About this property

Foden's Cottage is a family holiday home on a remote peninsula in Connemara

This delightful, traditional cottage sits in a secluded spot just 50 yards from the sea in a sheltered bay with its own small harbour and pier. It enjoys outstanding views of oyster bay and the twelve ben mountains in Connemara.
The property has two living rooms, one with outstanding sea views and a TV & DVD player, the other an open-plan living/dining area with an open peat/wood burning stove.
There is a well equipped galley kitchen with electric cooker together with a microwave, a fridge freezer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board.
The bathroom has a power shower, bath, basin and toilet.
There is one twin bedroom on the ground floor and a twin bedroom with a single bed on the first floor. There is a single bed in the alcove by the wood burning stove (just off the living area) together with a double sofa bed in the sea view living room.
Facilities include: oil fired central heating, hot water immersion, electricity, towels & bed linen, a travel cot, parking on site and access to the surrounding land, harbour and pier.
The cottage sits in 50 acres of it's own land (rough grazing and peat bog) which you are also welcome to walk over. The land extends over from the cottage to the north shore of the headland.
The charming traditional village of Roundstone is 10 miles away with shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Roundstone has a wonderful old fishing harbour which is overlooked by O'Dowd's bar where you can enjoy locally sourced seafood and the best pint of Guinness in the world!
The area is ideal for bird watching, walking, hill climbing, cycling, fishing and pony-trekking.
There is an 18 hole Championship Golf Course at Ballyconneely and public tennis courts in Roundstone.
There are plenty of fabulous sandy beaches in the area including Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay near Roundstone, both of which are long, beautiful and often quite unpopulated.
There are several places of historic interest and local craft centres within a few miles.
Days trips to the Aran Islands and the isle of Inishboffin can be taken by ferry from Rossaveal and Cleggan.
Apologies, but strictly no dogs policy.
Strictly Saturday to Saturday bookings only.

Great experience
The house was in an ideal location if your wanting to get away from it all with fantastic scenery and isolation. Within 20 minutes from towns and village's. Watching the sea every morning and night, with wildlife right on your doorstep. Brilliant time

Nice location, just you and nature+stars
We did love the location. But the house is to old, mold with the smell of moisture. We thought that was only when we came in but after 24hrs and all windows open it was still there. I'm sorry to say but this is not oke for rental.

Beautiful and peaceful
Loved Fodens cottage. It was so homely and a great location, with the water metres away. You could explore the foreshore, watch the tide, remote and calming.

Fodens Cottage
We spent a lovely week at Fodens Cottage in Connemara. The sun done most days between rainy spells and we were able to get out and explore the beautiful countryside and coastline. We felt so lucky to be so close to the sea and th cottage was very cosy with lots of hot water! A very peaceful haven. Can highly recommend.

Super ruhig

Great views
We had a wonderfull stay at Foden's Cottage. The house is old but erverything was clean, well equipped for cooking and the big fridge and freezer combo really made it easy for us to stash away all our provisions ;) But most of all we enjoyed the wonderful views of the mountains and the sea/peninsula...the every morning hare...the birds chirping...and the absolute peace and quiet apart from the sound of the constant wind (which helped to avoid the midges!;) ).

Scenery, isolated & simply lovely
Delightful cottage overlooking the most amazing scenery. Experienced the four seasons (mainly the monsoon) during our stay but this didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. Great place to stay if you want peace & tranquillity. Look out for the grey heron & many hares hopping about the surrounding fields.

Excellent
Everything necessary there. Comfortable residence in a quiet location with stunning views. It is remote but shops, pubs and restaurants are just 20 minutes away by car in Roundstone.

About the host

Hosted by Louise Charlesworth

Host profile image
I live on a farm in Cheshire, UK.
But the West Coast of Ireland is my 'home from home'.
(My maiden name is Foden).

Why they chose this property

Foden's Cottage was purchased by my Grandparents in 1960.
As I child I spent many happy holidays there and continue to visit as often as possible.
The cottage holds many wonderful memories.
We have even hosted a family wedding there!
The cottage has been let out to holiday makers for many years - so they can enjoy the unique charm of Ireland and its many colourful locals.

What makes this property unique

The views from the cottage are stunning, changing every hour.
As it is so close to the water, you find yourself watching the tides coming in and out, the local fishermen coming and going and watching the wildlife around the water's edge.
There are also donkeys, horses and cows enjoying the peninsular with us.
