About this property

Traditional, self catering holiday cottage in Upper Slaughter, The Cotswolds

A delightful three bedroom holiday cottage available to rent in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds village of Upper Slaughter. This ‘chocolate box’ cottage is full of charm and original features. It can sleep up to 6 people in 3 double rooms. One of these doubles can be split to make a twin room.

No. 8, The Square is located in a prominent position right in the heart of what is often voted the most picturesque village in the Cotswolds. For a fine dining experience, the Lords of the Manor Hotel is situated across the square. Lower Slaughter is just minutes away. Here you can enjoy fine food and local ales in the cosy atmosphere at The Slaughters Country Inn.

Upper Slaughter is close to the historic market towns and tourist hot spots of Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water and Moreton in Marsh which offer a wealth of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions.

This self catering cottage has been lovingly restored by its owners to their own very high standards. Facilities include fully fitted kitchen, smart TV, Wi-Fi, iPod dock, log burner, parking and a quaint cottage garden (south facing). Also a small courtyard area to the rear of the cottage that forms part of the square.

The cottages that form The Square at Upper Slaughter originally date back to the mid 1600s and were remodelled in 1906 by the renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Prior to this the property was the old village bakery and the large chimney from the oven remains. The Grade ll listed properties were all constructed of local stone and natural stone tiles.

On the ground floor there is a kitchen/diner, a spacious living room, morning room, one bedroom complete with en suite facilites. On the first floor there are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom and shower.

Perfect home for the weekend
We stayed in November in Upper Slaughter. The cottage was warm, cosy, perfect size for the 5 of us. Very clean and well furnished. A beautiful 15 minute walk across a bridal way to Lower Slaughter. And from our cottage we visited Boughton-on-the-water, Broadway and Stow-on-the-wold and of course the Christmas market at Blenheim Palace. WOW. So a great, quiet place to stay after our busy walking, shopping and sightseeing daily adventures. The hosts were speedy responders to any questions we had prior to arriving and gave very accurate directions to the cottage. Would highly recommend.

Great location, a bit tight for 6 adults
Getting into the house was very simple and the property was very clean and tidy. The location was excellent, a great walk over to Lower Slaughter and Bourton and easy access to the many delights of the Cotswolds. Parking for 2 cars was no problem (Brian next door even let us use his space on occasion). The rooms were comfortable apart from the occasional bang on the head from low beams and the downstairs bedroom is slightly cramped. The house could do with a bit more fridge space for 6 adults and the dining table in the kitchen is a squeeze for the whole gang. Other than that, the kitchen was adequately equipped, though some bigger pans wouldn't go amiss, and the living room was comfy as well. Another set of keys would also have been handy.

The Very Best of The Cotswolds
One of the best properties we've ever stayed in. Immaculately presented, stunning cottage in the heart of the Cotswolds in the quiet village of Upper Slaughter. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our weekend away. ***** rated every day of the week. Very Highly Recommended.

Lovely cottage, in a very peaceful village. We really enjoyed our stay. Great place to have as a base to explore the rest of the Cotswolds.

Lovely old cottage in beautiful area. Car needed for amenities but good walks on doorstep.
Welcome cake was lovely touch. Slight problem at beginning of stay was very swiftly resolved with friendly owner. Unfortunately could not give 5* as a couple of the waste bins hadn't been emptied, previous occupants clothing left in bedroom draw! Maybe new saucepans as these had been left burnt and not fit for use. However the cottage was well equipped overall and welcome cake was a lovely touch.
