About this property

4brm Morton House in Masham town sleeps up to 10 guests

Welcome to Morton House a True Yorkshire Retreat in Masham...

Morton House with its family friendly environment is a grade II listed stone farmhouse just off the market square in the picturesque market town of Masham. The accommodation is within easy walking distance of all amenities, pubs, shops and of course Masham’s famous breweries – The Black Sheep and Theakstons.

Morton House has been totally renovated retaining much of the charm and features you would expect including exposed beams, open fireplace, fantastic loft master suite and farmhouse style kitchen/diner. The rear (shared) garden is fully fenced, private and sunny (when the sun shines!) There is parking at the door on the street. The house is centrally heated throughout and available all year.

The property has 4brms - the very large master suite in the loft with a king size bed and additional single day bed has an ensuite bathroom. On the first floor at the front of the property there is a superking 'Gold' bedroom and a double bedroom which share the house bathroom. At the rear on this level is the twin bedroom with an ensuite shower room. All bedrooms have comfy mattresses and cosy cotton bed linens and pillows/duvet (no feather pillows).

On the ground floor there are two sitting rooms to the front of the property - the more formal 'Green' room with Chesterfield sofas and open fire place, and the cosy TV room with wood burning stove and comfy sofas. There is a large flat screen TV with SKY movies and sports and a games console. Also a games box with board games and books.

At the rear of the property move through the lobby to the large farmhouse style kitchen and dining area which has a door out to the shared courtyard garden. You will find the kitchen fully kitted with utensils to cook up a storm and all the usual gadgets - large range style cooker and double oven, dishwasher, microwave, under bench larder fridges etc. There is a fridge/freezer in the shared utility area along with a downstairs loo, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The town of Masham is superbly placed for walking and visiting local attractions. A market has been held here since 1393 when a charter was granted by Richard II and the town subsequently thrived due to the easy access of the flocks from nearby Fountains and Jervaulx Abbeys. It still hosts a market every Wednesday and Saturday, and there are plenty of welcoming pubs and delightful tearooms.

Morton House can be rented on its own or in conjunction with ‘The Stable Block’, therefore able to sleep up to 16 persons in 7 bedrooms.

Please be aware that the garden is a shared area with Morton House. The 2 adjoining properties can be taken separately or together to sleep up to 14 guests.

Morton house
My daughter’s , grandchildren and I stayed at Morton House for 2 nights whilst visiting the Polar Express (15 minutes drive away). The house was large , warm and welcoming. Children had a ball chasing each other around . Beds are extremely comfortable with quality bedding . Everyone slept very well . Perfect location , visited local churches and park , walked by the river .. Communication from host,, Michelle, was excellent. she even downloaded Polar Exoress film on Sky so the kids could watch it before the suprise train ride.
Stayed 2 nights in Dec 2024

Excellent accommodation and location
Fabulous house in a good location that allowed easy access to the towns main square, pubs and shops. We were very fortunate to have access to the whole hose for our short stay. The owners were very accommodating and answered a couple of queries we had on arrival. The house was very clean, well equipped and had plenty of space. We will definitely look at being able to stay here again.

A 3 night stay
The Cottage was lovely the rooms were very clean, however the main rd where it is situated was very busy in the early hours of the morning but that wouldn’t put ourselves from going back or recommending.

Old but well preserved large home close to the beating heart of Masham
Brilliant communication with our hosts, during booking, after booking and even during our stay - they were amazingly responsive. The house is the best, most comfortable and spacious we have ever booked on annual visits to Masham - it is bigger on the inside! Everything in the house worked - including all the ovens and the amazing array of cooking pots, bakeware etc. If we had had more sunny days we would have appreciated better outdoor seating facilities - there was a crummy table and 2 v crummy chairs - though I wouldn't trust them to hold the weight of a grown person. Staying in Morton House very quickly felt like staying in the village - we felt we lived in the house rather than simply being visitors. It's a great base for exploring N Yorkshire and the on-street parking was acceptable even though our party had 2 cars. Bonus was an ev charging point 100m from the front door - magic.

Lucky find.
Went to Masham as a group of 4 for an event. The property was found last minute and the available option booked. I was then contacted by the host who very kindly offered an option for the venue in order to make the stay more comfortable for 4. Easy to find using info provided and ideally located for the pubs and cafes. Old building with lots of character well presented with an excellent sized kitchen. Would happily visit again.

Charming historical cottage in the heart of Masham
Our stay at Morton House was nothing short of perfect! Excellent location for everything you need and want in Masham. Close to shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs and breweries. Also, a great launch pad for everything else to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales area. Morton House is so well equipped for families and the kitchen provided the perfect gathering place for meals and drinks after our adventures! This was our second stay at Morton House and we will definitely stay again!

Fantastic Stay at Morton House
We've just returned from a brilliant and memorable weekend stay at Morton house. We initially chose the property for the location and size as we wanted somewhere in the middle of Masham that would accommodate 8 people and 2 dogs for my dad's 70th birthday weekend. The house was perfect for us. It was cosy yet plenty of room for all of us to live in comfortably. The kitchen well-equipped and spacious and there was plenty of room around the dining table for all of us. We loved the charm of this Grade II listed building. It was very clean and well maintained. Even though the house is on a road, it wasn't too noisy and very quiet at night and we found it easy to find space to park on the road (the time if year may have helped). I have to make a special mention to our hosts Michelle and Columb. They couldn't do enough to help us make the weekend special for my dad. They arranged a tour and meal at the Black Sheep Brewery for us. There was also a lovely surprise of a big birthday pie in the fridge when we arrived! It was lovely and those extra touches made the weekend so special for us.
