About this property
Irota EcoLodge Middle House
The Irota EcoLodge premises consist of three spacious, luxurious and well-equipped holiday villas and a shared natural swimming pool (size 6x16m). Although slightly different in detail, the houses basically have the same layout and are all adjusted to guests with special needs.
Each house (170 m2) has its own style: The Lower House is the rustic, countryside type, the Middle House has a retro, 1960s feel, while the Upper House has a sleek and modern design. In this advertisement & calendar the Lower House is shown.
The houses are detached, which guarantees full privacy. However, in case your group decides to rent more than one house, doors in the wooden fences in between the properties make it easy to move from one house to the other.
All houses are provided with parking space for two vehicles and in each house you have a telephone landline as well as free WiFi.
As your well-equipped large kitchen suggests, your villa is designed for self-catering. However, if it is one of those days that you don’t feel like cooking or grilling and you are eager to explore local, country-style cuisine, we are happy to ask one of the village’s best cooks to prepare dinner for you. Please ask us for the options/meal suggestions available.

About the host
Hosted by Lennard de Klerk & Jeroen van Drunen

After having moved to Hungary in 2007, we first set foot in Irota in 2010. We had been regular visitors to the region for a while already, so it was time for the next step: finding ourselves a place to settle and to put our ideas of a luxurious, eco-friendly holiday resort into practice.
What brought us to Irota was a mysterious piece of real estate, a dilapidated and deserted mansion or, in dreadful shape but oozing with charm. As so many others in similar circumstances, we fell for it, and spent the next three years turning it into a home.
By this time, we had become well-acquainted with the village and its inhabitants. Our first impressions had been correct: Irota is a wonderful place to live. This encouraged us to take things to the next level. We started three holiday villas with a joint swimming pool on what we considered to be one of the prettiest spots in the village. Construction started in the spring of 2015 and was completed a year later.

Why they chose this property
Irota EcoLodge is not just ecological by name. We did our utmost to minimize the environmental impact of our holiday resort. Here are the main features:
- The walls are made of wooden-frames in which cellulose, made of used newspaper, has been blown as insulation material. On the outside, wooden soft board plates have been used to increase thermal insulation
- The thick and damp-open insulation, combined with triple glazing, ensures a pleasant inside climate, both in winter and summer. Air condition not needed!
- In winter, the villas are heated by a stove using locally grown firewood
- Rainwater is collected from the roof and used to flush the toilets and to operate the washing machine. On top of that, we use rainwater in the central utility building to wash your bed linen
- Each villa is equipped with a biological wastewater treatment unit that uses bacteria to clean the water
- Hot water is generated by sun collectors, electricity by solar panels
- The swimming pool has a separate reservoir in which reed cleans the water. No chemicals are used!
Not only do we hope that you will have a nice time, but we also want to prove that luxury and ecology go well together! We are happy to provide you with more detailed information on how we have minimized the environmental impact of the resort.
