Sodulsholt is a working horse training and conditioning farm on the Snaefellsnes peninsula that includes over 70 horses, horse stables, and a first class indoor riding facility on more than 1300 hectares (3,200 acres). We are located 2 hours from Keflavik International Airport and approximately 40 minutes northwest of the town of Borgarnes.

Our accommodations include cottages that sleep 4 people comfortably. Cottage includes Wifi (for email, internet browsing), a double mattress, 2 twin beds, full kitchen (including microwave, toaster, coffee machine, refrigerator), sitting area, bathroom with shower, and outside seating area. Fresh linens are provided. Do you prefer to grill? A "Weber" grill is available for your use.

Sodulsholt serves as a central location to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, including the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, a nearby geothermal pool, Gullborgarhraun Lava field (formed by the Gullborg volcano 7000 to 9000 years ago and referenced in the Icelandic Sagas), the village of Stykkisholmur, Arnarstapi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.

Foal season typically runs from May through September when we welcome additional foals into the Sodulsholt family. June features our sleppitur event when the horses are let out for the summer.

Experienced horsemen could reserve a horse for riding around the area including to the nearby beaches (extra fee). Our property also includes a river where you can test your skills at catching fresh Icelandic salmon (extra fee, summer only, bring your own sanitized gear). Horse riding is not possible between November 1 and March 1.

Our Snaefellsnes location is ideal for observing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as they can be seen from October through March.

Sodulsholt is located approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, 50 km (31 miles) from the town of Borgarnes, 45 km (28 miles) from the historic town of Stykkisholmur, 69 km (43 miles) from Arnarstappi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.

Charming cottage on peninsula
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming cottage on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We had everything we needed for our family of four. Would definitely book again the next time we visit this area. Thank you!

Perfect
Sodulsholt was perfect for our family of 4. The cottages are warm, comfortable and very well thought out. I was particularly thankful that there was an extra sleeping mat up in the loft. My children are young and were a little nervous about being alone upstairs. I was able to lay right up there with them. We loved riding the horses even though it was a very windy day. The trainers were kind enough to take us for a short ride outside. We stayed here on the end of our trip and between the windy conditions and our children being tired of traveling, we skipped most of our Snæfellsnes touring plans and just stayed around the farm, visiting the horses and playing with the dogs. It was the perfect place to relax and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Horse Farm Cottage
the stay at the cottage was on the last two days in Iceland. It gave me and my wife time to just relax after all the driving. The cottage was quiet and very clean. The night sky and day view was 360 degrees perfect. We don't have children but the upstairs look like a fort for kids to enjoy. Next time we are in Iceland we will stay again.

Oh to Return to Cabin Bifrost with the Northern Lights Playing in the Sky Above
Tucked away in West Island with dark skies above and mountains all around this is a wonderful base for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Driving from Reykjavik we were told to get groceries at Borganes. The sign with the pink pig was the grocery store right along route 54 as we came into town. The remaining drive to the cabins took about an hour getting us there right before sunset. Climbing the hill behind the cabin we took some gorgeous sunset photos of the mountain tops. The cabin was beautifully done with a large porch, nice floor plan, main bedroom downstairs and another in the loft above. The kitchen was well supplied with everything needed to cook or fry and even sported a small dishwasher. The refrigerator is small but the storage room had another small refrigerator so no problems there. It took us a bit to figure out the internet. The box was on the wall with the password under the TV, once we discovered that the WiFi worked well. Beautiful views within the cabin and I loved the wood walls and ceiling, it also kept the cabin warmer. The location is great for touring the peninsula. We had good and bad weather but made the drive around the island to see Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss, Berserkjahraun (lava field) numerous waterfalls and Helinar arch. Walked to the barn one morning to see the horses which I wanted to photograph. Just wish I had asked to see one actually being ridden. Saw several while driving around Iceland and they are marvelous animals. I did get some shots of them in the padlocks, very friendly. We were also there during the Northern lights season and what a show. I had my camera shooting continuously for star trails and watching this natural phenomenon is something that you just don't see in Texas. Saying goodbye to the owner and his son the day we left Oli suggested we make a couple more sightseeing stops. Very friendly people and exceptional lodging. It was the best of all the other lodgings we stayed in during our trip. Enjoy!

Beautiful stay on the Snaefullsnes Peninsula!
Oli was very accommodating when we were trying to book two of the cottages at the same time, timely and polite responses. The cottages themselves are nicely appointed and very comfortable. Our cottage had everything we needed from utensils and cookware to towels and a gas grill! Visiting the Icelandic horses in the barn (with supervision ;) ) was a highlight as they're friendly and darling! Special tours are offered to those using the cottages but unfortunately time and our pending itinerary didn't allow for horseback riding. There is so much to see and do on the peninsula, I would highly recommend these cottages as your stopping grounds!

Clean, new and well equipped cabin
My family of 4 enjoyed our stay here. There are 4 identical cottages on a very large horse farm and this is a good spot to stay and use as a base for exploring the Snaefellsness region. Our daughter was able to get a quick lesson with one of the trainers and take a trail ride on one of the ponies and go at a pace and level suited to her abilities (rather than in a mule train with a bunch of novices). Everyone we met and dealt with was friendly and helpful. The people running this operation are doing everything right.

Beautiful little homes
Our home was perfect for our family of 4, including 2 grown children. There was ample room for them in the loft. We cooked our own meals, which helped save on food; the kitchen has everything you need, including sharp knives (hard to find in rentals). The farm itself is very cute and there are 2 horses that greeted us each time we came and left. Directions to find the property were very easy to follow and suggestions on exploring the peninsula were useful, as well. It rained every day we were there so we didn't ride horses, but we were so busy exploring Snaefellness. Communication with property owner was top notch. Every email was answered within hours.

Perfection!
Location, housing, environment... all top notch. So much so that when I come back I will never need to look for a place to stay again! This is it! Location for the western exploring is just right. Even within an hour drive of cottage you could spend a week or more exploring... within 15 mins are ample options. Some of the coolest stuff we saw was right next door to this property. House was everything we needed. Couldn’t be happier or more satisfied with end result of our time there. Just wow. Iceland is beautiful and this property is perfect!

Very nice cottage in a beautiful surrounding.
The cottage is on a beautifull setting yet on a great location. We could cover the west very comfortably and had good rest at the cottage. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. Oil was very helpful and available to answer all our questions. His father and sister were on the farm and provided further help as needed. We did not have any luck with horse riding and Northern lights due to unfavorable weather condition but enjoyed our stay.

Alles in allem sehr empfehlenswert.

Perfect site, cottage just right!
My girlfriend and I spent a week at this cottage. Loved the locale - both the horse farm and the general location. The cottage is not large but well laid out, clean, fresh and had everything we needed. We used it as a base camp for trips around the peninsula and to sites like Geysir and Gullfoss. The view from the property is fantaslc. We spent a fair amount of time with the horses and the family and staff who were knowledgeable and friendly. We prepared a number of meals during our stay, as well, though a coffee shop/restaurant down the road had excellent coffees, hot chocolate, soups and baked goods. Take back gravel roads whenever possible! Especially recommended Rte 52 if going to Gullfloss, Geysir, etc. Thanks to Oli, Einar and staff!!!

Gorgeous views, modern cottage with everything you would need for your stay
We stayed 3 nights and really loved our time there. The first we arrived when the horses were being moved inside but we were.able to go into the stables to see the horses. We left a day before the first goal was born and was so sad to have missed. I would night recommend this property and I hope to male back again some day.

Exceptional location and lodging.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sodulsholt Horse Farm. The cottage was absolutely perfect for 4 people. It was extremely comfortable and was perfectly situated on the most beautiful horse farm with a gorgeous view of the Eldborg Crater and other mountains. We had a wonderful time speaking to Einar and Julia and fell in love with the horses. The cottage is located in an area that makes it easy to get around the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We stopped in Borgarnes on the way and picked up groceries for our stay. The kitchen was equipped with everything that we needed to prepare our meals. We also loved the shower and were happy that the cottage was warm and cozy. We did not want to leave and wished that we could extend our visit. There are so many great things to do and we had hoped for another day of riding! We look forward to returning soon and highly recommend this property. My niece has been studying in Iceland for the semester and put it best....."spent the past few days horseback riding and hiking through the most beautiful part of Iceland I've encountered yet.....honestly feeling tempted to ditch my research project and become a farmer here". Thank you Oli, Einar and Julia!!!!!!

Amazing High-End Cottage
The location is awe-inspiring, and the cottage was even more than we expected. The owners clearly have taken great pains to create a wonderful experience for those who stay at Sodulsholt. The cottage was perfect for our family of four, with a well-equipped kitchen and a cozy loft area - perfect for children! Many great attractions nearby.

Quiet, comfortable cottages in a beautiful spot
Family of four spent two nights here. The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and very cozy for spending a relaxing day mostly indoors while 35mph winds threw squalls of stinging snow pellets around outside. :) The break was restful after five days driving the ring road. The space is nicely designed and the kitchen well equipped. Our young-adult children loved the loft room, while we appreciated the privacy of the separate bedroom. The entire cottage is paneled in lovely blond wood, with a roomy shower and many amenities - including Internet literally 10x faster than ours at home and a nifty little Bluetooth speaker that produced very good sound. Note that the stairs to the loft are pretty steep and use a type of alternating tread, so I'd suggest the loft is not suitable for small children and others who find stairs difficult. Most visitors shouldn't have a problem with that, though. I'll second the recommendation to stock up beforehand on food for your stay, and remember to bring soap/shampoo, too. The owner was very responsive to communication and helpfully provided information in advance about both the accommodations and activities in the area. The location is very convenient for reaching the north shore of the peninsula to visit places such as Stykkisholmur (excellent volcano museum!), Kirkjufell, etc. In summary, the cottage was delightful to stay in, and I highly recommend Sodusholt.

Beautiful Location, Cozy Comfort!
The Sodulshot Horse farm is an amazing location on the Snaefellnes peninsula! The cottages are beautifully appointed with everything you need to stay for 2 nights or 10. It is centrally located in western Iceland with easy access to Reykjcavik, the airport and all of the important sights you want to discover. We were there in the middle of a big snow storm and it was very cozy. We are so excited to return in the summer to ride there horses and further explore the wonderful area. The owners were very accessible, accommodating and flexible and we thank them very much for all of their help.
