About this property
Luxury Contemporary Cottage on Historic Country Estate with free WiFi
This luxurious, modern holiday cottage is upside down - bedrooms downstairs, an open plan kitchen and lounge area upstairs. Designed by award winning Rio Architects to be contemporary and minimalist whilst retaining period features, this cottage was once used for storing carts on an old country estate. It is warm and cosy thanks to a renewable biomass heating system, downstairs underfloor heating and best of all - sheep's wool insulation! The king-sized master bedroom is spacious, with modern furniture complemented by a historic section of exposed blue pennant sandstone wall. A stunning contemporary wet room includes a stand alone bath tub with waterfall tap, walk in rainforest shower and generously sized fluffy white towels The ground floor is completed by two twin/double bedrooms.
Upstairs is open plan. A large fully fitted kitchen with high quality appliances and seating for six leads into a large living area with sofas and comfortable seating, woodland views and a HDTV with Freesat. The reading chair is popular with guests who love to relax by the roof-to-floor window and watch goings on at the farm. This is a great place to peruse our hugely popular information folder with its suggested itineraries and local travel tips. An upstairs WC completes the upstairs. A door leads into a private enclosed garden area (look for the magic stone tree in the wall). As well as ample parking, there is a private BBQ and Pizza oven for guests use. Behind the garden is open woodland - very popular with younger guests who love to play there and make dens. The farm trail takes you from the cottage doorstep, along the bank of the picturesque River Clydach and into a bluebell woodland. Guests are free to enjoy over a hundred acres of private grounds including hillside areas with panoramic views of the Brecon Beacons to the north and Swansea Bay to the south.
The cottage features Welsh themed artwork by prominent artists. A display coffee table is filled with centuries old artefacts and curiosities found by metal detectorists at the farm over the years. A highlight is an old button featuring a raven which was part of an army of ravens that protected a Welsh Prince of the dark ages from whom previous owners of the farm claim descent. This story is told in the Welsh medieval Tales of the Mabinogion and depicted in an art print by famed Lord of the Rings illustrator Alan Lee which hangs in the living area of the cottage.
The cottage is stylish, modern and well equipped whilst retaining the historic atmosphere of the ancient estate to which it belongs. It is ideal for families, couples seeking a peaceful rural retreat, business travellers and groups wishing to be located at the heart of South Wales' top attractions. There are great mountain biking trails nearby and bike storage and washing facilities at the farm. The cottage offers the best of both worlds - a peaceful and scenic countryside location and yet only just over a mile away from a large 24 hour supermarket (why not arrange a delivery) and some great pubs and restaurants.
