dont use the toaster!) Hot water was too hot and could scald a toddler. Odd opening at high level in bathroom to lounge....not the most private. Sorry but internet would be nice.....just to keep the kids happy. But on the whole we had a great stay and location is great for the FoD and other local spots. Would i recommend it or come back. Yes defo.

Basic but great for dog owners
When we arrived the cottage stank of dogs. The owners changed the throws that were over the sofas and also removed the rugs and by the second day the smell had much improved. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the patio doors open as the concrete patio was so saturated with dog urine it smelled like a dog rescue centre and the smell blew into the rental making us feel quite sick. We were tempted to leave after the first night but the smell improved after a rain shower, however we still couldn't open the door as there was a plague of flies. The accommodation is very basic which was disappointing - the minimum quality of everything, very soft and unsupporting mattresses, thin pillows and cushions, pillow protectors (good they had them) were like paper and horrible to sleep with, gas oven that filled the accommodation with the smell of gas when used, no dressing table or even a shelf to store your stuff on in the bedrooms, no plug points by the bed, no bedside lights - things that would have improved our stay but not included in the planning stage. However, the place was quite clean and the shower water pressure pretty good, the toilet flushed correctly, fridge ok. The owners were helpful and allowed me to bring my cat. However, they run dog training classes on site which meant at times there was a cacophony of barking which was so loud we had to shut the windows and turn the TV volume right up. If I had known they did this I would not have booked.

Good for families
Property suited us (family of four) really well. Plenty of space inside the property for children to play and move about, nice enclosed outdoor area and also bits of green to kick a ball around. Parking on the door step. We ordered an Asda delivery for as soon as we got there and it worked well. Beds comfy. Quiet campsite so really good for families with young children.

About the host

Hosted by The Dodson Family

Host profile image
Forest Oak Farm is the home of the Dodson family. Michelle, Steve and Carole live onsite in the Farmhouse with their much loved menagerie of dogs, cats, duck, chickens and ponies.

Why they chose this property

The Dodson Family brought this property as a run down small holding in desperate need of attention. It was essentially one big scrap heap, with many environmental enforcement notices against it. The site was very badly damaged and neglected - but the family saw through that and believed with hard work they could bring it back to its former glory. They have spent many years and hours breathing new life into the site. They are delighted to be able to share our journey with you and show you what they have achieved!

The site is home to holiday Chalets, a campsite, a dog training school and an events venue - all dog friendly. So this is especially an ideal site if you are looking for a dog friendly place to stay.

What makes this property unique

Its a great place to bring your dog and also to bring family for summer holidays with the campsite alongside the rentals. The fishing lakes onsite are licensed and day tickets can be purchased onsite.
