About this property
Countryside retreat in the heart of Andalusia
Cortijo Syrona is a 2 ensuite bedroomed apartment in a one level Spanish 'style' property, in nearly four acres of almond and olive fields. The bedrooms are a double and a Superkingsize double which can be converted to two singles. They each have their own private terrace which joins the main courtyard with total privacy and is not overlooked. It gets the sunrise and sunset with birdsong all day, and sometimes night! Although the water is drinkable, we choose to use bottled which will be provided. There is a kitchenette with washing machine in the living room and an outside kitchen with gas BBQ by the pool area. The views f resemble Costa Rica. There are few houses, just some olive huts. The beeeaters gather to roost around the house every evening, stunning. You often see a pair of golden eagles above, and the sheep herder calling out with the bells ringing on the sheep/goats, come directly past the house.
It is situated in the natural park around the village of Guaro and Monda. Marbella is less than 30 minutes away. The airport about 40mins. From here it is easy to see most of the the best attractions Andalucia has to offer. Ronda, Córdoba, Gibraltar, Marbella, Malaga. El Choro lakes and the famous Camino del Rey walk. The neighbouring villages of Tolox, Alozaina, Casarabonela, are equally pretty 'pueblo blancos'. Although only a 20 minute walk from the village, the house is set in the middle of the most amazing mountainous countryside. There are marked walks directly from the house. It is on a fairly well kept track, and we can drive our weekend sports car up and down it. Any further past the house though, would be best done in a 4X4 or,as we have done, a decent hire car! Our local shopping town is Coín,20 mins away. It has 4 large supermarkets and La Trocha shopping centre, for clothes, sport facilities, cinema etc. It is one of the oldest farming towns in the region, surrounded by many enthusiastic Spanish horse owners/breeders who converge on the well known horse ferias held in the town. You quite often see a beautiful horse or mule cart going through the streets, whatever the traffic!
Every month comes another explosion of colour, I've never seen such a display of wild flowers. Only the hottest months, July and August sees a gradual closing down, rather like an English Winter, as everything is burnt up! Despite this, the varying tones of soil on the hills and the permanent evergreen firs still give a colourful display.
