About this property

Glaven Cottage, Letheringsett, Norfolk

Standly proudly on the banks of the River Glaven in the pretty and well connected rural village of Letheringsett, this hideaway less than a fifteen minute drive from the beautiful Norfolk coastline. Located within easy reach of many attractions and delicious places to eat, this unique and stylish three bedroom cottage provides a wonderfully relaxing retreat for a couple, friends or a family - perfect after a day of adventures!

Nestled in a highly discreet and private location at the rear of the prestigious gated development of The Maltings, Glaven Cottage dates back to the 17th century and was previously the old Letheringsett Brewery Mill. Showcasing a wealth of period charm, you will transported to a place of ultimate relaxation in this rural haven. Just kick back, take a moment, and enjoy that refreshing country air. The beautiful oak floors with underfloor heating lead you throughout the ground floor, featuring ornate original windows, unique decorative pieces of furniture, and expertly curated interiors that blend heritage with modern. There is a large oak dining table that makes the perfect setting for sharing meals and conversation, and the wood burning stove in the dual aspect sitting room adds warmth and ambient light on chillier evenings. Upstairs, vaulted ceilings with exposed beams feature in the three romantic bedrooms (a king-size, double, and single) with the delightful views framed by original cottage windows. Undoubtedly the garden at this hideaway is a real bonus. With a paved sun terrace and well-kept lawn, you can sit and enjoy tranquil, undisturbed views overlooking the babbling stream. It truly is an idyllic setting for a barbecue on a summer evening.

Glaven Cottage is just a two minute walk from the a excellent and welcoming village gastropub, The Kings Head. The Georgian town of Holt is five minutes away by car, and is home to a great Sunday market, a variety of excellent shops, delicious cafes, tea rooms and eateries, as well as art galleries and a country park. Just outside the centre of Holt is the North Norfolk Railway station where you can catch the Poppy Line steam and diesel train services to Weybourne and Sheringham. The coastline at Wells-next-the-Sea, Stiffkey, Morsten, Blakeney, Cley-next-the-Sea, Salthouse, Sheringham and Cromer is all reachable in under half an hour from the cottage. Less than ten minutes away, Thursford Wood is great for walking. The Pigs in neighbouring Edgfield is a destination countryside pub serving great British food, and also boasts a spa. For nature lovers, the nature reserves at Pensthorpe, Blakeney, and Sculthorpe are close by, and history buffs are ideally located to discover Binham Priory, the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Baconsthorpe Castle, Holkham Hall, National Trust Felbrigg, National Trust Blickling, and National Trust Sheringham Park. Sheringham Golf Club is fifteen minutes away, the Royal Cromner Golf Club is a little further along the coast, and Fakenham Golf Clubs is twenty minutes inland. There is so much to see and do around Glaven Cottage, you'll be rebooking for your next holiday!

Warm and cosy Christmas

This cottage was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. Very well equipped with everything necessary and in good condition, although it took us a day to find the spacious fridge freezer ( in the shed by the back door). The cottage is warm and cosy and a good size for 4 adults, with comfy beds and lovely views over the garden from all the windows. Stylishly and newly decorated and not cluttered. It is quiet and in a lovely spot with good size beautiful gardens and secure parking. Perfect.

Nice cottage but a bit damp smelling

Ensuite bathroom very strong smell and the bells ring all night and woke us up sometimes, both of which you can't work out from looking at the property before you book it. The rest of it was nice.

Perfect relaxing spot

Spent a week at Glaven cottage in March, it was a perfect spot to explore Holt from, with many lovely pubs and shops to explore. The garden is particularly picturesque with a resident pheasant and kingfisher, plus plenty of other birds. Cottage itself was well laid out with a cosy feel, really enjoyed it.

Lovely Cottage

We had a really lovely few days at Glaven Cottage. It's decorated to a high standard and was extremely comfortable and cosy - gorgeously warm in very cold weather and a very easy place to relax. Very comfortable beds and a great shower. The garden is also very lovely - and private - and I can imagine that it would be wonderful to be in during the summer. We were delighted to realise that we were a stone's throw from The King's Head, Letheringsett, where we had a very leisurely and delicious Sunday lunch, and found ourselves within really easy reach of Blakeney, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham where we did some great walks. The excellent Back to the Garden food shop was two minute's drive up the road which was also very convenient.

Great Stay at Glaven Cottage

Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden overlooking the river. The cottage is ideal for lovers of North Norfolk. It is within easy reach of Holt and Back to the Garden Farm Shop, as well as nearby Blakeney. It is next door to The Kings Head which serves reasonably priced food including an excellent breakfast. The proximity to the pub does not affect the peace and tranquility of the cottage. The cottage itself is very well equipped, cosy and comfortable. I would definitely love to stay there again and would strongly recommend it.

Lovely Cottage

We had an excellent stay at Glaven cottage. Cottage was very clean and well equipped. The beds were comfortable and the garden was lovely though the weather was too wet to make full use of it. Nice welcome pack , thank you so much for that. However just to be aware, there is really only one shower and this is in the on-suite of the second bedroom. Okay if you only have one family staying. As another reviewer pointed out a larger fridge would have been nice. We take so much food away with us that we struggled to get it all in the fridge. Obviously these minor points did not detract from our stay.

Perfect Spot for a Norfolk Break

A most beautiful, cosy house with everything that you need. What a treat to have gorgeous Christmas decorations, to really make it feel like home. Perfect location to explore North Norfolk. We will be back.

Cottage retreat

We could tell this cottage is used by the owners as the furniture was of a very high quality. My elderly parents at first thought the differing floor levels was a hazard for people in seventies but settled in and no mishaps occurred. We would have preferred a full sized fridge freezer rather than a fridge with ice box compartment and perhaps will suggest that a larder fridge freezer would be a nice addition. Beds very comfortable. This cottage had a huge garden which we did not make use of at all! I think we prefer interior space to exterior space, but if another holidaymaker loves outside space, the Garden is beautiful. North Norfolk is a beautiful place and we will definitely return.

Top notch accommodation

Beautifully presented cottage, part of recently restored development next to River Glaven. Next to welcoming pub, serving food. Very comfortable and cosy. Rather more road noise than expected, although owners had warned of “some road noise” in their description. No welcoming supplies, although you can order a hamper to be delivered at your own expense from a local deli. Close to Holt, Blakeney and the north Norfolk coast’s amenities. Gorgeous deli and restaurant “Back to the garden” just along the road, by car .
