About this property

Villa below a Medieval Castle

The manor, built in the mid-nineteenth century, has the medieval castle of the Lancellotti that dominates the old town center. The villa by a paved courtyard, gives onto a verdant garden shaded by tall trees. The three bedrooms available are on the first floor, two with double beds and one with two single beds. Beyond the garden and the rooftops there is a view across the valley towards the steep rise of a mountain range. Even though the residence is a stone's throw from the central square, it is a realm of tranquility without any traffic and the faint murmur from the piazza below is hardly audible over the birdsong. A perfect retreat for alternating days of relaxation with busy sightseeing and cultural tours.

Living in History!

My husband has always wanted to stay in a castle. Having a villa just under the castle accomplished the task. The owners were so very accommodating as they were available in a separate apartment. She speaks Italian, and he speaks English. Although we arrived a little early, we were greeted with open arms. The home is on two levels; the kitchen, dining, and a full bath are on the ground level. There is a second bath on a 1/2 level up, and then three bedrooms and another full bath on the top floor. The charm of the building is wonderful and we found ourselves in awe of the history. The villa does allow for separate rentals - but we had the home and courtyard to ourselves. The family allowed us to use their courtyard to hang the clothing to dry. As for the town, it is an old family charm that has all the shops you will need including a pastry shop that makes the most wonderful croissants and takeaway cappuccino along with a pizzeria that has takeaway pizza! Should we find ourselves in this area again, we would absolutely stay here. Although at the top of a mountain/hill, it is a great location to visit many of Italy's areas - Pompeii, Amalfi, Benevento, Salerno.

Lovely villa, tons of space

We were kindly hosted by Nicky and Anna Maria in the recently redone (but historically outfitted) villa which was very roomy. The space easily accommodated myself, my sister, my mom and my 1 yr old niece. We were made to feel at home and cooked in the kitchen for a few meals as well as enjoyed the local offerings. If you stay in Lauro (or Irpinia in general) plan on traveling 20-30 minutes to most places. Also- the Castello Lancelotti is only open on weekends
