Serene, Peaceful and Relaxing Setting....10 minute drive from the beach
Our home is located on 5.5 acres of woodlands surrounded by hundreds of acres of protected forest, yet only minutes away from Mattapoisett Harbor and the beaches on Buzzards Bay. No dealing with Cape Cod traffic and congestion! Enjoy wind or kite surfing at Ned's Point where the wind is always up. Take a swim and picnic while enjoying the view of Falmouth and the Elizabeth Islands across Buzzards Bay . Bring your boat and rent a mooring from the Mattapoisett Boatyard with all of Buzzards Bay there for you to explore! Just sixty minutes from Boston, thirty-five minutes from Providence, and one hour from Cape Cod, Mattapoisett is a waterfront gem! You will wake up every morning to the songs of the various birds that make their home here. Sit in the solarium off the kitchen and watch the birds fly up to the feeders as you relax with a good book! At any time you may see the wild turkeys cruise through the yard on their daily search for bugs. If it gets too hot on the decks you can move to the screen porch off of the back patio where you will feel a light breeze and enjoy another beautiful view of the forest. The covered porch overlooking the yard and gardens is another shaded area to enjoy. In the evening you can relax in front of the fire pit located where the lawn meets the back woods. You will find an ample supply of dry wood ready to go. Pick fresh organic vegetables from our expansive garden for your daily meals. Add them to something you cook up on our Weber Grille located on the patio by the screen porch. After your meal you can take a walk or ride a bike down to Branch Brook or a little further to the Mattapoisett River. You can also ride bikes into Mattapoisett Village on back roads. The quaint, historic village is very charming. Many whaleboats were built and launched from Shipyard Park in the early 1800s. Our house is post and beam with many antiques and it has woodland views from every window. The house has open construction on the first floor so the living room, kitchen and solarium all flow together. There is one bedroom and full bath on the first floor and two bedrooms and full bath with separate tub and shower on the second floor. The washer and dryer are in the basement which is finished and has plenty of comfortable seating. Play a game of Foosball or chess or checkers on the unique giant chess and checker table with large chess and checker pieces. The west side of the house has two decks and a covered porch. The lower deck is connected to a brick walkway that leads to the patios and screen porch. The front of the house faces the woods, forming a privacy barrier from the road. Our house is suitable for up to six people who are interested in the solitude of the woods but also enjoy saltwater activities. A beach pass for all of Mattapoisett Beaches and the town wharf is available for you! July is a busy, fun filled month in Mattapoisett. This home was exceptionally clean and homey. It was the perfect house for a small family reunion. The garden and flowers added so much to the outdoor ambiance. Our granddaughters loved the birds where the different varieties flocked to the feeders. And a friendly deer made an early morning appearance several mornings to everyone's delight. We would certainly return.
Fellow Travelers,
If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet, relaxing place to stay in eastern Massachusetts, look no further. This amazing 5 acre property was exactly what we needed. With beautiful gardens surrounding all outdoor spaces throughout the property, we literally only spent time indoors to cook and sleep. Ample room to cook and feed a large family.
The owners take great care to ensure the property is in excellent condition before you arrive. Cleanliness was an A+! Responsiveness and kindness of the owners - Exceptional!
After renting homes throughout the eastern US on VRBO, this was by far our best experience. We left grateful the owners were willing to share their retreat.
We enjoyed our stay at Wolf Island. Mary and Ray were wonderful hosts and their home was well stocked with everything we could need. We loved having lazy mornings enjoying breakfast as we watched the hummingbirds. Kids enjoyed the big open front lawn to play soccer and baseball in the evenings. Short drive to town beach, which is awesome for kids with the lifeguards and calm water. Overall the trip was terrific!
My daughter and her family live in Fairhaven (15min away) and my son lives in Boston. We found this wonderful home set out in a wooded area to have loads of room to stretch out and enjoy family time. Loved watching and photographing the birds in the
feeders along with having fresh veggies and herbs from the garden on hand. A couple nights we did s’mores over a bonfire! Beaches and restaurants are close by, we even got to the Cape a couple times plus we had a lovely kitchen area where we could cook/grill for everyone. I’d say the only drawback was not having the a/c in the main living area during a two day heat wave in August while we were there! (No breeze)The bedrooms do have a/c and we slept well. We recommend this to all nature lovers and families.
We had a wonderful stay at Mary’s home. Everything was in clean and perfect conduction for our arrival. We loved the hammock and outdoor shower. There’s no AC in the non-bedroom rooms so just be aware, but sleeping is comfortable!
A beautiful and tranquil home in nature with love in every corner
Spending time here was truly a pleasure. The thoughtful details were endless and we found ourselves wanting to simply spend time on the property more than anything else. The outdoor shower, countless outdoor and indoor sitting areas, croquet set, and fresh vegetables and herbs from the beautiful, picturesque garden made the experience truly special. The property surrounding the house was expansive, providing complete privacy from any neighbors and everything was green and blossoming when we came at the end of August. We visited with the whole family and everyone from ages 8 to 70 had a blast. We were so presently surprised, photos truly don't do this place justice. Our hosts, Mary and Ray, were kind, quick to respond, and extremely helpful with finding the best local sites including the nearby beaches and restaurants, and answering any other questions we had. Thank you for everything, we can't wait to be back!
Absolutely perfect get away in a gorgeous home - everything about our stay was a pleasure. Mary is easy to communicate with- the house is even better than the photos - the setting is spectacular with a gorgeous and abundant garden-we enjoyed just plucked tomatoes and basil fresh off the vine. In these stressful timed this was a week in a peaceful paradise. How can I forget to mention the birds- we were greeted by humming birds, cardinals and a multitude of pretty birds on a a daily basis while relaxing in any one of the many decks. The outdoor shower was a real treat too. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your home with my family.
Amazing, and serene property. Beautiful New England style home in a great location. Mary is the best and extremely helpful. Would love to stay again.

Lovely holiday
We loved our stay in this beautiful house. It is full of character, quiet, well-equipped and extremely comfortable. The garden is fantastic and we enjoyed games of boules and croquet, as well as watching the birds feed (humming birds too!) and everything growing in the vegetable garden. The town of Mattapoisset has plenty to offer. We visited the town beach several times for swimming and found various nice places to eat locally. For us, this was also an ideal base to explore a bit further - Boston on the commuter train from Lakeville and over to Cape Cod. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, who could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Overall a really lovely place to spend a holiday!

About the host
Hosted by marykcabral@gmail.com
Mary and I are both retired teachers. We built our Post and Beam house ourselves using the trees from the land. We raised our 4 children here and now wish to share our piece of Paradise with others who appreciate peace and the beauty of nature in both the woods and the ocean!
Why they chose this property
Our home is surrounded by forest yet only 7 minutes by car or 20 by bike from the Harbor and beaches of Mattapoisett Village. We are a quick commute (60) minutes from Boston, Providence, Cape Cod and Plymouth. When you return to the house from an enjoyable day touring the sights or beaching you can relax and listen to the wind in the trees!
What makes this property unique
Quiet woodland setting with just the sound of the wind in the trees! No Cape Cod crowds or traffic to deal with. We are 60 minutes from Boston and 35 minutes from Providence or Plymouth, no need to deal with Cape traffic and crowds.. Bring your boat and rent a mooring from the Mattapoisett Boatyard. Enjoy the bounty of our organic garden when you are staying here! If you wind or kite surf on Ned's Point the wind is always up and the grass provides a great area to open rig your sails. Ned's Point also has picnic tables, bathrooms and an outside shower for your use.
