Here you will find wide sandy beaches to Kattegat with large dunes, high chalk cliffs where you can find fossils, coastal areas with wildflora on the beach, and fresh and scenic fjords, including Randers Fjord. Randers Fjord is Gudenåen's outlet in the Kattegat, and here you will find a paradise for anglers. Randers Fjord can be crossed several places with small cozy ferries, including at Mellerup Voer and Udbyhøj. In Randers, located at the bottom of Randers Fjord, you can get art and cultural experiences, among other things at the Randers Art Museum, which houses one of Denmark's largest collections of Danish visual arts. Randers big attraction is Randers Rainforest, which is Northern Europe's largest artificial rainforest. Also visit Graceland Randers, a true copy of Elvis' Graceland in the United States. In the eastern part of Norddjursland you will find the old market town of Grenaa, which was previously a trading center for East Denmark. Visit the city's network of pleasant pedestrian streets and enjoy the beautiful beaches around the city. From Grenaa there is a ferry crossing to Anholt.
About East Jutland
East Jutland is a good combination of lush landscapes and large forests, shores of fine beaches and busy and exciting cities. Broadly speaking, East Jutland extends from Kattegat to the east to the Viborg region in the west and from Fredericia in the south to Hobro in the north. The green and hilly East Jutland is shaped by ice age glaciers. Where meltwater ran out, valleys, swallows and deep fjords formed, and as the ice was gone for about 14,000 years ago, it had left a beautiful and hilly moraine landscape. Along the Kattegat, on Djursland and Mols and south of Aarhus there are many good and family friendly beaches with fine sand, there is low water along the coast and the sea is not too violent. Also in the fjords - especially in the Horsens and Vejle fjords you will find good beaches and calm waters to swim in. Randers Fjord can be crossed several places with small ferries, which come when you call - p. a. at Mellerup-Voer and Udbyhøj. At the mouth of Horsens Fjord, small ferries depart from Snaptum to Hjarnø and Endelave. In Djursland is the National Park Mols Bjerge with heaths and juniper bushes. And around Silkeborg and Skanderborg you can experience the midtjylland Lake Høland with Denmark's largest at Gudenåen, beautiful lakes and a magnificent view from Himmelbjerget by Ry. South of Viborg you will find Hald Sø with the protected Dollerup Bakker, where the landscape is magnificent and unspoiled. And west of Viborg lies Kongenshus Mindepark in the middle of the Jutland heath with heatherlands as far as the eye reaches. The earth is sandy and calcareous, and in Mønsted and Daugbjerg Kalkminer north of the Memorial Park, there has been limestone for centuries. The abandoned mines are open to the public, who can experience the deep mines and giant flagmusic colonies. Grejsdalen northwest of Vejle is Denmark's largest gorge. The area is unique and scenic with high wooded slopes, and at the bottom Grejs Å runs. Also in Vejle Ådal there are great nature experiences.
