Schlitterbahn Water Park, 90th Street Fishing Pier, Jimmy's on the Pier, Premier Cinemas, Go Kart Arcade, Majic Carpet Golf. Drive further East on Seawall Blvd and check out Pleasure Pier and the many delicious restaurants, such as world-famous Gaidos Seafood, The Spot, Nick's Kitchen & Bar, and Fish Tales, to name a few.
Want more adventure? Check out the downtown Strand area. Beautiful turn of the century Victorian shopping/dining areas. Some of my favorite boutiques, along with the Stand - Tina's (voted the best boutique), across the street is Head to Footsies, another jewel. After shopping, dine at Fisherman's Wharf, delicious seafood at the right price, and see the historical Tall Ship Elissa up close.
A must for the kids, La King's Confectionery features a 1920's soda fountain, serving malts, shakes, ice cream sodas, sundaes, splits, floats, and your favorite fountain drinks. They proudly make and serve "Purity" ice cream, Texas' first ice cream manufacturer, since 1889 founded on Galveston Island. This place is amazing!
Galveston Historical Foundation is very active on Galveston Island; as a result, the island is home to the largest collection of Victorian homes in the country. Explore the beautiful Bishop Place and Sacred Heart Church on 14th and Broadway.
Next is 1859 Ashton Villa. Built by James Moreau Brown, beginning in 1859. The family occupied the house by 1861. Mr. Brown was born in New York State on September 22, 1821. He was the youngest of 16 children. After running away from home, he was apprenticed to a brick mason. He left New York around 1838, arriving in Galveston sometime in the mid-1840s. In Galveston, he opened a hardware business and became quite prosperous. This beautiful home is located at 2328 Broadway St, Galveston, TX 77550
The Moody Mansion - Of all the jewels in Galveston’s architectural crown, the Moody Mansion at 2618 Broadway, Galveston, TX, is arguably the shiniest of all. As one of the Top 10 wealthiest Americans at the turn of the century, W.L. Moody Jr. and his family spared no expense to make the mansion more than a home. It was a gathering place for the nation’s movers and shakers and a social spot for the family to relax in splendor. What makes the self-guided tours at the Moody Mansion unique, organizers say, is narrated by Moody family members.
Take in the East End Historic, Cool Tours, and ride the trolley. Check out their schedule online.
We hope you enjoy your stay on beautiful Galveston Island and make lasting memories!
