Behold the magnificent ocean and meadow views of the Sea Ranch when you escape to this beautiful two-bedroom home, a spacious and dog-friendly retreat that offers an ocean-facing deck, a private tree-lined patio and hot tub, and wonderful access to nearby beaches and trails. Conveniently located five miles south of Gualala's restaurants, art galleries, and grocery stores, this two-level home is scenically situated on the ocean side of California Highway 1. You'll be just steps from the Bluff Trail that runs between Black Point and Gualala Point Regional Park, less than one mile from the tide pools of Shell Beach, and less than two miles from Walk On Beach.

Thanks to both an open living area and private sleeping quarters, this home is ideal for couples' vacations and family getaways to one of the most stunning stretches of the Northern California Coast. The interior living area was thoughtfully placed on the second floor, allowing guests to enjoy sweeping views at every turn. Read an engrossing novel from the comfort of the leather sofa as you watch for whale spouts on the water. With granite countertops, a stainless steel refrigerator, and a dishwasher for your convenience, the full kitchen provides ample space to prepare meals. You'll find plenty of seating around the dining room table, as well as a flatscreen cable TV in the living room for after-dinner movie nights. But why eat indoors when you have a spectacular outdoor deck that overlooks the ocean and meadow? Prepare fresh local seafood on the gas grill, enjoy evening meals around the patio table, and watch the spectacular sunset as you share a bottle of local Pinot Noir. The tree-lined patio offers guests a wonderful sense of privacy, and is the perfect place to soak in the hot tub or let your dogs stretch their legs. Please be advised, however, that there is a two-dog maximum.

And as you spend your days jogging along the Bluff Trail or strolling the length of Walk On Beach, you'll always have a private washer and dryer to come home to, as well as WiFi for your added convenience. Swimming pools and tennis courts are also available at the Sea Ranch Del Mar, Ohlson, and Moonraker Recreation Centers. Whether you're hoping to explore the great Northern California outdoors or planning a weekend of quiet relaxation, Sea Ranch manages to offer it all. You can watch passing grey whales, harbor seals, and California sea lions from the nearby Bluff Trail. Guests can also explore this majestic region by car, as the 54-mile stretch of Highway 1 north to Mendocino is one of the loveliest drives in the state.

Lovely weekend retreat

We had a lovely, long weekend at Audubon house. We were pleasantly surprised by how close we were to the Bluff Trail, the wonderful views and how comfortable the home was. Upstairs was lovely, light and spacious. Downstairs bedrooms were freezing cold and we were grateful for the portable heaters, nice touch and much appreciated! The staff couldn't have been nicer, both when we booked and when we checked in.

Sea Ranch idyll

Audubon house is well enough provisioned and very comfortable (not luxurious, nor stylish in a “Sea ranch” way), We really liked the location, pretty much next to the bluff trail, a nice partial view of the Pacific. Two bedroom suites separated, so good to share with another couple. I had read in other reviews about the amount of steps not being desirable for those with mobility problems. I’m 7 weeks post knee replacement surgery and found away to avoid the treacherous and steep steps to the front door by entering and exiting through the lower floor door into the garage. Problem was there is no garage clicker nor a key to lock the door. Presented for awkward accommodation to this deficit. There were some mild complaints: the oven doesn’t close properly, a considerable ant problem, one set of towels for two weeks, and practically no instructions on how to use things in the house. But we did enjoy our time there and thank the owners for sharing it with us.

audubon house is for the birds (kindly)

filled with bird photos and art, the house suited just the two of us quite well. a short walk to the beaches and the bluff. the bed was very comortable. the kettle should be replaced and there could be more cereal bowls and some large coffee mugs. the top floor is one big room so everyone should get along well. we would have liked to have a desk or small table in one of the bedrooms; my husband had to set up his office on the dining room table. but we were comfortable, warm, sat in the hot tub, had binoculars to look at the biirds...oh and after readin gother reviews, webrought a space heater for hte cold bedroom (having the heat on the top floor omitted the notion that hot air rises).

Perfection

The Sea Ranch is such a special place. The Audubon house offered every accommodation for the sweetest experience for myself and my 3 teens. I love birds and I love the homes bird theme amongst the preserved natural setting of coastal bluffs, walking the trails along them and hearing the surf breaks from the home was truly perfect. We all wished we could stay there forever

Beautiful serene setting

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home with windows offering a panoramic view of the ocean and the meadows. The house is across the street from an entrance to the bluff trail - an easy beautiful walk. The house has lots of great reading, comfy reading chairs, puzzles, and games.

Nice open living room, dining room and kitchen upstairs, two bedrooms downstairs with king beds. It would have been nice if the bedrooms had heat and the blankets and comforter were cleaned.

Sea Ranch

We love the house and property, but the house appeared to have been vacant without being cleaned for some time evidenced by the spider webs in multiple spots holding dead flies. Cleaning rags on floor behind door in master bedroom. Very disappointing for the money spent to rent the home.

Great House!

Loved the layout of the house! The views were great! Lots of natural light, very comfortable, nice to have 2 master suites. The only complaint we had is that I had to wash the sliding glass doors as they were very dirty (all 4 of them). Bring extra bath towels with you. They had 1 per person for the whole time there. Would I come back here? Definitely!

Audubon is a good stay!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Audubon. This is such a great house! The views!!! We've been coming up to the Sea Ranch since the 90's! and have stayed at many, many houses. They all usually have good views, but this house is situated in such a great spot. It has views out the front and out the "back". (it's basically one BIG room up stairs.). So, nice. The Ekornes chairs in the living room are very comfortable. The couch is great too. And the window seat on the other side is great. The beds are comfy. The house thermostat and the hot tub need updating. (but that won't ruin your stay). Sadly, I had to do a ZOOM meeting while on vacation. I sat on the deck and the connection was flawless. Very good for a Sea Ranch home. This is a good house! And pet friendly.

Beautiful views

The house’s position perched up high offers incredible views not only of the ocean but for star gazing. The place is very clean. It has everything you need. The linens on the beds could use a refresh, but other than that it’s a great spot. This has nothing to do with the house, but I do wish the management company Vacasa would offer more than one towel per guest. It cheapens the experience and the towels are thin and rough. Just my two cents but nicer towels and a couple extra would take the stay to a different level. We are super active while at Sea Ranch and take multiple showers. Nothing worse than using a damp towel post warm shower.

Lovely very comfortable home in my favorite area at Sea Ranch. Kitchen, bathrooms well equipped. I did not use the hot tub so I can’t speak to that. My only complaint is that even though the house was clean, the baseboards and especially under the beds was very dusty. I spent a lot of time sneezing and itching eyes when getting into bed. I dropped and item of clothing near the bed and when I looked under it to retrieve my item I could see a very heavy dust collection

Nice enough

Nice enough for a 4/5 rating. Pleasant home in good location. Inverted layout puts the living room and kitchen high off the ground. Steep stairs into the house and down to the lower level bedrooms. Surprised the lower level had no heating and space heaters were required! The house was clean but please sweep under the bed frames! The guest book is dated and desperately needs an update. High deck provides pleasant outdoor space and indoor furniture was comfortable. The pantry was stocked with extra/left-over supplies- thanks. Some nice cookware but time to discard the older pots. Vacasa staff was responsive when we called I’ve questions about hearing and trash pickup. Overall, nice stay but this felt like a corporate rental that could use some updates.

Mediocre

Sea Ranch is always such a great place to visit- it’s a spectacular coastline and the trails are amazing. Audubon House is mediocre at best. While it’s spacious and the bedrooms are roomy, we found the house to be a little less clean than we are used to. Windows were dirty and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for months. There was a smell of cooking oil throughout the house and I went to use a frying pan, but could only find a badly worn and dented one that needed a good washing to get the previous users food dislodged. The power was out the one night we stayed and I struggled to find flashlights. In the morning, managed to Macgyver a cup of coffee together by pouring boiling water in the top of the electric coffee maker. I wouldn’t mind, but there is a hefty host fee and cleaning fee when you rent- for that I would expect a little more and a little better equipped. We ended up leaving a day early.

Bright and airy - great views

Beautiful views of both the ocean and the hills to the southeast. The hedgerow behind the house shades the house from the intense afternoon heat. The reverse floor plan feels spacious and comfortable, but the stairs are a bother for the elderly or people with bad knees. The beds were firm and comfortable. The bathrooms have been updated but the decor in the living room and dining could use some help. Everything was in working order. The dishwasher needs to be run on the "tough" setting otherwise the cups and dishes are not clean. The house is very close to the trails along the bluffs. We enjoyed lots of hikes. Wish we had brought our bikes. We did not receive an email from Vacasa with check-in information. I called the morning of our reservation and was given the lock box number and the address for the local office. We went to the address and it was a construction company and hardware store. No sign of Vacasa. I called the main office again. The lady there called the local office. You need to drive on a side street and then it is behind the hardware store. They need a sign. The house was clean upon our arrival EXCEPT for a filthy dining room table and place mates AND lots of long black hair in the shower. Yuch! Also, no towel in the upstairs bathroom and only one towel and wash cloth per guest for a week long stay. Is that Vacasa or the cleaning crew? Overall, a wonderful and relaxing stay.

Disappointing..

Arrived cold and tired to find the code given for the front door does not work. Apparently the door lock needs a battery or other maintenance? Took several minutes with 4 people standing at the door to get someone on the phone (India?) to give us a code for an adjacent lock box containing an actual key. So now we have 4 adults and 1 key. Handles & knobs for all kitchen cabinets are sticky, there are ants, clearly an ongoing problem but the traps are full of dead ants and still they keep coming. There is a black moldly strip growing on the back of the kitchen sink at the back splash. The sad cookware/bakeware is covered in burnt on grease. Used a piece of foil as there was nothing to clean a pan with, in order to remove old food so we could cook some eggs. The new looking dishwasher has a broken lower rack which does not function properly. The drinking glasses are not clean. The knives don’t cut. The inside of many cabinets are gross as is the under sink cabinet which smells pretty disgusting. I would not consider this a “well equipped kitchen” under the most limited definition even for those who don’t really cook. The freezer isn’t clean. Scatter rugs are visibly not clean and most have no backs so are also slippery. The one in front of the stove we immediately slipped on, folded up & put out of the way for the duration. At least one bath rug appears to have been used outside and was filthy. Upon making an attempt to get heat we found the furnace smells strongly of propane gas and the furnace filter is plugged up. Cleaned the filter but afraid to go to sleep with any heat running in case it really IS leaking gas and outside temps are mid 40’s. The listing clearly states there is a BBQ available, when we called regarding its lack of ignition were told its not in the listing as an amenity. This listing above clearly states there IS a BBQ further stating that it is “private”. We brought expensive meat to make a nice dinner for our guests, and ended up going out and freezing the meat to take home. THE HOT TUB is disgusting, while it seemed hot, upon lifting the cover the area is so filthy no one was tempted to touch it or get in. Hair dryer bag in one bedroom was empty when we arrived. The night before leaving did some dishes and after pulling the plug the entire kitchen sink full of water ended up on the floor when the plumbing underneath the sink literally fell apart..
