About this property

Hare Cottage - Fantastic views from cosy cottage near Bath

This converted 'Oxen shed' is situated at the end of a quiet lane on the family's working sheep farm in the picturesque village of Kelston. Although only ten minutes from the center of Bath and 20 minutes from Bristol it is set in beautiful countryside surrounded by rolling hills.

It is a cosy, detached, single story property with a whirlpool bath, electric wood effect stove and pretty wrought iron bed. You can relax on your own private veranda with spectacular views out over open countryside.

'The Old Crown Inn', a traditional West country pub, is just a ten minute walk down to the village. Here you can enjoy a wide range of reasonably priced food and a good selection of beverages including local real ales and cider.

There are many fantastic walks from the cottages. These include a walk up to 'Kelston Round Hill' from which you can take in panoramic views over Bath and Bristol. For the more adventurous the Cotswold Way passes through the farm allowing you to further explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It is just a ten minute drive to Bath - a world heritage site and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

A wonderful peaceful cottage with a lovely view
Hare cottage was a sweet and peaceful place to stay to take in this part of the country. A nice place to relax during a very busy week of daytrips to Stonehenge and Weston super-mare and even Caerphilly Castle in Wales. Nicely located, close enough to enjoy the markets and attractions in Bath whilst enjoying the quiet countryside of the evening and waking up to incredible misty scenes across the fields and valleys. The cottage itself was excellent and faultless and the host is exteemely welcoming and friendly.

Perfect peace.
The property is provided with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay and is ideally situated; far enough away from noisy roads yet handy for Bath, Bristol and other attractions. If hilly walking/running is your thing, you could do no better than stay here. Highly recommended.

Brilliant Cottage, Views & Location
Just come back from a lovely stay at Hare Cottage. Views are spectacular (rolling hills, sheep and great views of Bath and Bristol). Bottle of wine was an extra surprise. Good selection of walks and easy access to Bath and Bristol via Park and Ride. Best place for lunch and snacks the Bath Cheese Company. Delicious homemade soup and Quiches had lunch there four days (just down the road). Very relaxing holiday. Just one little thing the Microwave could do with an update otherwise perfect.

Second time we have stayed this year, the cottage is in a wonderful spot overlooking Bristol and the surrounding district. The cottage as shown in the five star rating we have given it could not be any better.

Cottage with panoramic views
Originally booked for New Year 2020/2021, cancelled due to covid, I finally got my week away this year and wow it was worth the wait. Booking was easy as was rebooking, George the owner made it so simple. Upon arrival the table was set for afternoon tea and cake with starters of tea, coffee, milk and cake provided. There was wine and glasses on the coffee table ready for a relaxing evening by the Christmas tree and log effect fire. The kitchenette had everything needed for making perfect meals from full english breakfast through to a full roast dinner. Nothing was forgotten although I prefer steamed veg to boiled, luckily I had a steamer with me (I travel a lot and a steamer is rarely provided). The Whirlpool Bath was a great way to relax after going out exploring the area. The cottage gives a feeling of remoteness with its panoramic views yet only half a mile off the beaten track and within reach of Bath, Bristol, Wells, Cheddar and Weston-super-Mare. Also there are plenty of walking opportunities with Kelston Round Hill offering 360° views and the Cotswold Way close by. After long or short days filled energetic or relaxed activities one needs a good night's sleep. Well I wasn't disappointed. One of the most comfortable beds I've slept in away from home, for me it was the right height from the floor, the right firmness, and the perfect tog rating for a good night's sleep. There was a couple of days that I didn't go anywhere, that was always my plan, so the views were really appreciated. Watching all the fireworks on New Year's Eve, from the verandah and from the window, across the wider Bristol area was fantastic, and with a couple of mild days it was great to sit out, take in the fresh air and the views, with coffee and cake. I called George for some advice one evening, he came round straight away, we had a good chat, very friendly. It was reassuring to know that he was there if needed yet not in your face all the time. A lovely family man for sure. I will certainly be returning to this cottage in the near future.

When we arrived the cottage was welcoming with the light on and wine at the ready. During our stay we found everything we needed had been supplied. Ideally suited and very comfortable for two. We were lucky with the weather and could make the most of the fabulous view. Very happy to recommend.

Nice cottage in a picturesque spot
We holidayed w/c 19th September 2020. Nice cottage (we stayed in 'Hare') with stunning views into the valley to the West. You can see the lights on the Severn Bridge at night. Very relaxing place to stay with enough amenities to allow for a decent self-catering experience. We mostly ate out in local pubs during our stay (apart from breakfast and the odd lunch) but the cottage features enough kit to allow you to have your meals indoors if you wish. We can highly recommend the food in the Old Crown Inn and the Upton Inn, the former being within a10-15 minute walk of the cottage and the latter about a 10 minute drive. We also ate in the Swan and the Jolly Sailor, and had very good food in all of them, with a wide choice of gluten free options in each. The cottage is ideally situated for walks in the area and is very close to the Round Hill, a very popular spot for walkers. Overall would highly recommend to others for a relaxing and very scenic holiday.

Great stay
We had a great tune at this property - we couldn’t believe how conveniently situated it was to Bath! The place has everything you need to feel at home. It’s clean, cosy and the little addition of soft and fruity wine and vienesse whirls was a great touch. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it. Thanks

Excellent cottage.
Really lovely cottage clean and well looked after, with fantastic views, and walks, friendly owners. Easy access to Bath, Bristol and various national trust properties. Tyntesfield was a truly stunning place to visit. Made even more special by the small owl that sat on the chimney each night.

Perfect cottage for two in a great location - highly recommend.
The Cottage itself is wonderful, perfect size for two and very well appointed. Kitchen was great and had everything you needed. Whirlpool bath was an added bonus. Plenty of storage in the bedroom. The whole place was very clean and it was lovely to arrive to a bottle of wine and some Viennese whirls! The views from the floor to ceiling windows all the way along the front of the Cottage are amazing and are even better when viewed sitting outside on the veranda. You can see as far as Bristol and Wales. The Cottage is ideally located for exploring Bath (10 mins drive away with very good bus service too) and Bristol (25 mins drive away) and of course the gorgeous countryside in between. We came for a relaxing break but ended up walking miles every day as there was so much to see, we particularly liked the walk up Kelston Round Hill which you can start from the Cottage and the Bath Skyline walk. There are some lovely pubs that do good food in the area, not least the nearest one to the Cottage - The Old Crown Inn. The Cottage is very easy to find and there’s plenty of space to park right outside. We saw the owner once during our stay, he is very unobtrusive but always reachable by mobile if needs be. Could not recommend more for a peaceful break in a wonderful part of the world!

Perfect peaceful home away from home
This property is so peaceful with incredible views across the countryside. It is blissful to lie in bed soaking in these views, or to take your breakfast onto the deck to listen to the sheep while you wake up. The place has everything you need with a small but wonderfully equipped kitchen, nice whirlpool bath and shower, and living space. We were very comfortable here. The location is perfect for exploring Bath and the surrounding areas. The village pub serves excellent food too. I highly recommend staying here.
