The Neighborhood:
Vauxhall is a diverse urban district located in the southwest of London, within the London Borough of Lambeth. This area, which also encompasses all of Stockwell and portions of Brixton and Clapham to the south, is historically associated with the birthplace of the renowned Vauxhall Motors car manufacturer.
Notably, the MI6 building in Vauxhall has gained fame as a prominent setting in several James Bond films. Initially, its appearance in these movies was unauthorized, but it was later endorsed by then Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, who humorously remarked, "After all James Bond has done for Britain..." The MI6 building made appearances in films such as GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough (where it was subjected to a fictional terrorist attack that eerily foreshadowed a real-life incident), Die Another Day, Skyfall (where it again faced a fictional terrorist attack), and Spectre (2015), where it met a fictional demise.
One notable feature from Die Another Day was the creation of a fictional London Underground station known as Vauxhall Cross, an imaginary closed stop on the Piccadilly line, repurposed as an extension to MI6's headquarters. However, it's worth noting that in reality, the Piccadilly line does not extend south of the river, with only the Victoria line passing relatively close by. Additionally, the film's portrayal of the station's secret entrance on the east side of Westminster Bridge is a considerable geographical departure from the actual location.
Getting Around:
The London Eye: 20 minutes by bus, or 25 minutes on foot
The Tower of London: 45 minutes on the tube
National Gallery: 25-30 minutes on the tube
Kings Cross: 30 minutes on the tube
Heathrow Airport: 60 minutes by tube, train and bus
Gatwick Airport: 60 minutes by train
