Sage Cottage is a vacation rental in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, Montana. The newly constructed house is located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, Montana, on property once part of a 100-year-old farm. Still, it holds the peace and tranquility of a sanctuary with organic orchards and gardens.

Some cottage amenities include a washer/dryer, laundry detergent, air conditioning, free WiFi with two smart/ flat-screen TVs, network channels, complimentary Netflix, an outdoor hot tub that overlooks the Bitterroot Mountains, a fire pit in the private yard and its private driveway. Stargazing from the hot tub or fire pit is fantastic.

The house overlooks Hamilton, Montana, with nearby hiking/biking trails, scenic driving, and many rivers and mountains to explore.

Host Bill and Rae Grout are full-time professional artists: glassblowers, Steampunk makers, and Terrain builders. Building the cottage was their major art project, and they incorporated their artistic touches as hand-blown glass drawer pulls on the cabinetry. In addition, upon request, they are happy to give guests a tour of their art studios and gardens.

One month at Sage Cottage

Sage Cottage was the perfect “base camp” for our winter vacation in the Bitterroot Valley. It is a very comfortable cottage with all the amenities one needs. Rae and Bill are wonderful hosts and quick to respond to any questions or needs. The cottage is very clean, with beautiful views from the kitchen windows. It is a quiet retreat. And, the hens are friendly and there are quiet a few birds around. It was a wonderful experience. thank you Rae and Bill!!

Delightful spot

Watching lighting move across the Bitterroot Valley. Laying in the hot tub following the Milky Way spinning. Yeah, this spot is sweet. Nice cozy cabin. Well equipped kitchen. Modern bathroom. All that and short drives to spectacular hiking. We stayed 5 nights and were not ready to leave! Bill and Rae are delightful hosts with good tips and interesting history. Five stars all around.

Lovely cottage in the Bitterroot Valley

This is such a wonderful, well-appointed cottage, and it was a perfect place for my wife and me to stay during our visit to the Bitterroot Valley. The owners' care for the place is evident in the artistic details built into the cottage and all the thoughtful items provided to guests, from condiments and hiking maps to a washer/dryer for laundry. And a hot tub! It's so glorious to take a soak after a long day hiking in the mountains. We definitely will come back the next time we're in the area.

Our “Welcome Home”

Sage Cottage was the best welcome to our new home in Montana we could have asked for. We spent several months at Sage Cottage as we moved from Florida to Montana and couldn’t be more grateful for our lovely welcome to our new home town. From day one, to the end of our stay a few weeks ago, we were pleased with what we received. The cottage was well stocked with all essentials needed, and several comforts as well. We were not left wanting or needing anything. The cottage stayed warm throughout the winter, and we even had elk pursuing through the yard one night! The chickens kept us laughing through our first winter in a decade, and the clean hot tub healed our aches from day trips skiing and hiking. The nearby calves welcomed the spring and were a joy to watch! Rae and Bill welcomed us and our family with their knowledge while providing us with privacy throughout our several months stay. We couldn’t have asked for more. We already miss it! Don’t hesitate on this amazing cottage with some of the best views and easy access to hikes around!

Quaint Cottage, Wonderful Hosts, Stunning Setting

My wife, baby, and I loved our time at this wonderful little cottage in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley. The house has everything you need plus a hot tub with a great view of the Big Sky at night. The hosts add a lot of fun little local extras, and clearly a lot of TLC, in the house to make the experience that much better. My wife and I spent most of our time just sitting on the lawn, reading a book, and soaking up the scenery. But if you want to explore the cute little downtown you are only 15 minutes away. This Montanan trip was one of the best domestic ones we have ever taken and this little cottage is the perfect way to experience “God’s Country.”

Perfection!

The location and hosts exceeded all expectations! The view of the Bitterroot Mts and Sapphire Mts is fantastic. The cottage was clean with lots of personal touches. From the hand blown door pulls and wine stoppers to all the books and games and toiletries, there is everything you need for a wonderful stay. Rae and Bill go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. We hated to leave!

Best Vacation Ever

The house is so adorable and clean with everything you need for an amazing stay. The view is SO beautiful, and we enjoyed the hot tub so much. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. It was the most relaxing and peaceful vacation we have ever had. We are going back!

What this world needs more of ......

This wonderful little cottage was just the perfect place to tune out all the noises and negativity one can be assaulted with in daily life . Instantly you feel peaceful in this wonderfully stocked home with every amenity imaginable. Beds were extremely comfortable, the property modestly priced , & the most amiable & accommodating host and hostess . We WILL be back soon !!

Great cottage

We (a party of two) have been for one week in July 2020. Everything is as described on the internet site. The WiFi internet connection really worked and we could connect our laptop computer and talk using Skype. The property is well designed, very clean and well maintained. There is a functional kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator/freezer, dishes/cooking utensils, etc.). The full-bathroom has toilet/shower/bathtub/sink. There is a washer/dryer in the bathroom. We could park our car just in front of the entrance. The owners made significant efforts to transform our vacation into a wonderful experience. We hope to come back again.

The Best Little Retreat

How can I summarize when there is so much to say. This place packs a punch! And I mean a good punch! You received well by both Rae and Bill. Two amazing people by the way. The house is the nicest cutest place to stay in with all the amenities I needed and then some. Rae makes all her own soap and cream products. Like walking into a boutique motel without the noice. I love the chickens that roamed around. The peacefulness of the area. The views were amazing. I cannot begin to express the gratitude and how much this place felt like staying in a retreat of some kind. I would come back should I be in the area in the future. I recommend anyone who loves the outdoors and peacefulness to visit this hidden gem!

The best cottage we have ever stayed at

Montana in August is great. Our stay at Bill and Rae's country cottage was what we had hoped for. Beautiful, quiet country home with scenic routes all around. It truely is a home away from home. The owners thought of everything you need and more. Questions we had were answered quickly and my husband and I enjoyed the knowledge we gained from Bill and Rae who are wonderful hosts. If you are looking for a quiet but relaxing beautiful country cottage in the Bitterroot Valley, this is your place to go. There is lots of things to do close by. We especially enjoyed the scenic drive into the Bitterroot National Forest and nearby towns. We hope to return again, maybe for our 50th wedding anniversary because we enjoyed this property so much. About the host

We are full-time artists with extensive backgrounds in the high-tech industry, which helps us with the technical aspects of our artwork and glass blowing. We love to incorporate science into our functional art pieces.

Our small organic farm overlooks the Bitterroot Mountains with several buildings dedicated to our work-from-home lifestyle. The Steampunk Shop is Rae's creative space; the Torch Shop is where we blow our glass; the Big Shop is for general mad science and Bill's electronics lab. Outside we have a telescope with astrophotography set up where we take deepspace photos of the night sky.

We would happily give guests a tour of our shops and the inner workings of our artistic life.

Since 1993, our work has produced glass art, including hand-blown contemporary marbles, hummingbird feeders, and Pixie Orb ornaments.

We are spreading love and harmony - one piece of art at a time.

Sage Cottage is on the property once part of a 100-year-old farm and still holds the peace and tranquility of a sanctuary. You won’t hear highway traffic but may listen to elk bugling, coyotes howling, owls, pheasants, and songbirds in the early morning hours. The adjacent field has Black Angus cattle in the winter and is hayed in the summer, so sometimes you may hear cows mooing or tractors working the area. The 360-degree views are breathtaking. The cottage is located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, close to Hamilton, Montana, with hiking/biking trails, scenic driving, and lots of rivers and mountains. The Bitterroot River has over 100 miles of Blue-Ribbon trout water, great for fly fishing. The night sky for stargazing is brilliant; Bill has a couple of telescopes set up for astrophotography from our backyard.

This newly constructed house has Bill and Rae's glass art and artistic touches incorporated into the design, creating an elegant look and feel. The privacy area includes a fire pit and an outdoor hot tub. The cottage has free Wi-Fi that connects two flat screens and smart TVs with network channels and complimentary Netflix. The bedroom has a wireless soundbar that connects to handheld devices or laptops to stream music; music can also be streamed through an either smart TV. We have supplied a variety of books, games, puzzles, and a gaming table when one wants quality time indoors. This cozy cottage has a queen-size bed and futon in the living room. It is new construction and artistically decorated with Italian tile work in the kitchen and full bath. The kitchen has Bill's hand-blown glass drawer pulls on the cabinetry and is fully stocked with cooking and eating utensils, a stove, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker. We even include coffee. The hot tub behind the cottage has spectacular views day and night.
