A Croatian Arcadia

It's hard to know where to start, but having had very many summer/beach holidays over the years, Kolocep and our apartment are the epitome of perfection in my book. Antonela and her mother are perfect hosts and did everything to make our stay comfortable and welcome, without being intrusive. The position, directly on the rocky beach - and the jetty - was marvellous, and I can only reiterate other comments from those who've stayed before us. It was sublime! The small grocery shop, which has been there for very many years, supplies most essentials - apart from fresh meat - but we managed well on lots of rice and vegetables as well as making several trips to Konzum at Dubrovnik port (a large supermarket). The apartment is without a sitting room but the huge shared terrace directly outside our front door was ideal for relaxation - with views of the bay and gardens below - however one of the bedrooms can easily double as a sitting room if the weather turns. Stari Miri , the restaurant by the port, and Nic's bar next to it are the island 'hot spots' and a very sociable crowd too. In fact all the locals we met and managed to converse with were friendly and generous. We were invited to an impromptu feast of local mussels at Nic's by one of the locals and learned more about the history of the island. I really can't overstate just how wonderful and peaceful we found our holiday to be and certainly we'll be back. I did not want to leave in the first place. Thank you Antonela and Nina.

Perfect holiday

We had a lovely holiday, the island is beautiful, calm and peaceful. Nina and family were very welcoming and the apartment views over the sea were stunning. The jetty over the clear sea was highlight for our many swims. Highly recommended

Brilliant stay, lovely people, gorgeous view

My daughters and I had a brilliant stay in Kolocep. We loved the location and especially enjoyed the sun beds on the deck. We had a lovely swim every day to the beach and back. Brilliant air conditioning and Nina couldn't do enough to help us with any queries. Thoroughly recommend this brilliant apartment in Kolocep.

Kolocep 5*

We stayed at the property for 10 days. The location is idyllic and tranquil. If you are seeking a holiday away from it all this is for you. We woke each morning to the sound of the waves. Dinner and evenings we ate on the veranda overlooking the sea. For those looking for an even balance Dubrovnik is only half hour with the ferry crossing. The ferry provides crossings four times a day. We were charmed by the City"s history and scenary, but found it extremely busy and very touristic. It was lovely knowing we could retreat to our little piece of heaven. The apartment was well presented, clean and comfortable. We couldn't have asked for more. Ante and his family were extremely welcoming to us from the moment we arrived to when we left. We were invited for coffee one morning where the most delicious cakes were offered to us. The family could not to enough for you and we found them to be genuine kind people. Kolocep is a beautiful unspoilt island with one small grocery store, 3 restaurants and a small hotel. We were charmed by the location and will definitely be returning

Absolutely fantastic

This is our third year in succession that our whole family has stayed in these apartments. It really is a very idyllic holiday. The family can organise transport from the airport and for a boat to take you over to the beautiful island. The boat drops you right outside the apartments. The family that live below the apartments are an absolute joy. They keep themselves to themselves but are always happy to stop for a chat and a wave and a smile. Each day we swim from the apartments with our snorkels and masks to the nearby sandy beach (approx ten minute swim). Alternatively you can walk around to the beach. The water is warm and so clear. Each morning you open the windows of your apartment to the most stunning view across the bay. The ferry to Dubrovnik comes a goes all day. It is very calm and relaxing. The only negative about the island is that restaurants are limited but Villa Ruza just four minutes away from the apartment is one of the best in the Dubrovnik area. A trip into Dubrovnik is a must. I cannot recommend this holiday enough. Absolutely stunning.

Picturesque, peaceful, in a stunning location.

Beautiful location on a very peaceful relaxed island, making it an ideal location to unwind and relax, however it was no problem to jump on the local ferry or shuttle boat and enjoy a city break type holiday in Dubrovnik. Making this an ideal location for those wanting the best of both worlds. The Sivlokos family are very welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to help you enjoy your time in their apartment. The apartment is one of three that they have converted as part of their family home which is been around for hundreds of years. The apartment is clean and the two bedrooms look out directly onto the bay. There is an outside area which is ideal to relax again with views onto the bay. Peaceful days were spent relaxing either on the small sandy beach a short walk away or on the rocks in the other direction which were even more chilled out. The rocks by Villa Ruza (nearby restaurant) offered views of a spectacular sunset. We would be more than happy to return to Kolocep again and feel this was a better option than staying in Dubrovnik. Give it a try.

Relaxed atmosphere with stunning scenery.

From stepping on to the island and being greeted by the family it was perfect from start to finish. If you want total relaxation with stunning scenery then this is the place for you. Crystal clear waters for swimming either at the beach or directly in front of the villa. Beach shoes required in front of the villa as there are sea urchins! Family Svilokos are an amazing family and so helpful. Nina even baked us a cake and invited us for coffee. A wonderful experience enjoyed by myself, my daughter, son in law and 2yr old granddaughter. We can't wait to go back for another visit. Simply stunning. Highly recommended.

A beautiful and peaceful Croatian find.

We were welcomed off the boat taxi by the Svilokos family and realised straight away we were going to be well looked after, and so we were. We were invited for coffee and cakes, all freshly homemade and a superb cherry liqueur. Our 10 year old daughter was soon playing in the garden with the girls. The view from the balcony is majestic with the mountains of the mainland framing the pretty harbour and the gentle lapping of the sea on the rocky beach just below at the bottom of the steps. All types of boats plodded to and fro from the mainland or the other islands and made addictive watching. We walked all over the island which is gorgeous, although the sign posts were somewhat confusing. The harbour on the other side of the island is fabulous, even more sleepy and has the most superb fish restaurant. Absolutely try the octopus or the risotto or, in fact, all the menu! By the way, the lager is excellent and a perfect example of east European beer. We all felt perfectly safe the whole time and our 13 year old son and 10 year old daughter walked around the harbour to the beach or to the shop on their own many a time where we could watch them from the balcony. We were there at the end of May and the weather was just like a English summer, some hot days, some not so hot and a couple of cracking thunder storms. If you choose to go you won't be disappointed. I recommend getting the taxi/taxi boat option as you get to stock up at the little supermarket and its a little adventure all of its own, especially getting down to the taxi boat! We won't be going again unfortunately because the worlds too big, but we are so glad we have been here. Thank you Family Svilokos.

World Best View!

We are a family of four consisting of parents and pre-school girls. The visit was our second time and we believe that we will come back every summer in a foreseeable future because the premise is terrifically perfect for us to spend a summer vacation on a beach side. First of all, the sand beach nearby is perfect place for younger kids to play. Water is VERY clear and calm so a lot of pretty fish can easily be found. Second, the view from the large terrace is stunning, magnificent, incrible...I cannot express how beautiful it is with any words...It is really the world best view for us! I am sure that you will definitely realize that once you stand (or sit at the lovely table) there. We can count mamy more good things but by far the best is Svilokos family. They are unbelievably kind and friendly. We appreciate very much for their help when we (parents) went sick during the first stay. They were not only kind enough to do all the childcare but also made a fantastic herb tea, off course home made - full of a pan! The tea worked amazingly so we could fully recovered just quickly. We cannot imagine any better host/hostess for the kind of accomodation. If you are a type of person who cook quite often in a self-catering accomodation (like us) , the kitchen facility is good enough. We are only familar with the two bedroom apartment but we could find any problem. Suffice it to say that, however, the fridge could be a little larger and be equiped with a large freezer. Therefore, we have given it up to get fresh meat/fish from a large supermarket beside Dubrovnik port and decided to be vegitalians wile in the premise. Availability of food material is very limited in the island so we recommend to stock up at the supermarket. If you would like to have meat/fish, there are a few restaurants inside the island. If you ask a member of host family, you will know a hidden gem in the island. I promise!

Stunning Croatia, lovely family holiday.

The apartment was exactly as expected and the hospitality exceeded our expectations. The family that run the apartment were fantastic, they arranged private transfers for us, fresh strawberries (from the garden) and pastries waiting in the fridge and generally went out of their way help us in all aspects of the holiday. The beach was beautiful, the restaurants excellent and the scenery stunning. The three restaurants on the island are all good in different ways, I recommend visiting them all. For us this was our first trip abroad with our 3 year old daughter, we used to go to the Greek islands for holidays but we shall return to Croatia next year and can’t wait to discover the other islands, it really is a beautiful country. A couple of important points: - We didn’t take our pushchair (because the island is so small), but you do need one. The owners kindly lent us theirs. - The one shop on the island is not well stocked and sells out of date produce! You will need to pop over to Dubrovnik or stock up on route. - Take either Crocks or rubber soled beach shoes. There are lots of Sea Urchins in the rocky areas/bays. - Visit the Old Town in Dubrovnik, I wish we had had more time there. - The perfect holiday for getting away from it all!

Stunning beauty old and modern charm

We are a family of 5 adults two children of 13 and 12 and one baby toddler 15 months who like to spend our summer holiday together but in separate apartments. Room to chill but with things for the big kids to safely do on thier own. Well ! First off , the apartments are tastefully decorated and the photographs give a true representation, as with the majority of Croatian apartments they are compact but work well. The terrace outside is large and is a brilliant extension to the apartments, the sea murmurs below you and you can sit for hours just watching the numerous boats and passing craft as you chill over a drink be it day or night. The area also provided sufficient space for our grandson to happily amuse himself. The big children [and adults] had a ball playing on the beach, wading into the sea at the foot of the stairs or jumping off the nearby jetties into the sea to cool down. Kayaks were available locally and jet skis could be hired on the nearby island of Lopud or mainland Gruz. The kids could walk freely about and chill on their own at the hotel or local cafes. The peace and tranquillity were great but if you wished a change you could jump on a ferry and visit the nearby islands of Lopud and Sipan, both individually beautiful and providing a different venue for lunch or coffee, my wife telling me that Sipan reminds her of the Mama Mia location [not that I would know]. A visit to Dubrovnik is also a must , more than one if you really want to understand it and appreciate it’s ancient charm, as others have said go early morning as it gets both busy and warm and at Gruz take a taxi [not expensive] as the busses are crowded. Back on the island in the evening the hotel and two other restaurants and one bar provide adequate choice for an evening meal, occasional entertainment and wonderful sunset views or the shop can provide the basics for a nice supper. After a few days the staff and locals will be greeting you warmly as they get to know you. Finally, but most importantly , the gracious family will welcome you with open arms. Their kindness and concern for your wellbeing is heart warming - from making cakes, inviting you to coffee, family dinners with mums home cooking and the sampling with dad some of their locally produced alcoholic tipples! Thanks to all the family and one day soon we hope to meet again. D and M
