Perfect location, enjoyed the outdoor shower but the one inside was very tight and having to bring your own linens and towels is a bit of a hassle. Overall, we would stay here again!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was in the perfect spot for us. We could hop on our bikes, turn right on Broadway, and get to the beach or the mall or the point in easy time.
I also liked the back porch and outdoor shower.
We enjoyed our weekend at the house. The shower is small, very small, but it’s not a deal breaker. House was clean and cozy. We’ve stayed here twice now and would absolutely stay again.
Great spot close to everything but not in the thick of it
Elizabeth was a WONDERFUL host. I had a million questions about Cape May and she helped answer them all! House was the perfect size for our family and served as a great place to base out of for our vacation. It is super close to downtown and beaches, but far enough away so that you don’t have to deal with crowds (unless you choose to). If and when we go back, we’d love to stay again!
This property reminded us of the homes we were raised in. We absolutely loved this home. A very charming house. It was perfect for us to have a relaxing trip. The furniture is very clean and comfortable. The inside shower was very small and may give larger people an issue but there is an outdoor shower thats much larger. My now 13 year old loved the outdoor shower. The location is very conveniently located down the road from a few local markets. The beach is only a 5 min drive away. The owner was very kind and gave us clear instruction.
What a cozy, comfortable place to stay. Great location, clean, outdoor shower was by far my favorite feature. We will keep this in mind for future visits.
It's basic, but this place has all the essentials for a great price and quiet location.

Vacation stay
When I got there I noticed a note on the fridge giving cleaning details for us to clean, never have I stayed at a place asking to cleaning toilet and shower floor, the shower was so small I felt like I was in a time capsule, the oven was filthy and didn't work, however I was able to reach the owner , but the place was very dated. Thank for Wi-Fi if not we could not watch shows on our phones because there's no channels. I love the outside shower the only shower that was roomy.
The house was nice, clean, and everything was well kept and organized. The things I would change are the stove because the oven two burners didn’t work and the values on the knobs were gone. The door for the bathroom doesn’t lock and the bathroom and shower were very small and uncomfortable. I recommend a bathroom renovation.

Not as described
1. No bathtub - just tiny shower stall.
2. Locks do not work (including bathroom).
3. Windows do not close.
Beware! This house has significant mold issues, which I discovered upon arrival. Despite notifying the host immediately, I received no response. The smell was unbearable, especially for someone with breathing problems like myself. My husband and I had to relocate to a hotel for our own health and safety. Unfortunately, other family members couldn't afford to leave and had to endure the conditions.
After 3 days of no contact, I reached out to VRBO for assistance. They eventually connected with the host, who admitted to inputting the wrong contact info. By then, it was too late to remedy the situation effectively.
The host did apologize and promised a full refund, but obtaining it proved to be other challenge upon returning home. VRBO listed the cancellation under "house rules violations" which was inaccurate and frustrating.
Adding insult to injury, the host reacted defensively and sent me a lengthy, hurtful message after I expressed my dissatisfaction. Telling me how rude and disrespectful, I'm am. She told me that I can't handle stress and she feels sorry for any other places that would have to deal with me. This exchange was deeply disappointing and added unnecessary stress to an already very difficult situation.
I appreciate VRBO eventually rectifying the refund issue, but the overall experience has left me wary of future house rentals. Moving forward, I'll likely opt for hotels, where I feel more confident about the cleanliness and customer service.
Great place to crash for a few nights while birding
Overall I do not regret renting this property and I think it was priced very appropriately. I was in town with a bunch of friends on a birding trip and the house served its purpose.
There were a few pros and cons.
Pros:
- Elizabeth is a very sweet host and I would rent from her again.
- The stove has been replaced recently and is now brand new
- The house is in prime location for birding in Cape May
- We were able to fit a Honda Pilot and two compact cars in the driveway by parking them bumper to bumper with the front car's wheels on the front edge of the driveway (but not in the grass)
- The beds are comfortable and the neighbors are quiet.
Cons:
- The bathroom door lock needs to be fixed. If you lock it and then someone turns it from the outside it unlocks. This was tricky when staying with unrelated people.
- There is only one key and no keypad entry.
- You can only lock the side door deadbolt from the inside with a key and the bottom lock is a little wonky and difficult to get locked.
- The inside shower is TINY, but water pressure is fine. The outside shower is a good size, but you must walk around the house to get to it (no back door, only a side door)
- Linens are not provided. This is fine, but caused one couple to have to purchase a king sized sheet set just for this trip because they don't have a king sized mattress at home.
- Toilet paper was provided, but there were no extra rolls (which we didn't know until we ran out).
We had a lovely stay! We have family at the Depot next door and this was a short walk to the campground. The house had everything we needed, paper products, space for everyone, an excellent backyard and grill, and reliable wifi so I could work from home. Communication with the owner was quick, courteous and helpful. I definitely recommend!
We had a wonderful stay at Eileen’s property. There was onsite parking, easy checkin and the house was equipped with everything we needed. The home is very conveniently located to the beach and mall area within minutes by car. Others have noted that the shower is small, but it is more than manageable. Our grandchildren are 7 and 5 and can shower independently. I highly recommend Eileen’s place and would stay there again if I’m in the area.
We made a last-minute booking and the owner was very prompt with accepting it & communicating. This quaint cottage is very conveniently located to activities in the Cape May area. The home is well stocked with essentials and has a TV and some board games for any rainy days. The kitchen has a sizeable fridge, electric stove, toaster oven & coffee makers. There were a few minor condition issues & some minor repairs in progress at the time of our stay but the property is well kept overall. The leather furniture in the living room was very comfortable and the queen bed was firm. Just be aware that the indoor shower is a smaller space. We did not end up using the back deck, but it is a nice area with a table/chairs & grill. As first-time visitors to Cape May, this location suited our preference for a quieter private lodging. Our favorite discovery was the natural beauty of nearby Higbee Beach, which can be reached relatively quickly & easily by car or bike. We enjoyed Cape May and would definitely consider staying at this location again.
We were in town for a birding festival... house was perfectly located to get from park to park. We packed our own sheets, towels, kitchen essentials (coffee, sugar, olive oil, etc) and took advantage of the gas grill and full-size kitchen (no dishwasher but we had no problems hand washing our plates!). Locks on the door could be better but all in all, we had a fabulous visit! Easy to communicate with the owner. too!
We had a great time staying here! The kids loved the big backyard and showering outside. The kitchen was well stocked with basic necessary cooking items. The house is on a quiet street, only a short drive from the beach and other activities. The neighbors were very friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
My husband and our two small children stayed for a week. The house was perfect for us! Not walking distance for us to the beach but a very easy, short drive. We liked the house being slightly removed from the main hustle and bustle. Driving to anything was very convenient. The house was well stocked with a variety of supplies. Owner was great leading up to the trip with tips and suggestions. We would stay again!
No issues, owner communicated everything and was very welcoming. Would rent again!

My family and I purchased this property 23 years ago when our son was a year old. We fell in love with the quaint ranch located only one mile form the beach on a quiet road with a farm down the street and great neighbors next door. My daughter joined our family two years later and we all spent the summer in Cape May enjoying the beaches and making great friends. Our children have made year round connections with local friends and I have become friends with year round local families. We love the beaches, restaurants and have created lasting memories. We live in Lambertville NJ a lovely river town, Cape May has reminded us of our home town with its antique shops and local fine dining.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Cape May on our first visit in 1990 and decided we would want to return many times over, we began looking for homes the following year and found Stimpson Lane, I knew it was the house for us immediately, although we did look at many other properties.
What makes this property unique
The property has a large private backyard and the view from the living room looks out upon a field across the street. It is a residential neighborhood with a very rural feel to it. The house is cozy and feels like home to me. I love reading in the living room in the early morning and I love sitting on the back deck with my morning coffee.
