About this property

Foxglove, Helhoughton, Norfolk

Slow you down, as we say in Norfolk, and where better to do so than Foxglove. This peaceful, eco-friendly hideaway is in the depths of rural Norfolk in Houghton, surrounded by open countryside, and often gets overlooked by those dashing to the coast. If you're looking for a tranquil escape only a short drive to the coast, local pubs, attractions and nature reserves, then Foxglove is for you.

Foxglove is all about location. There is nowhere better than Houghton for enjoying peace and tranquillity, with no traffic noise, wildlife on your doorstep, dark skies for stargazing, empty country lanes for bike rides, and miles of local footpaths. In harmony with the beautiful nature that surrounds it, Foxglove is fitted with a biomass boiler and solar panel to help reduce its carbon footprint. With secure bike storage, you can leave the car behind. Completely private and semi-detached from neighbouring Hollyhock (sleeps 4), this charming single storey wooden cottage is surprisingly spacious for two people. It has a fabulous deck that boasts stunning, panoramic views, and makes a great place for al fresco dining on warmer days, or for sharing a sundown glass or two after a busy day out exploring. The cottage is bright, modern and fresh feeling, with terracotta floors, a well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable king-size bed. Dogs, and even horses, are welcome too. There is adequate parking for three cars to the front, and an electric vehicle charger available.

With Houghton Hall and deer park as your neighbour you will certainly feel rather special here. Rub shoulders with royalty as you cycle the empty country lanes to Sandringham Estate via Anmer, home to the Prince and Princess of Wales. The convenient market town of Fakenham has the best street market and auction rooms around, or maybe you fancy a day at the Fakenham Races. Head to Bircham Windmill with a fabulous café, shops and children's farm, sniff out the Norfolk Lavender fields, or walk the dog along the Peddars Way path.

Additional Information:
Two well behaved dogs are welcome (small additional charge). Horses by arrangement.
All bedding provided is synthetic.
There is a cot and high chair available on request.

The most relaxing holiday

Foxglove provided the most relaxing holiday for both us and our dogs had a brilliant time. Beautiful walks from the front door through the countryside. A lovely setting. The cottage has a very generous wooden deck with seating. Lovely to watch the sun set in such glorious scenery. Only downside - and it really is the only one - tiny bath towels and only one hand towel between us. Everything else first class.

Foxglove

As the property is located in the depths of the countryside. A pint of milk could have been helpful for anyone not reading the small print in Norfolk Hideaways literature. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay thank you!

Foxhlglove, Houghton

A lovely well- appointed cottage. Clean and tidy with everything you would need. The view from the decking across the countryside was fantastic and we enjoyed all of the owners animals too! It is in a very peaceful spot with no light pollution at nighttime. The bathroom needs a special mention as it’s was of a good size, warm and had a superb shower. The only things I would change are the sofa as is was quite soft and low and hard to get up from. The kitchen also lacked oven gloves and the extractor fan needs a deep clean.

Lovely place to stay

With beautiful views, ducks, horses, chickens, a goose, fairly central so easy to get to most places, field walks were fabulous. Would defiantly come.

What bliss.. No traffic noise.... No nearby housing... Just fresh air and countryside. Footpaths over the fields near the cottage were wide and mown which was much appreciated. The little cottage was perfect except for the sofa and chair were very low and a struggle to get out of!! Running around the quiet lanes was much enjoyed. Would love to have stayed longer.

Lovely weeks break at Foxglove

Super week at the Foxglove, very clean, lovely views over the fields from the patio at the back of the property. Plenty of space for the two of us, really nice area to explore, Sandringham, the North coast of Norfolk, some lovely villages all within easy reach. Wouldn't hesitate to go back again at some point in the future.

great for a break from home and visiting North Norfolk

A lovely little traditional timber cottage, tucked away. Very quiet and peaceful - for 2 people in 1 double bedroom, large living room, large kitchen and large bathroom. The furniture - for two people - in the large living room looks a little lost , and maybe that could be improved upon. A large private deck at the back overlooks fields, trees , some poultry and horses - lovely for a nice al-fresco drink. Once you get used to the narrow lanes around the property, which are generally very quiet, all the sights of interest are within easy reach - beaches, little villages and market towns, pubs, nature reserves, and historic places etc

Amazing, beautiful place.

Perfect! Beautiful remote setting. Well equipped. So peaceful and quiet. But not too far from local shops and pubs. A perfect location for star gazing as its not spoilt by electric light. The cottage was clean and well presented. The pint of milk waiting for us was a nice touch (especially as we forgot to bring ours ) will definately come again. There is so much more to see and do in Norfolk, we needed more time. See you next year!

A Comfortable Little House

The house was very comfortable with all you need in kitchen, the bathroom was lovely, the bed was very comfortable. The laundry was very handy. The area is very quiet. We enjoy bird watching, the RSPB sites Titchwell and Snettisham are not far away, also Cley Marsh Reserve. Marston Quay is good to go on a seal trip. There are plenty of supermarkets in Fakenham, Holt and Kings Lynn. All in all a good area to visit.

Our stay at foxgloves

Whilst the location was peaceful and the cottage well constructed, the furnishings, sadly, for comfort left a lot to be desired.
