Historic Luxury - Exceptional Hospitality
We had a most gracious stay at Casa do Varandao . From the moment Filomena greeted us at the gate we felt as though we were privileged guests. Casa do Varandao is a historic property with modern facilities. It has been renovated with great attention to detail and with an eye to the guests’ comfort and pleasure. Filomena has provided a delightful surprise around every corner - luxurious linens & orthopedic mattress, a robe & slippers, Vista Alegre dishes, a gorgeous rainshower bathing area and so much more. We had read that Filomena would provide a bountiful breakfast. The reviews did not prepare us for the sumptuous feast, featuring fruits and herbs from her garden, home made jams, fresh bread, eggs and local specialties.
Filomena and Paolo live in the historic home on the property, with a historic chapel attached. Filomena showed us her greenhouse and gardens. As lovers of history, we appreciated seeing the property. But words can hardly express how we enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of our hosts.
Town has grown up around this beautiful & historic property. Its location is a short distance from the center of Barcelos, where the famous market is held. We are happy to have stayed at Casa do Varandao, and look forward to visiting again for a longer stay. We arrived there as strangers, and departed as friends.
