About this property

Woodland Cottage at Brook House: A wheelchair accessible rural retreat

Situated on the woodland edge at the bottom of the spectacular sand stone gorge known locally as ‘The Rock’, Woodland cottage offers a peaceful retreat in a beautiful natural setting with views of the garden, pond and woodland.
Whether you wish to simply relax in a tranquil natural environment or use the cottage as a base for visiting local attractions and activities: Woodland cottage offers relaxing, comfortable and stylish accommodation.

The accommodation: A two bedroom holiday let accommodating 4 people. Up to two children under the age of 13 may use the sofa bed free of charge.
Up to two pets are allowed . Please note additional cleaning charges may be incurred if carpets and soft furnishings / bed linens need additional treatment.
The accommodation is appointed to a high standard throughout. There is a modern and well equipped kitchen/ dining area and living room arranged in an open plan yet cosy style. The dining table seats 4-6 people. A good sized bedroom with King-size bed is next to the wet room / toilet. Upstairs is a generous sized bedroom with en-suite shower room. The Velux roof windows ( with black out blinds) mean the room is light and airy and you can lie back in bed and enjoy the night sky
There is wifi throughout the property. The only mobile phone signal here is privided by an EE antennae so you may wish to ensure you can use internet based telephony if this is important for you.
Bedding: King-size duvets, sheets and 4 standard size pillows/bed are supplied. Laundry: There is a washing machine at Woodland cottage.
Food Shopping: The small country town Eccleshall is 3 miles away and has supermarkets, village stores, a high class butcher as well as cafes, pubs and restaurants. The closest pub is The Star Inn at Copmere just 1 mile away.
Wheel chair access: The main entrance to the accommodation is through double patio doors with a flat threshold. The stone patio is covered and has a power supply. In side doors to the bedroom and wet-room are 82cm wide. Under the bed has a clearance of 21 cms to allow use of a hoist if needed. ( A hoist is not supplied but we can work with you to arrange for one to be delivered if needed. One side of the bed is accessible by a wheel chair. There is a gap of 105 cms between the edge of the bed and the bedroom wall. The height from the floor to the top of the mattress is 59 cms.
The kitchen and dining area are accessible by wheel chair The oven and grill are under the counter although the sink and kitchen work surfaces are the standard height of 90cms.
The wet-room has an open shower area of 130cms X 85 cms with a shower seat and support rail.
There is room for a wheel chair up one side of the toilet. The toilet seat is 45 cms above floor height. The wash basin is of a semi pedestal design.
If you have any specific needs or need more information please do not hesitate to contact us before making a reservation.
Outside: A covered and lit patio area with table and chairs enable al fresco dining. The drive and hardstanding around the building and patio are finished with interlocking gravel which while not ideal does offer a firm enough base for most wheel chair users. The path along the woodland edge to the pond and seating / barbeque area has a plastic mesh through which grass has been grown, but recent rainfall patterns have made the ground very soft, so please check carefully before attempting this in a wheel chair.
Table, chairs, and a double hammock will help you make the most of the garden.

Woodlands Cottage

Overall a lovely place to stay - the location delightful - very peaceful and close to Eccleshall with all its amenities Could benefit from signage for the property as the entrance gates are set back from the lane and therefore not easily visible especially when getting dark

Quaint

Property was nice. Just prepare to have to drive a narrow road to get to the property. Make sure to memorize the key code because you will not have internet access to look it up until you get wifi.

Delightful cottage under a wooded cliff

We had a delightful stay in Woodland Cottage. it was warm, well-equipped, in a unique and peaceful setting, and our considerate hosts treated us to homemade soup, apple juice and bread. The beds were very comfortable, and so were the sofas! A lovely place to be quiet in, but near enough to pubs and shops to make eating and cooking not a problem. There is no mobile reception or landline in the cottage, which we had been made aware of, but the internet was fine.

Fantastic stay in a wonderful cottage in a peaceful and beautiful setting...

We spent almost two weeks in Woodland Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cottage is almost new and so it is in excellent condition, very clean, most comfortable, and outfitted with all the modern conveniences. Snuggled in the forest, the cottage is conveniently located to nearby towns, villages, and interesting sites to explore. Ian and Victoria are a very friendly and helpful couple. We enjoyed Ian's sample of baking with a delicious nut loaf and tasty lemon cake. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage so much that we felt sad to leave. We will certainly be recommending this lovely cottage and wonderful couple to our friends and family for a vacation of a lifetime - we may even return again! Thanks again for a great experience, Mark and Bobbi

Vicki and Ian have been running our busy bed and breakfast and wellness center at Brook House (adjacent to Woodland Cottage) for almost 4 years . Our guests enjoyment of our rural retreat encouraged us to develop our building on the Woodland edge as a self catering holiday let. We hope you will enjoy our peaceful rural location with its ease of access to a host of attractions as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

Our comfortable well appointed cottage provides a light and airy yet cosy living space in a peaceful, woodland garden setting. Despite the 'away from it all' feel there is a host of attractions close by . The downstairs of the property and access to garden areas is wheelchair friendly. The cottage will comfortably accommodate 4 adults and an additional sofa bed is available in the living room.

What makes this property unique

Next to Brook House B&B , wellness therapies and meals available at an additional cost by arrangement. Offley brook water mill is 100 metres upstream and can supply stone ground flour. Home reared meats and eggs are available from our neighbors.
