About this property

Rinsey Head, Incredible Sea Views from an Iconic House, Near Porthleven & Beach

Imagine a pod of dolphins playing in the Bay whilst you sit eating your breakfast? Many of our lucky guests have experienced exactly this! Rinsey Head is undoubtedly the best positioned house in South West Cornwall, located on an unspoiled stretch of coast near Porthleven; with breath-taking views to the Lizard and all the way across Mounts Bay to Lands End. The house perches on the edge of Rinsey Head and sits in grounds of approximately 30 acres making the house completely private – you feel almost like you are on your own island! Rinsey Head was built in the early twentieth century and is architecturally designed to maximise the views in every direction.
Despite its dramatic location Rinsey Head is an incredibly comfortable and welcoming family home, which exudes a real sense of adventure; on a beautiful summer day relax on the patio and drink in the views whilst a variety of seabirds circle above or on a wild Cornish day snuggle up in the cosy living room and watch the waves crashing below. The ideal choice for your family adventure or the ultimate choice for a special occasion.

You approach the house down a long driveway with breath-taking views in all directions, there is parking outside the front door for at least 3 cars, and plenty of room along the middle part of the driveway for any additional cars. There is a spectacular patio area, accessed from a door between the sitting & dining room, an ideal spot for sundowners or a barbeque in the evening. The house is surrounded (on 3 sides) by private land, largely in its natural state, growing a mixture of wild flowers, heather, bracken and gorse. The coastline either side of the house is owned by the National Trust. There is a private garage available for guests which is the ideal place to store beach clobber, surf boards etc; there is a tumble drier and spare drinks fridge in the garage.
Rinsey Headland offers stunning walks, either a spectacular circular loop or for the more energetic continue on the coastal path to Porthleven for a well earned cider at The Ship pub. There is a beautiful beach at Rinsey which is a 10 minute walk from the house (pretty strenuous walk back up!) or take the coastal path heading west and a 15-20 minute walk will bring you to the mile long sandy beach at Praa Sands. A perfect family beach with bars / restaurant at the far end, good surfing and life -guarded in season. Praa Sands is a 10 minute drive from the house, with plenty of parking at the far end.
The property is a haven for walkers being situated on the coastal path with fabulous walks on both sides.

The ground floor is made up of a large, comfortable sitting room with sofas, bean bags, flat screen TV and armchairs. There is a new kitchen with a cosy Aga, further standalone electric oven and hob, large fridge / freezer, dishwasher, microwave and nespresso machine. The kitchen and dining room are open plan making it the perfect area for entertaining. the dining room has a large table seating 10 and more spectacular sea views. There is downstairs loo on this level.
The First Floor offers two large master bedrooms - The Rinsey room offers a super king bed (can be split into singles if requested in advance) with ensuite bathroom with bath and shower over, WC and basin. The second master bedroom - The Praa Room is a large room with King size bed, 2 seater sofa and ensuite bathroom with shower enclosure, WC and basin. Both bedrooms offer incredible sea views. There is a further family bathroom on this floor with bath, separate shower enclosure, basin and WC, with airing cupboard perfect for drying items.
A small landing leads to the Turret Room, a single bedroom with basin. The staircase leads to the top floor with two twin beds, basin and a set of bunk beds and further incredible sea views in all directions.

Facilities & Services: Inclusive electricity, central heating and wifi broadband. The house is fully cleaned before your arrival and all bed linen, towels and beach towels are included in the price.

Miscellaneous: Due to the nature of this spectacular location whilst welcome at Rinsey Head young children and pets must be strictly supervised at all times, the owners cannot take responsibility for safety in the grounds of the house. Pets allowed, max 2 unless agreed otherwise. Changeover day Thursday.

Rinsey Head, fantastic location.
The house is in a spectacular position, arriving down the road towards the house definitely puts a smile on your face. The house was nice and homely, one of the best holiday rentals that we have stayed in. Only thing I would say lets it down is a couple of the bathrooms were a bit dated.

Dream location with the best views ever
Comfortable, cosy, homely - we absolutely loved and adored this place. It's not glitzy, it's welcoming. It's like the much loved aunt who will always love you in return, as opposed to the glamorous colleague who's fab but doesn't return your call. I cannot imagine a better place to spend a week or two - go and experience peace, beauty, never-go-out-of-fashion style and......relax.....

Wonderful Rinsey Head a perfect location
Rinsey Head is a large and spacious property in a magical and scenic location. It has an unobstructed sea view from almost all of the rooms in the house. The ground floor has a large kitchen area and is well stocked with equipment and appliances making it easy to cater for large groups of people. Also on the ground floor there is a large dining room and lounge which lead onto an expansive balcony area overlooking the sea, perfect for al fresco meals although unfortunately during our stay we were unable to take advantage of that facility due to the weather but that's to be expected in December. Upstairs the bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious . The coastal path is easily accessed for those who wish to walk to nearby Praa Sands or Porthleven. I cannot fault the location or the property and the property manager was extremely helpful and ensured that our stay was perfect.

Amazing!
Second Christmas at Rinsey Head and it doesn’t get much better than this! Surrounded by the Atlantic with wild seas. Coastal path on the doorstep. Stunning scenery. We were delighted to see two choughs as we hiked the path to Porthleven - choughs were the Cornish symbol but left Cornwall, and now a few are back and breeding. The house is super- comfortable and warm - especially considering its location. A privilege to stay here.

Hope to return
Very helpful property manager. The terrace is the star of the show. It's quite exposed so we only sat out on the sunny calmer days. Great views from all the windows especially the large ones downstairs. Liked the fact that they were plane glass rather than the usual distracting 'lead' affect windows. Liked how the downstairs rooms were all open to each other. Found the Aga ovens quite tricky. The top one runs a bit too hot and the lower one too cool. I think some rooms would benefit from some redecoration or modernisation. However this in no way affected a very enjoyable stay. I think some binoculars would be a good addition. We look forward to returning.

Lovely property. Exactly as described. A little more cupboard space for food would be good. It was home from home and nothing could spoil the best views in Cornwall.

Privilege to stay here! Fabulous!
Fabulous house in amazing location. We saw pods of dolphins swim past on several days. Also the excitement of the Coastguard helicopter flying over with, I could swear, Santa waving at me from the open door of the helicopter on Christmas Day! House was lovely and warm, and the Aga perfect to cook our Christmas goose in. The owners kindly left a nice tree and lots of goodies like mince pies, chocs etc which were much appreciated. Beds comfortable, enough bathrooms to make mornings easy. Beautiful footpath and hiking on the doorstep. Truly a privilege to stay in such a stunning property.

Wonderful comfortable house in a fantastic location
Three generations gathered in this lovely house for a warm Autumn week. The location could not have been better, with wide sweeping views out to sea, glorious sunsets, sails, seals and even a whale. The house was extremely comfortable and well appointed - it felt more like a home than a holiday home - and everything was included that was needed. Thank you for a wonderful week.

Outstanding location, beautiful house!
Stayed with a group of 9 friends, and had the perfect week holiday. Would recommend st michaels mount for a day trip, and the two beaches on either side of the house. Also some stunning walks. Could not recommend staying here more! Incredible location, amazing house, beautiful beaches, well cleaned and maintained, and a good price for what you get! 5*s all round, will definitely be returning.

Best location for holiday house we've booked in co
We've been back three times now and had a wonderful stay each time. We were born and brought up in Cornwall and now moved away but when we come back for holidays Rinsey Head House is the best location we have found it's simply epic. We hope that it remains a holiday let because it's our favourite place to stay. The house is always warm and clean and well equipped. Although not large it's very comfortable for up to 10 persons staying and having enough space without being cramped. One very small suggestion to improve it even more would be to move the washing machine out of the ancillary bedroom and have it in the downstairs cloakroom or better still in the garage if possible.

Unforgettable place!
From the moment we spotted Rinsey Head house as we approached on the cliff-top drive we didn't want to leave. The house is the perfect base from which to explore a lovely part of Cornwall. From beach and country walks to Medieval church wall paintings and mining heritage there is always something to do whatever the weather. We also spent a large amount of time with eyes glued to telescopes and binoculars as the views from the house over the sea are absolutely breathtaking. The house itself is clean, warm and comfortable with a really well equipped kitchen. It's the sort of place that should be booked up years in advance and part of me doesn't want to share how wonderful it was in case it gets too busy and we can't come back. If you want a holiday you will never forget then book this house. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Incredible House
Just returned from a brilliant week staying at this magnificent house perched on right on the edge at Rinsey Head. The house is right on the coastal path with just a ten minute walk down to Rinsey Cove which is a lovely little cove, and Praa Sands , which has a good mile of stunning sands as well as a pretty cool beach bar ie The Sand Bar. When you first see the house from the top of the long drive, it takes you breath away! The house is a magnificent home. Once inside, every room has amazing sea views from every window. The outside patio is unbelievable. There are sea views and sea views, this is the latter! It reminded me abit of the view from Fira in Santorini. I could have spent the whole week sat on the patio looking out towards the Lizard and Lands End . The house was also immaculately clean throughout. It's sort of on 4 floors but the layout is really good as if you open up the lounge doors. Then it sort of becomes open plan as the large dining room and kitchen are all together off the main lounge. The house is warm and cozy. Loved the Aga.! It was too warm to light the real fires ( it was July) would imagine in Winter it would be nice watching the waves smashing around the cliff whilst curled up with the fires on. What's upsetting is the fact that I don't think we could ever find another location like this one. Would definitely want to return, it's just the fact it took us over 10 hours to get back to Derbyshire. However, it was worth it! Many thanks to both Janathan and Phay for letting us stay at you stunning house Nigel , Jakki & Norman ( dog )

Romantic location cannot be surpassed!
Simply fantastic to spend either a family/friends holiday, or as in our case, a super romantic time for two. We loved the house, the views, cooking with the AGA, and found some great and fun places to eat in the nice neighbouring villages. We therefore highly recommend Rinsey Head, and if you would like to see it "in action", watch Ghostwriter, a TV movie written by Rosamunde Pilcher. There is only one but: the weather is mild, but not great. Over seven nights, we had one single sunset.

Hi, I ´m lost for words... This property is the best I ever stayed in my live! Time was running away. It was hard for us to make excursions because we didn´t want to live the house every day. Also the service from Phay and Jonathan (house managers) was absolutly great! Thank you very much and we will be back soon! Thomas R. Munich, Germany

Fantastic location and great house
This is an iconic property literally on the edge of the cliff. The facilities are very good and the rooms comfortable and well equipped. The drive down to the property is lovely in good weather but requires strong nerves in poor visibility but have faith there is turning space as you round the corner by the house. The views from every room are amazing and if the weather accommodates the terrace is a lovely place to sit. The kitchen has an aga which provides hot water and cooking and is a delight, cooking either steadily or rapidly. There is also a conventional gas hob if the aga doesn't suit. The house provided everything we needed and is better equipped than most holiday rentals. Free wifi was appreciated as were the working fire places. Stylish Cornish Cottages, the letting company, are excellent and communicate very well, nothing is too much trouble. We would definitely stay again. Just a couple of things to think about before you book. The house is on the cliff edge so wandering children and pets are at risk! The bedroom configuration needs consideration as 4 single beds are in one room and the occasional bedroom is very occasional. Having said that the two double bedrooms are ensuite and fantastic and the 4 single bedded room is at the top of the house and a great place for younger folk. The walking in this part of the world is great and the beaches offer a plenty of variety. The trek down to Rinsey Beach is challenging but worthwhile. A lovely place to stay.

stunning location
We had a wonderful time at Rinsey Head (Family of 6 with young adults/ Teenagers). The house is like a aging beauty - the 'make up' may be flaking here and there but (it) makes it all up with the cosy charm, the unbeatable view, the peace and quiet of the nature surrounding you, the comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, the spacious and well set kitchen (I loved cooking with the AGA - a totally new experience :0) we enjoyed every day breakfast and dinner on the terrace admiring the absolut unique view, we even had dolphins 'visiting'. The short walks to the beach were perfect - because I personally prefer to minimize the use of the car during holidays. we felt very welcome on arrival everything was perfectly prepared including a welcome basket and some basic items. We would recommend the house anytime and would love to return soon!

A Long Term Dream Realised.
After appreciating this house from the coast path for many years we were delighted to discover we could rent it and it did not disappoint. The location and orientation are superlative. The decor and furniture are comfortable while not pretentious and this family home is clearly loved and cared for. The spacious kitchen is well laid out and fully equipped to serve the beautiful dining room or the spectacular outside seating area. This is not a top of the line all 'mod cons' house, our bathroom shower did not drain properly but in the overall experience this really didn't detract. It is still a magical property. The nearby Rinsey Cove is convenient and a fun place to swim or one can walk a little further and go to Praa Sands for a traditional beach experience. The hike along the coast path into Porthleven is also well worth doing. The unspoiled nature of the surrounding land meant we were able to enjoy some wonderful coastal wildlife including Choughs, Gannets, a Slow Worm and numerous species of butterflies. Finally, (as my husband is American) the ability to use the bar-b-que was a great feature that we enjoyed. We certainly hope to return to this spectacular location again.

Rinsey Head
We have visited Porthleven many times over the years, and have always admired the house at Rinsey Head and wondered who was lucky enough to live in such a spectacular location, So when we discovered it was for rent - and available in October when we wanted to come to Cornwall - we were delighted. So, expectations were very high. And they were most definitely fulfilled. The photos of the house and its wonderful position speak for themselves and the views from every angle were as stunning as depicted. More surprising to us was the warmth and comfort if the house, It really has the feel of a family home rather than a holiday let. Clean and well appointed but unpretentious and, whilst spacious enough for a big group, it was not dauntingly large for four, or even two, people. Everything worked, including the Aga with which we were unfamiliar but soon came to enjoy and there was an open fire which was perfect for a couple of wonderfully wild, windy nights. The walks directly from the house lead one way to RInsey Cove, which is a magical spot and, the other way, to the long stretch of Praa Sands where you can gather delicious mussels at low tide. For us, the week at Rinsey Head was a complete treat and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Indeed we are booking again next year.

Fabulous Holiday
The house on Rinsey Head is a fabulous holiday property. Just stayed a week with family and this has to be one of the best holiday rentals we have experienced despite renting many other properties of this size. The views from the terrace are stunning also from every room in the house. The house is comfortable and spacious, it has a large dining table and adequate seating. The kitchen is large with an aga and all utensils provided. It was clean and salt and pepper etc were present. We received a lovely basket of scones with jam and cream on arrival, these were MUCH appreciated. All bedding was of good quality, it was in abundance and really clean. As an extended family we took 6 children 3 x 8yrs - 13yrs and 3 x 17yrs - 21yrs and I can honestly say the TV was not switched on at all, they always found something to do. The weather was excellent which helped. We saw seals and whales from the terrace and numerous coastal birds. The local beach, Rinsey Cove, is a short walk along a footpath which means it is good for older children to go on their own. The beach is lovely and as safe as a beach can be. You can watch the children from the terrace enjoying the surf, dogs are allowed too. Praa sands is a very short drive with a good car park next to the beach. Dogs are allowed after 7pm in the summer. The seal sanctuary in Gweek is worth a visit and a trip to the Lizard when the sun is shining is a must. All in all this is a great holiday location, the house is reasonably priced, the location stunning and the booking process and communications easy and efficient. Can't wait to return and will recommend to friends.

Fabulous Holiday
The house on Rinsey Head is a fabulous holiday property. Just stayed a week with family and this has to be one of the best holiday rentals we have experienced despite paying 5 times as much for other properties. The views are stunning and the house is comfortable and spacious. We saw seals and whales from the terrace. The local beach is a short walk, bit steep but manageable. Can't wait to return.
